500 ml
Swing Top Bottle/Capped

Poured into a goblet a pretty nice translucent brown color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger off-white head, which also leaves some minimal sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, some hops, with a pretty nice dark fruit complex (cherries, raisins, figs, dates, plums, grapes), bourbon, oaky. The taste is pretty nice, malty, kinda hoppy, with a pretty nice dark fruit complex (cherries, raisins, figs, dates, plums, grapes), bourbon/oak, pretty nice sweetness. Full Body, ABV is hidden very well, a pretty nice complex brew, nice smoothness. Overall, this one surprised me, very tasty.

This was interesting. It's 11.5%, but drinks like its 80 proof. Tons of sweet booze, which is only accentuated due to the fact that it's very lightly carbonated. I didn't care for it much at first, but it grew on me over the course of the evening. I wouldn't buy again, but appreciated the experience.

The appearance is much the same; virtually no lasting head, but that is the nature of many high ABV beers -- score upgraded to 3.0. Warm, boozy, malty aroma -- slight rating upgrade to 3.75. Sweeter note to the flavor while retaining nutty, caramel, and dark fruit notes -- scored upped to 3.5. The mouthfeel hasn't changed much but with some more barleywine experience, the feel seems more to style; warm, heavy; coats the palate.

Well, if this is a newer version of the beer, it certainly has greater appeal to me than my first go around. A solid if rather unremarkable barleywine.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The body appears as a dark, red-copper color; very fizzy, quickly fading head. Scents of caramel, molasses, brown sugar, and tree nuts; spruce. Heavy sweetness in the taste; caramel and brown sugar; boozy. Heavy and syrupy feel, rather flat.

Syrup and heavy booze notes define this offering. The lack of carbonation and lasting head really hurts the appearance and mouthfeel. A cloyingly sweet aftertaste also detracts from the overall appeal. The brew suffers from lack of coherence and balance for such a massive product. A fine beer if you like an in-your-face sugar and alcohol-forward beer.

Sweet and boozy. For being aged 3 years, it tastes fresh.

Slight alcohol on the nose, clear ruby/brown color, thin white head that dissipates quickly, the taste is where this beer sings. While the bourbon dominates, it's got great sweet caramel vanilla flavor with a hint of tannin, but lingers on the palatte, but not a heavy beer by any means. If you don't like bourbon, this isn't for you, but overall a really nicely balanced beer even if a little heat in the nose and thin on the mouthfeel, I thought it was really well done.
