Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Since Saint Joseph’s Day on 19 March 1993, Andechs Weissbier Hell has found many new friends. Untreated and bottled in its natural state of yeasty turbidity, this is a top fermented beer for the epicure.

Its light honey colour makes it an immediate eyecatcher. Then there’s the opalescence and fine structure of the yeast turbidity. At the same time, the creamy, fine pored head invites you to get to know this light Weissbier from the Holy Mountain. You’ll need two takes to enjoy the aromas to the full.

First, distinctive fruity aromas like banana and honeydew melon come to the fore, followed by fine cloves. Andechser Weissbier Hell is a very tangy, refreshing treat with the conviction of a full, soft body. It concludes on a finely balanced interplay of light sweet honey and a delicate acidity with undertones of bitter hoppiness that quickly subside into a harmonious aftertaste.

A Weissbier that embodies a slice of the Andechs lifestyle: finely yeasty, tangy, and sparkling, it refreshes and renews the thirst for more

this is hands down the best hefe i have ever had. i know people rant and rave about their dopplebock, but this is next level for me, truly incredible. you think you know a hefe or something, think youve had every possible deviation and variation and alteration that exists on it, and frankly a lot of them get pretty samey, but this is the king of the heap. its appropriately cloudy, goldenrod colored, with several inches of muted grayish white foam on top. great retention. it smells rustic and old, very very traditional, with a yeasty banana cream complexion, and raw wheat as its base. its a simple equation, but its done expertly well here, and one sip confirms that this yeast is something special. silky rich banana notes and earthy pale malted wheat work wonders together, lasting forever, and hinting at candied lemon rind, black pepper, and something a little more herbal. its got that pleasant old dusty german thing going on, but it also feels really fresh to me. carbonation is intense, and there is an awesome creaminess and weight to the feel. im not sure how you can make a hefe any better than this one, and the fact that its not rare, and is super super cheap makes it that much better. german brewers are going to start getting a lot more of my attention. cant say enough about this one.

Man, I thought Weihenstephan was pretty much the only go to for premium German beer in the US - but move over becomes here comes Andechs! Like finding out that Gigi Hadid has a just as hot sister, this was a fine surprise. Clean and cloudy like a Bavarian thunderstorm, this one is beautiful. Light with all those familiar Hefeweizen flavors (minus the clove, which Raul doesn’t mind st all!) This one is not to be missed!

An extremely well done hefeweizen that is pretty much everything I want in a hefe.

Great aroma...banana, lemons...cloves...

Taste leans a little more towards the lemons and cloves but light banana evident..

Body is crisp, light, and easy to drink. Just finished a two hour bike ride and this is the perfect nourishing beverage I needed. Could drink more than a few of these in a sitting.

500ml bottle - $3.48 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours out a lightly hazed, straw-hued body with a small-sized, brief, white head.

Smell: Wheat with a thin veneer of sweet-scented honey, citrus and light banana, phenolic spicy elements.

Taste: Crisped wheat, moderately sweet cereal quality chased with a spritz of clean, clear lemon juice. Gentle banana accent, a little bubblegum, one scant drop of vanilla. The hops remain rather subtle, imparting only a light bitterness. All flavors converge on the lightly sweetish, rather crisp finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: Lively and refreshing on this Easter Sunday.

Andechser Weissbier Hefetrüb is a great looking hefeweizen. It presents itself with massive amounts of pure white head that lasts a long time. The body is a gold hazy peach color, and is of course ultra hazy.

The aromas I detect are that of banana, clove, and a hint of orange rind.

The taste has a little peppery bite, with a little acid sweetness.

This is a very thirst quenching weizen, and a little coarse as well. It is really not too powdery for as much yeast that is left in the bottle.

Overall this is a decent hefeweizen, but not like a good old Weihenstephaner Hefe!

Bottle purchased at the monastery about a month and a half ago.

