On draught at Bareburger. Half off for Happy Hour!

Not a bad look, as it pours a clear golden color. A moderate frothy head retains well. There is lots of swirly and sticky lacing.

In the nose, there are lightly sweet notes of cereal grain and bready malts. There are also lightly grassy and lemony hops aromas.

The taste allows clean malt flavors to shine, sweet, soft, bready and cracker like. Lightly spiced with grassy and mildly earthy hops flavors, moderate to mild bitterness just for balance. The finish is dry and lightly crisp with some biscuity sweetness.

Medium to light bodied. The mouthfeel is in between crisp and smooth. The carbonation is moderate.

I don’t think this is as bad as rated. For what it’s worth, it’s a pleasant Euro Pale Lager.

500 ml can poured into a tulip glass. Best by date of 9/11/21.

L---Clear, golden color. A slightly aggressive poured resulted in a massive, soapy white head that had very good retention and left excellent lacing.

S---Sweet with some hoppiness. Nothing specific that I can identify.

O---It's rated very poorly here on BA, but it's a lot better than most AALs.

T---Follows the nose. Vague hoppiness, but nothing specific.

F---Bubbly & light. Can't complain.

Lots of “off” flavors going on in this cheap Spanish lager. Metallic and bitter and some sulfur. Really poorly made. Tastes like metals in bad river water. I’m usually fine with cheap AALs and Euro Lagers but this one is just not that good.

Today is W, 13 Mai 2020 & I am in deep isolation during the COVID-19 crisis, giving me ample time to clear out my backlog. This one will CANtinue a few days of imports for The CANQuest (tm). This one came to me from local, in-person trader @tone77 following a trip to Italy!

From the CAN: "Premium Beer Cerveza Especial"; "Imported from Spain"; "Cinco Estrellas (Five Stars)"; "Original"; "Madrid 1890"; "Official Sponsor [of] Real Madrid F.C."

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. I watched in rapt fascination as it formed two-plus fingers of foamy, soapy, rocky, bone-white head with decent retention. Color was a very pretty Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, leading to CANother visit from The Gelt Gang of Midas, Mammon & Croesus, all anxious for a taste. My turn. Nose was pleasant, corn adjunct-free, bready with a light Noble hoppiness. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium, solid for a Lager. The taste was clean, lightly malty, lightly hoppy, just about right for the style. Finish was semi-dry and quite refreshing. It is easy to envision crushing a couple/few of these at a fitba (soccer) game. YMMV.

33 cl can bought at the Supermarket in Spain. Poured into a glass. Looks good like a usual lager. A small head that fades away after a bit. Cellar smell though not bad. The taste is bitter. The feel is of usual lager. It is a very normal beer.

Bottle best buy 6/09/20, had in Cancun
Pours a light fizzy bubbly head, lower retention, little lacing, crystal clear pale color

Nose brings that typical macro European lager skunky like, bad malt thing, light hops

Taste isn't too bad, some malt and bread, a little skunky but not much, some minerals and chalky notes, medium hop bitterness with floral herbal flavor, light, drier finish medium high bitterness lingering

Mouth is lighter bod, med fizzy carb

Overall eh, not terrible but typical European skunky lager notes

The pour is straw colored with bubbly carbonation. The pour seems to also be more foamier than other lagers that I've had in the past. The taste is malty with slight bitterness, & slight floral leaning towards the finish. I have not had a lager from Spain that I did not like so far. This beer is definitely not of poor standards, if you don't like this beer then you probably don't like to drink pale lagers cause this little thing is smooth. There is a best by date on the back of the bottle label. Not to mention, these peel off bottle caps are cool too. Cheers! B-

Look: Pale orange with visible carbonation bubbles floating up. Half a finger of white head that quickly dissipates.

Smell: Slightly skunky, citrusy hops and orange peel.

Taste: Malty at the front with very mild hop bitterness that lingers a bit longer. Uncomplicated.

Mouthfeel: Full body with high, sparkly carbonation.

Overall: While it smells a bit off, overall it’s a decent and refreshing lager.

See through with little head from tap. Pale lager look. Saaz mineral type nose is not very prominent. More generic on the flavor, beery with a slight bite but not bad. Decent carbonation and a very light feel. Certainly better than adjunct stuff.

Again a quite Saaz-y lager, although not as much as the Estrellas Galicia. You can recognize the trademark hops in the nose, but the taste is a little bit maltier with a quick dry finish. But the Saaz flavor isn't as impressive as with the above-mentioned, a bit less interesting - but again the smell is the strongest point in the beer. Doesn't let you down and doesn't turn rotten in the end though and this is something to appreciate, I guess. Could be much worse.

Pint at Revolución de Cuba, Glasgow (£4.60):
Quite a disappointing beer overall, it was basic & fairly bland from the start but at the same time it was pretty similar to a lot of macro pale lagers out there. There was light citrus & biscuit flavours at times but for the most part the beer was all hay, grassy touches & basic adjuncts with a hint of skunk to round things off; it's a bad day when a beer makes Estrella look good.

Got it on draft at Slate, DC.
Quite refreshing, with a good crisp hop taste and biscuit-like maltiness.
Not that special of a lager, but still better than the usual BMC.

Lighter Spainish lager, nothing outstanding or noteworthy but it's light and drinkable and goes well with tapas or during the summer. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy this but when at a Spanish restaurant I will go "Local."

Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell has lots of grains, some malts. Taste is crisp, malts, grains, hints of lemon, highly refreshing. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a good example of this style.

You get to the point sometimes with these country specific macro adjunct type lagers where they all taste do similar. Cool to have this random Spanish beer, but it's just nothing special. Perhaps better than others because it lacks and corn sweetness, skunks oxidation, or metallic off flavor a that tend to characterize these across the bord. This has a solid malt flavor and more body than a lot of them, pale looking, but with a slight toasted element happening that gives it a little up front depth. Average to weak hop profile, fresh enough, but just barely ripping it up, not much flavor coming from them. It's also one of those beers that just has to be ice cold to have any value. It gets messy and tastes sweet and off as it warms up. Cold though, it was a solid companion to some shrimp ceviche and later to grilled beef. It likes island type flavors and isn't so flavorless as to be lost on food right away. In the context of global beer like coors and bud, this is always
preferable, but with some craft available don't bother with Mahou.

Fine, in days gone by, meant something like, “of superior quality; excellent in character or ability.” These days it is more commonly used to mean, “Satisfactory; acceptable.” It is in the latter sense—and most definitely not the former sense—that I use the word to describe this beer. Mahou Cinco Estrellas is fine.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Randomly came upon this on my local's mix-a-six rack and felt I had to try it. I mean, it's a new Spanish brew, why not? It pours a clear brass topped by a finger or so of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises mild sweet biscuit, light sweet flowers, a touch of minerals, and a bit of corn for good measure. The taste brings in more of the same, basically a corn bread manifested as a beer. Surprisingly, though, it works well here. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a smooth feel. Overall, a nice Euro lager, one I found to be surprisingly drinkable and enjoyable despite its plain-ness and seeming lack of ambition. I'd have it again were I in the mood for something in this style.
