Notes / Commercial Description:
Since Saint Joseph’s Day on 19 March 1993, Andechs Weissbier Hell has found many new friends. Untreated and bottled in its natural state of yeasty turbidity, this is a top fermented beer for the epicure.

Its light honey colour makes it an immediate eyecatcher. Then there’s the opalescence and fine structure of the yeast turbidity. At the same time, the creamy, fine pored head invites you to get to know this light Weissbier from the Holy Mountain. You’ll need two takes to enjoy the aromas to the full.

First, distinctive fruity aromas like banana and honeydew melon come to the fore, followed by fine cloves. Andechser Weissbier Hell is a very tangy, refreshing treat with the conviction of a full, soft body. It concludes on a finely balanced interplay of light sweet honey and a delicate acidity with undertones of bitter hoppiness that quickly subside into a harmonious aftertaste.

A Weissbier that embodies a slice of the Andechs lifestyle: finely yeasty, tangy, and sparkling, it refreshes and renews the thirst for more

Bottle, poured into pint glass.

Hazy, blond color. Low foam. Good carbonation.

Typical light Bavarian beer. Good quality. Smooth taste. Seems more on the unfiltered side. Slight fruity/banana taste that is right strength -- doesn't overwhelm the beer.

Solid Bavarian beer.

500 ml bottle

Golden honey with slight amber hues. Silky, white foam cover starts out tall, falls to a constant covering.

A sweet honey malt and sour banana's from the yeast seems to dominate the aroma. Slight mint and sweet fruits are in the nose, but subtle.

The flavor and feeL hits you very clean, super light and very refreshing. A crispy, light malt in feel but mostly sweet, that comes across once again as honey and golden wheat. The wheat malt is very impressive, perhaps one of the cleanest and boldest versions I've ever had. I love a wheat beer that is not dominated by banana yeast flavor's. The yeast is actually very complex with very subtle sour banana and then minty, fruity and earthy. The low level hops provide just a subtle earthy/herbal addition. The balance...not being dominated by fruity yeast is easily one of the best.

If you can't make it to Munich any time soon. ....

500ml bottle in Bavaria Brahaus, Glasgow(£4.90):
Quite a nice wheat beer throughout, the nose in particular being a highlight for me but the taste wasn't too bad either. There was a nice sweetness from the start & the banana flavours definitely dominated but some citrus & faint spice helped with the balance, as did the touches of bitterness lightly dotted about the place. It was an easy beer to drink & one I'd happily have again despite there being better of the style out there.

This was poured into a weizen glass. The appearance was a hazy/cloudy burnt orange color with a thick rocky/foamy white head that took its time to dissipate. Rough messy lacing. The smell started off with the spicy clove up front and then the sweet banana esters, slightly earthy, subtle biscuit. The taste wrapped together all of the previously mentioned flavors with the sweet breadiness lingering into the spicy clove in the aftertaste nicely. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body. Spices hit with a gentle harshness on my tongue. Overall, damn, what a nice hefeweizen. Definitely would have again.
