There were eight beers on tap, six house beers and two seasonals. The seasonals included a doppelbock that was more Salvator than Celebrator. There were also several vintage 750 ml bottles on sale. Some were for on-premises drinking only, but others could be taken home. Ask your server which can be taken home if that's what you're looking to do. (The prices for the bottles were expensive--$16.95 for the rauchbier was on the cheap side.) All in all, a 4.5 for selection--lots of choice for a brewpub, and a very good mix.

The quality was good. The interpretations of the various styles were traditional, even cautious, but clean and unobjectionable. That's what a score of four was made for.

The bar area is a little cramped. Expect a tight squeeze, and there might be lots of traffic passing by. There are booths throughout the place for privacy. It's a nice enough looking place...looks like a chain, which it is, afterall. What if Applebees were a brewpub?

I ordered the cheeseplate. It included three small samples of beers paired with three cheeses. The pairings were okay, but they didn't bring out anything in the beer or the cheese that wouldn't be there solo. Oddly, there were frozen grapes on the plate. I recommend avoiding them. The cold taste is overwhelming--like brain freeze.

Service at the bar was prompt and attentive, professional but not warm and fuzzy: the bartender provided solid descriptions of the beers, but this doesn't strike me as a place where the bartender will have conversations with customers or tell jokes or whatever.

Location--Okay, the strip mall spells "shops" as "shoppes," but it's really not as upscale as I was expecting. They won't tow your car if you're driving a five-year-old Corolla. My Hyundai wasn't out of place in the parking lot. It's the suburbs, Jake.

V---A bit of a chain feel to it. Which, in fairness, it is a chain. Doesn't seem to have much going on besides a fairly generic feel.

Q---The quality of both the food and the beer is very good. But they make damn sure to charge you for that quality. There's not a bargain to be found on the menu. For happy hour, they have their burgers marked down to $10.

Serv---Service is high quality. Folks are knowledgeable about the food & beverages. Everyone is friendly and approachable.

Sel---A good number of year round standards are complemented by a rotating cast of seasonal offerings. No need to have the same beer twice unless you really liked it.

F---The food is quite good, but the menu is fairly limited.

The thing to know about Iron Hill is that each location is well coordinated with the others and so the Food menu is the same from place to place and the basic menu of house beers is the same although brewed and fresh at each location rather than brought in from elsewhere. Where the uniqueness of each location shines is in the liberty they allow each individual brewmaster to put on offer a line of beers of their own choosing. Their "quality control" exends to proper training of each server in what beers are available, etc. So your experience at each location should be pleasant and worth a visit. Plus your stand by beers from the master menu should be available and there should also be a list of beers at each location unique to that location.

This was my first visit to an Iron Hill. It was close to the hotel I was crashing at, so it seemed like I might as well.

Nice interior. If you've seen one, you've seen them all really. I have passed by many at this point and seen what they looked like, though never went in. There is definitely a formula and system to everything, which is fine. I am glad they've kept a bit of an air of refinement to things. Selection was okay.

I honestly could have dealt with more choices on-tap. Bottles were in the house. I picked up an RIS to take with me.

Food was good enough. About what I'd expect to match the decor.

Service was fine. It was the end of the night, so I think the bartender was wrapping up and ready to get the hell out of there. He didn't seem to care too much about what was going on.

A pleasant enough experience.

Been to this place several times before and wasn't much impressed with the beer quality. Its been maybe two years since my last visit and the beer as far as selection and quality are much better.
Took the wife and fam after church there for dinner and while the wife and kids scoped out the stores I stayed back and seeked out a booth in the bar area. Ten minutes later score, see it pays to be a beer drinker.

Sevice from the staff was good, but it wasn,t too crowded either.

Food was good kids got the standard. Thier meals came with maybe 10 french fries, seriously 10.

Had three beers thier house porter, pils, and a seasonal rojo grande( imp. red) all were very good inquality and taste hovering in the 4pt area.
I think in the future we'll be going back.

I am a huge fan of the Iron Hill chain but this is my least favorite outpost, though the beer was much improved on my last visit here on 3/18/11.

Layout is quite similar to the Media location, with a large u-shaped bar in the middle and dining areas behind and to the side. The beer definitely took a step backward during the transition to the latest head brewer. Not enough seasonals, and mostly underwhelming. My last visit featured Ramrod, the best beer I have had there in the last couple of years. So I am hopeful this is a sign of good things to come.

I find the bartenders here to be generally douchey and slow moving. On my most recent visit, more than half of the bar patrons had either empty uncleared plates, empty unfilled beer glasses or both, while the staff did not appear to be breaking a sweat.

Food is very good, as at all IH branches, but a bit pricey for a brewpub. I love the chain and I am glad there are four other locations that are closer to my house.

This is the only Iron Hill I have ever been to, but I stop here quite a bit since my wife and I frequent some of the stores in this area.

The restaurant itself is warm and inviting with a very nice U shaped bar in the center. Brewing equipment is visible from along the one wall. Bathrooms are always immaculate.

Service has always been prompt and friendly, but now and then you get a server/bartender who does not know a whole lot about the beers. That is pretty standard for this type of brewpub though.

They have your usual roundup of chain pub styles, a lot of them are pretty boring, but all fairly well made. The special brews can range from "meh" to really cool, and occasionally are exceptional.

My real issue with this place is the food. I know a lot of people love it, but I have eaten here quite a few times and though everything is decent, I find that for the price it is really lacking. It has gotten to the point that I now just sit at the bar and have a couple pints and get my growler filled, getting food somewhere else.

Still, this is one of the better chain pubs I have been to and if you are in the area I would definitely stop by.
