I was honestly surprised as hell by this, considering I got it as a cheap addition for myself while grabbing my dad's daily case of Heineken (eugh) for him. Expectations were about as low as possible-- cheap Latin American macro lager, AND in a green bottle? And yet, perhaps *because* of said expectations, I ended up really liking it. The head was persistent, dense, and rocky, and even left some rather nice lacing, it poured a nice golden colour rather than the sickly pale, almost off-white I see with shit-tier lagers, and the taste! Certainly an adjunct for sure, but you can actually taste a lot of proper malty goodness with a background of earthy hops...makes me wonder what ingredients they use, but macros are never transparent like that. >> But still, this was a quite pleasant surprise, and I must thank the kind older fellow who lives above me for suggesting it.

This beer had a nice gold color with a fizzy head. It had a powerful smell of malt and corn. The taste was very delicious and it tasted like corn, earthy hops with an aftertaste of malt. It went down amazingly smooth with a great level of carbonation. This was a surprisingly good beer.

Draft: Poured a pale yellow color ale with a light pure white foamy head with limited retention and light lacing. Aroma is completely dominated by adjunct notes with residual sugar notes. Taste is a gross mess of adjunct and residual sugar notes. Body is light with OK carbonation. Not only bland but mostly dominated by gross adjunct notes.

355ml bottle in Santa Clara, Cuba (1 CUC):
This one was an decent enough beer for what it was & since I was expecting a lot worse, this one proved to be fairly enjoyable & a pleasant first beer from the Dominican Republic for me. It was definitely a basic offering with fairly standard flavours coming through but it was also clean, quite crisp & refreshing in the heat, going down as easily as you can expect from a lager. There was some corn & basic adjuncts making up most of the taste but the hints of citrus & the earthy malts weren't too bad meaning it's probably not one I'd go for in the UK but it went down a treat in the Caribbean.

"Pilsener." Green glass bottle purchased at a crappy Brooklyn bodega.

Stale, dry, off, cardboardy, skunked. Too sweet. A bit of pilsner malt is the highlight here, but it's in rough shape overall.

Pretty dreadful stuff.

D (2.11) / AVOID

Had on draft in the Dominican Republic which is why I'm guessing I enjoyed this more than most people who get an old bottle. Pours light yellow with slightly high carbonation. Aroma is a hint of noble hops and pilsner malt. Taste is much of the same. For an adjunct lager I was impressed that some grain and hops were easy to detect. I don't think I'll go out of my way for this again but when in the DR check it out on draft and you may be pleasantly surprised.

This is a Cheap lager that brings thoughts of Cheap American lagers as you drink it. This lager's got the skunk. Wretched aftertaste that can't be scraped off the tongue. Sure, if you're in the DR and have nothing, I'm sure it's not so bad. But, stateside, never again. The head was all but gone after I poured this golden drink. Smelled of hops, skunk, and...something. Tasted light, over-carbonated, and wanting. Only if desperate, thirsty, and overheated if the bottle is ice-cold, sub-zero.

On my quest to try new (to me) beer, I stumbled across Presidente at the local mix-a-six. I noticed it was brewed in the Dominican Republic, which was honestly its selling point for me. It would be my first taste from that country.

The look is light with a head larger than I would have expected. The smell is, to me, pure American cheap beer. The feel in the mouth is a little different - there seems to be slightly more carbonation than I'm used to in low-end brews.

With the exception of one detail, it looks and tastes like a typical cheap pilsner. That one detail? A nasty little bite in the aftertaste that is so wickedly bitter and dry, it ruins any enjoyment of this beer I may have had. Even as a cheap pilsner, it's bad. Just my opinion. Still glad to have given it a go, though.

Hazy gold with two fingers of white head. Good amount of lace.
Smell is all malt.
Taste is malty with some herbal hops in the finish.
Mouthfeel is light to medium and medium carbonation. Finish is mildly sweet.
Overall a malty and tasty lager.

From the bottle, it pours a very clear, very light golden with a small head. Very light in the nose. Very light in the mouth. Just out of the sweltering heat, a chilled bottle is great, but not so much otherwise.

Just got back from Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and it's either Presidente or they actually had Budweiser this year for the first time. This beer is a lot better out of a bottle that is ice cold, it just has a crisper tastes to it and I could drink all day this way. In the resort it was either out of a can or tap and not that cold, both not good this way but you can drink it. It has a pilsner smell and taste to it, brought some back I purchased in the airport on the way home and will share with a few friends. It was better than the Budweiser bottle to bottle if they sold it where I live I would defiantly buy the bottles stick in the ice chest and drink all day goes very good with lobster or any seafood.

