Notes / Commercial Description:
Since Saint Joseph’s Day on 19 March 1993, Andechs Weissbier Hell has found many new friends. Untreated and bottled in its natural state of yeasty turbidity, this is a top fermented beer for the epicure.

Its light honey colour makes it an immediate eyecatcher. Then there’s the opalescence and fine structure of the yeast turbidity. At the same time, the creamy, fine pored head invites you to get to know this light Weissbier from the Holy Mountain. You’ll need two takes to enjoy the aromas to the full.

First, distinctive fruity aromas like banana and honeydew melon come to the fore, followed by fine cloves. Andechser Weissbier Hell is a very tangy, refreshing treat with the conviction of a full, soft body. It concludes on a finely balanced interplay of light sweet honey and a delicate acidity with undertones of bitter hoppiness that quickly subside into a harmonious aftertaste.

A Weissbier that embodies a slice of the Andechs lifestyle: finely yeasty, tangy, and sparkling, it refreshes and renews the thirst for more

Poured an orange cloudy body with one-finger head and an aroma of spicy clove, banana and yeast/wheat twang. Smooth tasting and clean with a little bit of yeast smoothness and bananas and mild spice. The balance is excellent and it's an enjoyable light beer with a sweet finish.

On tap from the Bier Stein in Eugene, OR it was poured into a traditional hefe glass.

L: A nice light yellow with a light head.
S: A smell of bananas, wheat, and yeasty smell to it as well.
T: Taste as it smells with a nice banana taste at the front followed by wheat then a bit of a strong yeast aftertaste.
F: Fairly carbonated and a medium feel probably the most underwhelming part of the whole beer.
O: Absolutely delicious and would definitely get it again. Getting it on tap was a real treat.

This stuff is fantastic and if it came in 6 packs I would go through cases this summer. The appearance is classic with a near opaque unfiltered look and the flavor is bursting with the banana and clove notes you'd expect (though maybe a step behind beers like Weihenstephaner or Hofbrau) but where this beer really shines is the aroma and the mouthfeel. Right after pouring I knew I was in for a treat, so rich and inviting on the nose. And it has a perfect full, creamy and soft feel with just the right amount of carbonation. The kind if aroma and feel that make you immediately want another sip. This one should get more attention.

Poured into a traditional hefe glass. Lots of carbonation. Had to do a gentle side pour.
A: Pale yellow straw with a substantial head.
S: Very traditional nose, on the fruity side--lot of bubblegum/banana scent. Phenols are restrained compared to some models (like Franziskaner).
T: Very good flavor, reasserting the point above: the yeast character definitely tends to the esters, with light yeasty spiciness underlaying things. Good wheat character.
M: Lots of carbonation! Light, and easily drinkable.
O: This is a very good hefe, which I've never had before. I think it'll jump up there with my two other faves: Weihenstephan & Franziskaner. Top notch!
