Style: Doppelbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This world famous bock from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain is not meant to be rushed, but savoured slowly. As solid as a rock, Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel presides over the evening meal with a colour reminiscent of dark copper with nuances of fiery red. Its clear gleaming look harmonises with its firm, fine pored head.

Also the aroma delights the connoisseur: soft roasted accents and a nuance of dried fruit carrying a vein of caramel. This Doppelbock Dunkel from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain presents a pleasant effervescence. And then there’s the unmistakable flavour: mouthcoating and velvety, strong and yet pleasantly malty – a powerful, robust body. At the same time, it develops an easily recognisable sweetness, embraced in roasted cocoa and a light, bitter hoppiness.

Concluding with a powerful punch, this Doppelbock departs with a lingering aftertaste of quality plain chocolate. A strong Doppelbock that embodies the centuries old Benedictine brewing tradition, sip by delicious sip.

Appearance - The beer poured a murky brown color with a slight white head.

Smell - The sweet malts of a doppelbock resemble freshly baked dark bread.

Taste - There are big sweet chewy mulch here. Dark fruit, caramel, perhaps a hint of cola, then a slightly dry sweetness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - This thickness allows this to linger nicely.

Overall - this is a top-of-the-line doppelbock.

Always up for a Doppelbock, especially this time of year.

Pours jet black with hues of brown. Smells of caramel and black licorice with a little toasted grain. Tastes of plum, caramel, and chocolate with pine in the finish. Has a roasty enveloping for good measure. Medium, smooth and robust.

There's no going wrong here.

Pours a dark amber/brown color with a decent sized tan head, fades quickly and leaves no lacing on the glass or a cap.

Smell has a huge toffee and caramel aroma, quite earthy as well.

Taste starts out with the toffee flavor and lasts pretty much throughout, hints of chocolate dance around in the mouth, still very earthy, quite viscous, soft carbonation with a velvety feel.

This was one of my whales for a long time, I'm quite glad this Doppelbock finally made its way stateside.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Beautiful dark brown with a wonderful thick fluffy beige head and nice lacing. Smoky, earthy smell, very fragrant. Bold taste: smoke, chocolate, dark toaste. Sweet and malty with just a hint of bitterness. Great beer!

Appearance - Pours clear and dark chestnut brown in color. Kakhi, finger width head that dissipates fairly quickly, leaving behind a thin, mostly barren surface and a thin ring of suds around the edge. Not much for lacing aside from a few spots here and there.

Smell - Solid toffee notes with a touch of caramel, earthiness and some dark fruitiness.

Taste - Follows the nose. A punchy combo of toffee and caramel, off-set by fruity notes of fig and lesser raisin. Light, earthy hops and a touch of cocao in the finish, off-setting much of the sweetness and leaving a fairly balanced finish, though a trace of fruity tartness lingers well afterward.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low carbonation to moderate carbonation. Slick, smooth texture makes this an easy drinker with a lightly dry finish.

Overall - It's no Celebrator, but this is a fantastic doppel in it's own right. Strong flavor that's complimented by a smooth, drinkable quality and a well-rounded finish. If you see this, do not pass it up.

Pours a slightly reddish-brown, with a one-finger, white head that dissapates quickly. A little carbonation.
Smells of big, carmel malt.
Taste is of sweet malt. Dried fruit with a nice roasted finish. A hint of other fruits such as banana. Some light hop backing. A slight licorice as well. Slight chocolate in finish.
Velvety smooth finish makes this feel awesome. Nice warming from the alcohol.
I will get this one again!
