A - roast and caramel malt notes dominate. Slight hop notes.
A - one finger of rocky head that quickly dissipates. Clear ruby in color.
M -light to medium body with medium carbonation. Slight creaminess.
T - Roast and caramel from the aroma dominate. Very subtle malty sweetness balances nicely with the bitterness.
D - Nice light beer with some roasty notes. Very drinkable. Has some nice stuff going on, but is not too cluttered.

Poured a 12 oz. bottle into a pint ale glass.

Color is a pleasing dark amber, almost mahogany color. The last of the pour is almost syrup-like, with the last few drop not wanting to leave the bottle. Head is thin with visible marbling, which soon disappears and leaves no lacing.

Smell is faint, sweet and roasted nuts with a hint of malt.

Taste is flat, reminds me of a bottle of pop left open too long.

Mouthfeel is in the roof. Like the aroma, too thin.

This was my fourth bottle of a six-pack. I started to review the first, but held judgment until I was sure. Sadly, all four bottles had the same results. I won't share this with my friends, and I'm too tight to pour the last two down the drain. The beer looks good, but seems to have been rushed out the door.

12oz brown bottle with a best by date of 11/18/10 stamped on the neck. Thanks Ryan for the chance to try this.

Buster nut... appears a perfectly clear amber brown color with less than a finger of lightly tanned head. The foam of bubbles does not display much power of retension and before long it is nothing more than a thin layering atop the brew. Multiple swirls hardly revive little more than a few extra bubbles.

The aroma of this brew is grainy with some toasty suggestions of chocolate malt and a bit of coffee. Lightly fruity from a combination of the alcohol's presence, yeast and floral hops.

The taste is grainy with chocolate malt and a bit more fruity flavored than I would like but it isn't suprising how sweet and fruity this offering is considering the warning from the aroma. It finishes somewhat crisp but has an ackward fruitiness about it that I just don't like. More sips start to yield a bit of bitterness that seems to be more from a chocolate maltiness than from hops. The alcohol is well surpressed and this would be a fine session brew if it wasn't for the fruitiness. Perhaps a change in the hops is needed or a different yeast or fermenting temperature to make this one less fruity?

Medium bodied brew with a light level of carbonation. Could benefit from a bit more carbonation as the lack of carbonation imparts a bit of a watery feel.

A: Brown with a light amber tint; small quickly dissipating head; lacing is pretty good

S: Very nutty; caramel and vanilla too but mostly loads of roasted nuts; almost a rum like aroma here; really sweet but rich maltiness shines through too

T: Roasted malts and barley come through the most; fairly watery; some graininess on back end; lots of nuts with a touch of caramel and raisins but it is just doesn't come together very well in the end

F: Decent but fairly thin

D: Really easy drinking; this isn't always my favorite style but Ska does a decent enough job with it; I like the nutty flavor but it does become a tad wearing after a while

Poured into a standard pint glass. The beer is a cola-like dark brown. A cream colored head recedes quickly to a film, then half-way down there's nothing. Some light lacing sticks to the glass. The smell is malty and sweet. A maple syrup presence and a nutty undertone. The beer tastes quite malty and syrupy up front. Not much hop balance, even in the finish. The beer feels thick and sticky in the mouth.

Overall, this beer has it's ups and downs, but it's alright. Too sticky and definitely not good on a hot summer night.

Huge, creamy over-sized head erupts from my stein with the pour, loose crown of bubbles on a thick, two-finger base of tiny bubbled foam. Disappearing it leaves a lovely love down the glass. The color is a deep, beautfiul dark amber brown hue. Incredibly rich looks, superb. In the glass, the nose first gives off a strong grassy aroma, then underneath you find a softly sweet nutty brown base, hints of (good) dustiness and Swirling interesting aromas fill the glass, keep me on my toes. Quite unique and enjoyable. Taste is equally excitingly tasty; sweet malty tastes, crisp perfectly-bittered hop traits, creaminess and a slightly nutty finish. Very good, really scratches my brown ale itch. Buster has a slighty bigger than medium feel, covers the palette nicely and delivers it's great flavors all over my mouth.

Wow, blown away by this beer! Ska really hit this one out of the park on all counts; looks, tastes, style-wise. Very tasty brew here.

12 oz. bottle poured into pint glass.

A: Poured a clean dark brown with half-finger tan head. Good carbonation.

S: Sweet dark malts with some earthy scents.

T: Brown sugar and earthy malts up front. Slightly nutty. Not too complex.

M: Pretty watered-down for a brown ale. Consistency isn't exactly right...

D: Not a bad brown ale, but not a great brown ale, either. Too watery for my tastes.

Pours a clear super dark crimson-brown with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, roasted nut, and slight char aromas. Taste is much the same with char and roasted nut flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer with a nice aroma, but the flavors are a bit bland and watery in my opinion.

Poured from a bottle into schooner. Best before date on the bottle was 1/27/12.

A - clear brown with very little head and just a hint of lacing

S - nice roasty malt and caramel on the nose

T - some slight initial hops (more than I'm accustomed to in an English Brown Ale, but definitely not too much) melting into a caramel and nutty middle with a bit of smoke in the finish. Nice malt backbone and not overly sweet. Maybe even a hint of licorice at the end.

M - medium bodied with a small amount of carbonation; coats the mouth nicely

D - goes down easy

Overall this was a solid English Brown Ale - slightly more hops than in some of the others I've had, but it's just a hint and melts away into the big caramel and malt finish. Definitely tasty and worth a try.
