Very clean tasting lager that complements spicy food very well. One of the best tasting of it's kind that I have had. In the same class as Spaten lager, but a bit better.

Steinlager Pure has a thick, white head, a mostly clear, yellow golden appearance, lots of streaming bubbles (etched glass), some brown yeast chunks floating about, and a lot of thick lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of sweet, pungent barley malt, and the flavor is fairly hoppy, sweet, somewhat sour, and one gets a full taste of hay and barley malt. Lots of white bread and bread crust with this one. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Steinlager Pure finishes crisp, semi-dry, refreshing, and drinkable. This is a very good beer, and I think you should try it out.

This beer is extremely smooth for a light lager. The beer pours very light with almost no head, lace, or foam, but decent amount of carbonation. The beer smells of light hops and grains, and has an extremely smooth finish. This is an easy beer to drink.

Poured a 330-ml bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance - pale straw colour with a good sustaining 1/4-inch head. Fairly decent carbonation. Nice lacing on the sides.

Smell - cooked veggie smell over a hoppy, nearly skunky aroma. Doesn't smell like it's crossed over though!

Taste - crisp, malty taste with an almost floral element here. Nice hoppiness at the end and finishes fairly dry.

Mouthfeel - despite the higher carbonation very smooth, mellow characteristics.

Drinkability - I really like this beer. Maybe it's partly the marketing, but it seems crisp and honest and goes down easy.

Poured from a green bottle into pilsner glass. Every so slight haze. Golden yellow color. Meringue like white head. Effervescent. Not much aroma to be had. Definitely not skunked. I was nervous about the green bottle, but the cardboard 6 pack was impervious to light.

Smooth European lager. Hint of malt. No residual bitterness. Very balanced. Fruity and yeasty. Very drinkable. I could have a 6 pack in an hour. Clean and crisp and refreshing. If this came in a keg, I would strap it to my back and mow the entire neighborhood. My wife LOVES it!

Appearance: Brilliant clarity. Pale gold in color. Head is white and medium-sized. A bit airy and foamy. Right for style.

Smell: Faint pale malt and peaches. Crisp and clean.

Taste: About as smooth and clean as it gets, if your green bottle has survived the trip fr New Zealand. Pale malt and very slight bitterness are all that's present. No weird aftertaste is a big plus for a larger label lager!

Mouthfeel: Medium body and high carbonation with just a bit of a bite. Just right for a lager--neither full, nor watery.

Overall: Hardly exciting, but not at all distasteful. This is the beer we should have been drinking in college. Doesn't require a lot of thought, goes Dow fast and easy, but doesn't require a chaser.

Appearance: extremely clear pale yellow. big bubbly head that only lasted a few moments but clued to its carbonation.
Smell: smells of fresh cut grass and lemon. Light malt with subtle hop presence. Quite pleasant.
Taste: crisp malt through the mid palate. light fruit and hops.
Mouthfeel: medium carbonation cleanses the palate
Overall: one I will come back to. Not bad from my first one from New Zealand.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass

A: Poured a pale straw yellow color with about a finger and a half worth of head that settled quickly to a ring with no lacing to speak of. Very visible carbonation from start to finish.

S: A little skunky but not bad, I'm getting a little cooked veggie smell over a light hoppy smell. Smells better than I thought it would.

T: Good mix here, a malty taste up front with a light floral hops half way through. The finish is clean and a little dry.

M: Good crisp carbonation with a strangely smooth and dry finish. Very nice.

D: I was really surprised by this beer, not the Euro Lager crap I was thinking it would be. Very nice mix on all fronts (except for the smell)... Nice mix of malt, hops, crisp and smooth, very easy to drink. I would look for this one again. Thanks New Zealand !!

The attractively-designed bottle is a superb start, though it is green...rather unfortunate. Of little consequence here, though...

Pours a straw-gold, with attractive head and only a little lace.

Biscuity aroma -- not bad at all, as I was expecting a nasty adjunct. Not so here.

