This dark Weissbier retains its aromatic character thanks to the select choice of Hallertau aroma hops and highest quality Bavarian wheat and dark barley malts.

Its characteristic, distinctive maroon colour is a feast for the eyes. Then there’s the opalescence and fine structure of the yeast turbidity. The perfect complement is provided by the very creamy, fine pored head. This dark Weissbier from the Holy Mountain will delight connoisseurs with a harmonious interplay of fruity odours, above all ripe bananas and pineapple, with undertones of caramel and cocoa.

Andechser Weissbier Dunkel teases the tongue with a delicate tanginess carried by a round, soft body. A light caramel sweetness harmonises well with the fine hoppy bitterness. It concludes on a soft and refreshing note.

A - Beautiful pure white head, completely opaque brown body.
S - Light pastry and brown sugar aromas
T - Very light malt, tired bitterness
MF - Mild carbonation, silky yet slightly acidic(?)
D - A beer this plain from Andechs? A big surprise for me. I had a bottle fo this and was underwhelmed, so I kept my notes, waited a couple days and rereviewed with consistent notes.

On tap at Apothecary Ale House in Morgantown WV

Pumpernickel, raisin, cocoa, deep cherry.

Very little lacing with a thin head.

Not much depth, light caramel makes this an easy drinking(not heavy offering).

Poured from 50cl bottle, hazy brown creamy head. Considering the calibre of the brewery, I was slightly disappointed by the complexity on both nose and taste given the high bar set by Andechs. A little diluted, missing some classic yeast flavour although still a very decent dunkel.

Its a decent dunkle but a bit too fruity/banana for me. This one clearly stands out as European product with thst flavoring. A dunkle fan in Fall or Winter but I prefer American craft take on this genre.

e0,5l bottle with a label date of 14.09.2023
A bit disappointed in this one, based on the brewery, even though it’s one of my least favorite styles. On the subtle side of most German wheat beers, with a gentle hint of the usual aromas and flavors. Just a bit watery and not the typical Andechs consistency.

500 ml bottle poured into a tumbler pint glass.

L: Clear brown, three finger khaki head, mousse-like foam has good retention, leaves some lace.
S: Malty, yeast, banana bread-like.
T: Malty, medium sweetness, drys some at finish, dark bread, wheat, banana, clove, spicy hops, aftertaste is malty and mildly sweet.
F: Light-medium body, medium carbonation, leans soft, a little frothy, a bit chewy.
O: Easy drinking, good flavor, one of the better wheat beers I’ve had.

Bottle code L0201, bottled 1/20/21

So this is obviously very old for this bottle. But when I saw it at Binnys on my recent trip to Chicago I just had to grab it anyways, as it’s another classic Dunkelweizen I’ve yet to try. So let’s crack this old lad open and see what it’s all about

Pours a slightly cloudy dark amber with 2 fingers of creamy off white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing

It doesn’t necessarily smell like it’s old, there’s still a nice snap to hold up the sweetness. I’m picking up on aromas of overripe banana, pumpernickel toast, caramelized sugar, honey, raisin, and light clove

The taste shows its age quite a bit more but it’s still enjoyable. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting earthy wheat, overripe banana, sweet caramel, dark bread, black tea, and light orange zest. The swallow brings notes of earthy wheat, banana bread, toasted grain, burnt caramel, sweet honey, orange zest, and light vanilla

A light body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a snappy beer. Finishes mostly dry and drinks ridiculously easy

I have to give this one the benefit of the doubt because of its age. I’d love to try it fresher one day

Well... malt beer and ripe meat of the bone always go well together. Had it at Stammtisch in Portland, Or. Not my first choice of dunkel Weiss, but definitely a good beer.

Picked up a 500 ml bottle from the BlueDoor Bottleshop in Hendersonville 9-1-22 for $4.75. Bottled 3-25-21; consumed 11-13-22.

Beer poured light brown with a perfect head that is still nice after 15 minutes.

Nose is light roast with a touch of banana.

Taste is a light to medium roasted malt base. Yeast imparts notes of banana. Finishes with a touch of sweetness but the roast wins in the end.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and finishes pretty soft.

Overall a solid beer, glad to have tried.

L: Absolutely massive head
S: Sweet and spice. Caramel, honey, roasty malt, cloves, fruit esters, banana
T: Follows the nose. Roasted malt builds the body, plenty of caramel and bread, then cloves, banana, a tinge of hops, a bit of yeast on the finish
F: Smooth and creamy and soft
O: A great beer, I haven’t tried this style until now, and it’s a great combination of elements I’m used to in other styles.
