Style: American Stout
Alcohol by volume (ABV): not listed
Availability: Year-round
Notes / Commercial Description:
This name comes from the notorious red light district of some 100 years ago in which Front Street Brewery is located. An extra dark, almost black bottom brew, smooth with a slight coffee flavor, achieved by the use of highly roasted barley and black malts. This beer is known as the espresso of beers. Bucktown soon becomes the favorite of the adventuresome.

Appearance: Dark dark brown, minimal head, but actually leaves a thin but nice lacing.
Smell: Fresh roasted coffee, with a little bit of dark chocolate.
Taste: Fresh brewed coffee, mild/slightly sweet roasted grains, and just a hint of chocolate.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, substantial but still nicely drinkable.
Drinkability: Pretty nice.
Conclusion: I was fairly impressed with this offering. It offers nice coffee and chocolate flavors/aromas with a nice mouthfeel and good drinkability. Front street has a winner here!

Had a growler of the Bucktown Stout brought to Canada for me.
A smooth stout, that drinks well. Decent abv, but, not overpowering.
If I ever make it down to Davenport, I'd gladly drink a pint.

This beer is opaque black in color with no head. The lacing, however, is nice and tan. The aroma is of roasted malt with a hint of caramel. The taste is rather lacking. It's got the classic raosted malt flavor, but is slightly watery. The mouthfeel is a bit too thin for what I like in a stout. Overall, this beer is okay, but whould have been better if the flavors that were there were magified.

Clear black with ruby highlights without being backlit. Modest tan head fades to film and leaves ample lacing. I notice some activity, though it's tough to see much do to the color.
SMELL light roast, oatmeal (I think), not much else.
TASTE again light roast but this time mixed with a modest hop bitterness that is more pronounced than it would be if the malt bill weren't so slim. Quite dry, with just a faint whisper of malty sweetness to be found. A bit out of balance on the dry/bitter side, which could probably be remedied quite favorably with a bit more malt.
FEEL a bit of a fizzy bite, thin side of medium body, fairly benign but with a clean finish.
OVERALL this is not a bad beer, but like the wheat, it is not that good either. It is clean, with no off flavors, such as I encountered on my previous visit to this establishment. This beer has potential, with some tweaks, to be much more interesting. But it drinks fine as it is, and could be a gentle gateway to the style for someone just experimenting. I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

From notes:
The color is dark black with a nice brownish head. The nose is a great chocolate and malt mix very nice. The nose makes me just want to skip writing and start drinking. The flavor is a nice roasted malt flavor that is slightly on the dry side which goes well with the style and flavors. It's a nice stout overall and probably the best thing from this brewery.

a fairly generic stout, pouring a flat dark brown color into a pint glass. looks a little lifeless, but the nose is alright, with english malt, some caramel notes, a lot of roast and smoke, and an earthy sort of appeal. flavor is pretty dull to me, a little on the sweet side, but the malt profile just isnt as big and round as i like in a stout, i dont pick up hardly any coffee or chocolate notes, and the whole thing just seems a little thin. still, its not offputting at all, nothing offensive or horribly wrong here, just not a real exciting or inspired stout. mouthfeel continues the trend. its just too light in body, runny almost, and the carbonation is well short of where it needs to be. a sugary finish confirms this is a beer i wont order again. however, the other offerings at front street brewery were all pretty good, so dont let this one turn you off from visiting the place.