Taste is yeasty-malty and smooth, with a nice muted hoppy finish. This one's crisp and refreshing, and certainly a standout among basic, no-frills lagers.

i had a session with this beer. Drink it if you really are a serious connoisseur of fine brews. Its not that bad - the beer has some sweet qualities worthy of a 'pure' title and its not bitter or overwhelming.

A worthy find; hard to be disappointed unless it tastes know...

Grabbed a 6-pack of this... haven't had it for years... and I am quite sure it's the same Steinlager I used to get in larger bottles back when I was much younger. Always loved it.

- Clear straw yellow lager, big fluffy white head, leaves a nice half finger of lasting foam... bubbly...

- Skunky green hop, biscuit, bready, grain... slightly sweet and more grassy skunky hop.

- Sweet light grains, sugars, skunky grassy hop... bitter earthy touch... grain and sweet oats...

- Light bodied, slightly sweet syrupy... bit drying and sticky..

- Overall a bubbly light lager full of flavor. Many don't like the skunky touch to the hops, but it has been the flavor profile of Steinlager for years. Maybe this isn't the same as the one I remember... doesn't quite have the bite and skunk..

Clear and golden. Less than a finger of bubbly head. It disappears fast and leaves only a few groups of bubbles. Malty nose. Grainy and a lemony sweetness. Herbal/grassy hops. Sweet pale malts but that fades quickly to a slightly sour/lemon tingle with a lot of carbonation. A veggie and grain flavor comes as soon as the carbonation fades. Very dry on the finish with that lingering veggie/lemon flavor. Bitterness is grassy. A friend gave me a six of this for driving him home. It came in an box with a punch out side and clear, long-neck bottles.

330ml embossed green bottle. It really is some snazzy packaging, but alas the color is green.

It pours a clear, pale gold color with a fizzy bright white head. Pretty typical, but nice.

There is no skunk in the aroma just a clean grainy smell with a bit of fruitiness, earthiness, and yeast.

The flavor continues with this fruity style. It is for sure one of the fruiter, yeastier "EPL"s.

I was expecting this to be a very bland lager but it has a lot of sweetness and fruit.

Picked up on a whim after a New Zealander who frequents my store gave a great review of it. Perhaps it is national bias, but my favourite beer style is the Euro style pale lager, so I gave it a go.

The green bottle suggests there would be some skunkiness, but surprisingly there was not much in the smell; at least when compared to something like Heineken, which is always skunky beyond repair whenever I have it. Pours a urine yellow colour much like any euro lager, with maybe half a pinky of head. The smell is good - a little grainy and a little corny, but nothing offensive. The taste is that of a well made euro lager - a little bitter, but not so bitter that my face cringes at all. It is a little sweet, but not as sweet as something like Viru. another euro lager which I swear had some liquid sucrose or something pumped into it. Overall the hopiness is great for the style, and the aftertaste is as clean as can be expected.

When comparing this lager to other lagers of its style, Steinlager really stands out as one of the better ones. I`ll likely pick this up again.

Poured from a 300 ml can into a pilsner glass. The can is quite unique, tall and thin, and a brilliant green color. The beer is more typical in appearance, pale yellow with a thin white head that dissapates quickly.

Smelled at first like a typical lager, grainy and grassy with hints of lemon. As it warmed (and I mean over the space of ten minutes) it began to smell of sugar, wih a faint funk undertone.

Crisp, sweet, and slightly malty, with a mild lemon aftertaste. Some slight bitterness ends it.

Light bodied, with active carbonation that gives it a sharper taste and feel.

A decent beer overall, though not one that I would seek out again. Too expensive for what you're getting and there are many other better lagers locally available.

A-Pale yellow color. Head fizzes and dies. Looks like a macro lager.

S-Hey, this is a bit better than expected. A bit grassy, and a bit grainy. Doesn't display much of the Macro lager skunk. Mildly pleasant.

T-This one doesn't taste too bad either. More flavor than your regular lager. Grass and grain and some sweetness. Better than anticipated.

M-Light with heaps of bubbles. No unpleasant aftertaste.

O/D-A good lager. I enjoy the flavor in regards to the style. What makes this beer infinitely better is that at my local store, due to a closeout, this beer is $3.50 for a six pack. Might need to grab a nice $12 dollar case in the near future.

