Notes / Commercial Description:
This world famous bock from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain is not meant to be rushed, but savoured slowly. As solid as a rock, Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel presides over the evening meal with a colour reminiscent of dark copper with nuances of fiery red. Its clear gleaming look harmonises with its firm, fine pored head.

Also the aroma delights the connoisseur: soft roasted accents and a nuance of dried fruit carrying a vein of caramel. This Doppelbock Dunkel from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain presents a pleasant effervescence. And then there’s the unmistakable flavour: mouthcoating and velvety, strong and yet pleasantly malty – a powerful, robust body. At the same time, it develops an easily recognisable sweetness, embraced in roasted cocoa and a light, bitter hoppiness.

Concluding with a powerful punch, this Doppelbock departs with a lingering aftertaste of quality plain chocolate. A strong Doppelbock that embodies the centuries old Benedictine brewing tradition, sip by delicious sip.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Beautiful dark brown with a wonderful thick fluffy beige head and nice lacing. Smoky, earthy smell, very fragrant. Bold taste: smoke, chocolate, dark toaste. Sweet and malty with just a hint of bitterness. Great beer!

Appearance - Pours clear and dark chestnut brown in color. Kakhi, finger width head that dissipates fairly quickly, leaving behind a thin, mostly barren surface and a thin ring of suds around the edge. Not much for lacing aside from a few spots here and there.

Smell - Solid toffee notes with a touch of caramel, earthiness and some dark fruitiness.

Taste - Follows the nose. A punchy combo of toffee and caramel, off-set by fruity notes of fig and lesser raisin. Light, earthy hops and a touch of cocao in the finish, off-setting much of the sweetness and leaving a fairly balanced finish, though a trace of fruity tartness lingers well afterward.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low carbonation to moderate carbonation. Slick, smooth texture makes this an easy drinker with a lightly dry finish.

Overall - It's no Celebrator, but this is a fantastic doppel in it's own right. Strong flavor that's complimented by a smooth, drinkable quality and a well-rounded finish. If you see this, do not pass it up.

Pours a slightly reddish-brown, with a one-finger, white head that dissapates quickly. A little carbonation.
Smells of big, carmel malt.
Taste is of sweet malt. Dried fruit with a nice roasted finish. A hint of other fruits such as banana. Some light hop backing. A slight licorice as well. Slight chocolate in finish.
Velvety smooth finish makes this feel awesome. Nice warming from the alcohol.
I will get this one again!

great price ($3.99) for such an awesome brew! cola-looking but severely lacking in carbonation. i blame shelf age for this as the place i purchased it is notorious for having old beer and the european stuff sits longer than the american stuff. but even with the lack of carbonation this has a very good flavor. a little sweet as most dopples are and a dry finish. dark(er) fruits and the typical great german flavors.....

500ml bottle purchased from Lifesource Natural Grocers in Salem Oregon $3.99 Dark amber/ brown colored body with a nice sized thick and frothy cream colored head. Unlike most dopplebocks the aroma of this is mainly wheat, vanilla and hazelnuts. Nice Taste similar to the aroma but more of the dark fruit and over ripe bananas , raisins and a bit of licorice appear..many flavors as it heats. Delicious smooth and silky mouth feel. An excellent traditional dopplebock.

Beautiful coppery amber brew with big head in the buxom Weissbier glass. Very sudsy with clouds of carbonation in the mouth in the best German style. Sweet and malty. Tangy edge with a musty, malty aroma.

This tastes more like an English Old Ale to me, with the murky malt and the oxidized note. Some of the usual wheat esters but more burnt clove and lacks the banana. The odd bitterness with the old spice (not the aftershave) aftertaste is not what I like in the Doppelbock, but apparently it's authentic. Date stamp is "L 0906" which would make it not quite four months old. From the 500 ml bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle, which has a whole range from this brewer.