Cloudy orange with a long lasting white head. Smell is sweet banana and melon. A deep whiff is almost too much for the nose to handle, it's that strong of a smell. Taste is very sweet. This is a weizen that defnitely swings toward the fruity side of things, while not bring out the spicy clove much. Distinct banana lingers on the taste buds long after you take a sip. Yeasty breadiness is present also. Mouthfeel is above average for a wheat beer. Nice and creamy and thick, but still carbonated enough to be refreshing. One of the best wheat beers we sampled in our brief trip to Germany.

Pours a very cloudy yellow color a thin foamy head. Retention and lacing are good. Stronger clove aroma. Coriander and banana there as well. Bigger taste of clove. Mild on banana and coriander. Light on citrus. A little watered down but good.

Pours a hazy yellow colour with a big compact head. Aroma of banana, cloves and citrus (less than usual for the style). Medium body, fizzy carbonation with bubbles coming up all the time. Taste of banana, cloves and citrus.

Appearance: Burnt orange with a big fluffy white head. It looks like most other well biult hefes that I've tried.

Smell: Bananas and citrus fruits. Spicy.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Bananas, and citrus fruits like the smell. Wheaty. No detectable bitternes in the sip, however, the flavor is very well ballanced. The aftertaste is wet, with well balanced hop bitterness and malt sweetness. It can most accurately be described as tasting like happy. Mouthfeel is thicker than most hefes that I have had, but not too thick to make for a hefty brew.

Dirinkability: I must say that I am kicking myself for not trying this beer before today. It is the best hefe I have ever tasted. It is thick and flavorful without being overly filling in the way some hefes tend to be.

BB 16/03/06, consumed two months after its suggested BB date--I hope it's alright. Served lightly-chilled in a 500ml weizen glass.

A: slightly hazy, dark orange-yellowish hue, coming with a thick, cotton-ish white beer head with superb retention; gently as well as lively carbonation.
S: a fresh banana aroma abounds, neither too harsh, "stinky", nor floating, plus peach+apricot+ripe Cantaloupe melon; added with a lightly ashy note from the foam, yeast-drink's sour-sweet yeastiness, and candyish malts+refreshing wheat-malts all together. Showing no clear structure, but the combination is really nice and harmonious. Surprisingly there's not much hint of cloves in the aroma. But for a hefe-weizen, the nose is still one of the most complex and enjoyable I've ever encountered...
T: sour-sweet, slightly tangy, fruity flavour abounds upfront, almost like green mango+green banana--balanced and delicious; a stream of cottony-textured, wheat-ish flavour slowly takes over the theme, backed by a profound flavour of yeast drink (like Yakult) that is also closely in check. Dryish and sour-sweet aftertone lingers in the back, leaving some tangy mouthfeel at the deep end of the tongue, like after eating some "green" fruits...
M&D: superb carbonation and creamy soft mouthfeel--I suspect the "overly-maturation" of this beer has done some good to the overall texture? A medium-full bodied hefe-weizen, deserving slow sipping. The strength is in its balance, if I may, and it's certainly one of my favourite botted hefe-weizen for sure. Next time I'll find a bottle within its sell-by date to see if it's any different.

I had this on tap at the brewery restaurant on March 18, 2006.

A: Hazy straw, lots of fluffy white head, good retention and lace.

S: Malty (bread), citrus and spice, slight banana.

T: Bready, citrus, spice, hint of pineapple and banana. (taste scores between 4 and 4.5).

M: Light to moderate body is very creamy. Light to moderate carbonation.

D: IST GUT!

Happy to see this in the states finally.

Served in a Weizen glass, it has plenty of billowing foam, settling to a sturdy head that lasts for the duration of the glass. Flecks of lace appear all around the sides of the glass.

Banana is big at first but tapers off quickly into clovey yeast esters and wheat cereal, with a pleasant sweet floral note as well.

Creamy wheaty feel, light clove spice and banana esters. Carbonation is a little biting at first but tapers off eventually. Clover honey aftertaste. Medium bodied and substantial, though light in feel and easy drinking. Very solid overall with no flaws.