I drank an ungodly number of these in the Dominican republic. One bar served them in a bottle, these tasted great in the heat. Poured from a refilled milk carton, not so good. Dry, extremely light bodied, and slightly odd tasting, this is a bad lager, but if you find yourself on a beach with few other choices, you'll drink it. Or swing for the pina colada.

Had this in the Dominican, I believe it has a higher alcohol content there than in the U.S. The DR is sweltering, they serve this ice cold, it's the only beer option, and it is strong. These factors may have contributed to my positive review.

Had this at our resort in Punta Cana where the beer choices were Presidente or Presidente and if you didn't like those you could have Presidente. So this is a situational beer, and IMHO not really as bad as some have reported. You can't drink hard liquor 24/7 (for very long anyway) and you can't drink the water so this was a not too bad substitute for those situations where you needed something cold and quick and maybe to wash down a meal. I've had worse.

Cooked veggie smell and taste with a enough of noble-type hop flavor and skunk to remind me of a pilsener. I wouldn't call it a pilsener, but it reminds me of one. Off flavors make this one of the lesser beers from south of the border. Will not be having it again.

Taste: crisp, thin, some bitter hop some salty. Nose has mellow hop aroma. Gold, clear, with a very carbonate foam, not much lace. Medium lite beer for hot weather.

Looks and tastes as a mass produced Pilsner should. Smells a little more sulfury than most. Green bottle and I think this was slightly skunked or stale. Whatevs it's vacation

Poured from a bottle into a mug, clear but dark gold, no skunk smell, maybe some grain and corn but surprisingly pleasing

Taste can't quite place it but it tastes delicious, very smooth, no bitterness perhaps some citrus, malt, bread notes still tastes great very smooth

One of the best Mexican beers I have ever had! Kills corona and is on par with dos Equis, closer to a dos Amber than lager but phenomenal beer will buy again.

Pours clear, straw yellow in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is sweet corn and grass. Very light bodied and sweet. Not bad at all for the style. I often find that beer in green bottles has some skunkiness to it and this one really does not possess it all. Nothing I would rush out for, but decent.

I just came home from my vacation in the Dominican Republic where I had several of these. I thought it was a quite typical Adjunct American Lager, like Corona, yellow color, not much head, light smell, some grain in the taste and it had no odd, no skunky, and no metal flavors, but it was watery. It wasn't bad drinking in the heat, and sometimes it was quite refreshing. For its style it was not bad. However, it is certainly not a tasty beer.

The ratings here are way low, in its class, it's infinitely better than its peers. I borderline loved this next to a host of crappy cheap beers from Puerto Rico and it's neighbors, it's head and shoulders better. Maybe it's fresher than samples I had, but it crushes. No metal, no mineral, no stale, no corny sweetness, no amateurishness, it's drinkable and good for what it is, and sets the bar high for other dominican beers that have to follow it. Slight haze from the bottom of the bottle, but it's not overly refined, and although the head is short lived, it rises high on the initial pour and looks more like beer than yellow water, so I support it fully. Malt and hops are both perceptible to nose and tongue, which alone puts it ahead of its mates. Mild toasted notes and grassy florals, summery, with real body and brisk carbonation. Th only thing better than its relative position on he island lager hierarchy is its price. 2 bucks a bomber is tough to beat. I have the light version in the fridge ready to rock, but I wish I had got two of these instead. Underrated, especially in context...

Just your average lager swill. It tasted just like a Budweiser, so not very remarkable. It was one of the few beers offered at the resort I stayed at when I was in the Dominican Republic. Though, in the heat of the day by the pool, it wasn't so bad to drink.

Weak and bland lager from the Caribbean. Best feature is the appearance is rich golden color with a nice airy head. Else, forget this one, unless you’re in the DR and there’s nothing else to drink.

Pours Golden amber a bit darker than the usual AAL. Clear and with active carbonation. Creamy head of white foam that lasted a very long time. Nose is very malty. An awkward weedy hop with a minty backing. Hop presence on the nose is low. The bottle says pilsner. No diacetyl no dms. Taste is breaddy but the malt had a sinking bit of heaviness to it. My beer was dated best by 07/2015. Maltier, wet not dry and missing some carbonation. A slight hop bitter to finish it and a grainy husky aftertaste. No real heavy corn taste. Not crisp.

I didn't think this was that bad.

Also, before I review this beer, I have to thank the short-haired dude in line for Bourbon County at the BRL in Bloomington. Here goes:

A: Crystal-clear brown with a fairly large head. Good.

S: Not bad. Toasty malt, some caramel, corn and some wheat.

T: Good. Toasty caramel and corn. Can tell that this is an adjunct lager. However, the corn is not as pronounced as in other adjunct lagers.

F: Nice and crisp. Good.

O: A good adjunct lager. Better than the American varieties.