Pours a clear golden colour with a finger thick white head with good retention. The nose starts a bit skunky along with some pale malt, grass and citrus fruit. The taste is much of the same but the hop flavour is more of the earthy nature adding a slight bitterness at the end. It does finish quite crisp and clean. This along with a light bodied carbonation make this a nice refreshing drink.

I'll try anything for a dollar and this was not that bad!

A - My guess is that it's a light almost clear yellow with a 1/2 inch of sticky white head. It's a guess since I drank it from the bottle.

S - Initial smells of sweet water, mild corn/rice, and some apple or pear sweetness (skunked?)

T - Initial pear or apple skunked flavors are tart at first but quickly mash with the sweeter malts and flavors of very light corn and rice. Almost sugar or vanilla like sweetness makes it enjoyable.

M - Light and at times almost "champagne like"

Overall again for a dollar it's quite a good lager and as the temperatures reach 90 here in Pittsburgh it quenched my thirst very well. Not worth more than a dollar but it drinks well for a beer from New Zealand.

[Poured into an generic tulip glass]

B: [11.15 FL OZ, 330ml]Generic shape and simplistic labels. Not a lot of information, but includes a brief description of ingredients and abv. Claims to be pure, making one assume that this is a beer that comes off as really clean and crisp.

A: Clear golden body with very nice fluffy/creamy head(good retention), and decent lacing.

S: As expected, it's skunky like a lager, but it's not as intrusive compared to the majority. Others smells reminds me of pears and grass.

T: Smooth malt complimented by Lemon and Lime, grass and grain.

M: Crisp/clean, light bodied, high carbonation, and low alcohol presence.

O: One of the best lagers I've ever had, although I don't think much of them. When your comparing lagers, this comes off as clean and lives up to it's claim. The skunk also didn't make the drinking experience too unpleasant oppose to others lagers I've come across. If your into lagers, I recommend picking up some Steinlager. I must say that this surprised me, since I wasn't expecting much. Cheers!!!

Pours a clear yellow with a bit of frothy head. Other than being the colour of piss it looks pretty good. Smells like any adjunct lager... Some light hops and a bit of malt but mostly oderless. Good mouthfeel though and solid drinkability. Overall, the best thing about this beer is the sexy can

A: Pale, straw yellow color. Poured a 1 finger fizzy white head that dissipated quickly to a few random bubbles. Decanted continually. Laced in thin rings.

S: Sweet wet grains. Hay and grass.

T: Light sweet malts. Mild spicy hop character. Finishes clean and crisp.

M: Light body. Ample carbonation. Very smooth ahead of a clean and slightly dry, crisp finish.

D: Easy to drink. Not as bold as some, but balanced and clean.

330ml green bottle purchased in Dunedin NZ and consumed the followig day.
Light in color and very light in body, this has excellent clarity but only a small fizzy head that soon disappears.
Aroma: light sweet malts and white bread. Very mild but pleasing.
Flavor: more hoppy than suggested by the aroma, but still sweet up front and only mildly bitter in the finish and aftertaste.

O: much better than the bottles I've had in the USA. Still, this is the Rolling Rock of NZ and not impressive

Pale gold pour from green bottle with tight white foam; good cap, clarity and carbonation. Aroma is an odd slightly floral/slightly skunky biscuit nose. Flavor is yeasty biscuit and just a little floral hop. Lite watery mouthfeel. Overall, a crisp easy drinking lager, but an odd smell I found off putting.

A – Pale clear gold. White head sits low with ok lace.

S – Light malt, wax, and a simple mineral / woody hop.

T – Nice soft malt, lime-like acidity. Honey and banana sweetness.

M – Medium-light body. Clean finish. Nice carbonation.

O – Not a bad malt character.

Pours a clean, clear and bubbly golden yellow color with fizzy white head. Scent is relatively sweet malts with whiffs of wild grass and a faint minerally and metallic note. Taste brings more sweetness than expected from the style, quite clean and crisp in taste and body until a quite minerally presence takes over at the end. Lighter side of medium bodied, active carbonation. Slightly more flavorful pale lager with a little more than aggressive minerally presence.
