An American-style India Pale Ale with a deep golden-orange color. Bitter and hoppy, with a surprisingly smooth finish.

This beer pours a pale amber with a large head, The aroma is classic, with caramel and toasted malts, pine, bitter orange peel, and dried mango. The flavor starts slightly sweet, with burnt sugar caramel malts leading, then becomes fruity, with citrus peel, dried mango, mandarin orange, and finishes with a nice and bitter dry pine. The mouthfeel is fairly full, with bright carbonation. Overall this is an excellent beer - a classic wets coast IPA that hits all the right notes.

Although I read that this one is pure bitterness, I somehow expected it to be hoppy too. Instead, I found that it did not have too much aroma to it but raw bitterness, although from good quality (US) hops so I could forgive that. It is something like a “US IPA take on an English IPA” kind of thing. Interesting, qualitywise quite nice, not my favorite though, I prefer ones with more zest and hop aroma.

Slightly hazy copper/amber color with a substantial and lasting white head and some nice lacing. The aroma is citrus, caramel malt and pine resin.
The taste is caramel malt, grapefruit, tangerine, pine. The finish is dry with a lingering pine resin and some herbal notes.
The body is medium, moderate carbonation, very easy drinking.
Altogether, this is a very nice example of west coast style IPA, well balanced, tasty and enjoyable, makes you want more.

Sep. 2011: 355 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is not mentioned on the can. Amber colour, large to moderate lasting white head. Lovely aroma of American hops, notes of citrus fruits, tropical fruits and spruce. Medium body. The flavour has moderate notes of grapefruit and spruce / pine, not extreme in any way. Very enjoyable.

12oz can, served in a tulip glass. Date stamp B4 5865. Best Before Date: 11/01/2022 12:03.
Appearance: Hazy dark amber color, with a thin off-white head, with lots of fine strands and islands of lacing.
Smell: Faint pine and grapefruit. Surprisingly not very aromatic.
Taste: Pine and grapefruit, with a sharply bitter finish. Some underlying bready malt with a little bit of toasty notes and some roasted malt bitterness as well for balance.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, slick, light carbonation, a little bit sticky on the teeth.
Overall / Drinkability: Very drinkable - I could easily have had a 16oz of this and not even batted an eye at it as it went down quick. It's very much an old-school west-cost style AIPA with the pine and grapefruit notes, with more pine and bitterness than anything else. Went well with Chilaquiles for dinner, and likely would go well with a few other dishes as well. It's more than the sum of its parts as each component isn't that amazing (other than the dark color), but together it works well.

Scrappy notes from 2015. 6 pack of 12 ounce cans. **Also just had this on tap as of 11/24/22.
Excellent! Pours almost transparent amber w a slightly soapy white head that has good retention. Smell is orange, pine, malts. Wet and crunchy with a sharp bitter hop bite. Slightly tropical or rather more citrusy and zesty. Light malts are there. Soft mouthfeel. Smooth and medium bodied. Bold, bitter pine resin and citrus zest all the way through the finish which lingers. This is an outstanding beer for sure.

look: big off white rocky head with very good retention, beer is a dark amber to copper colour in the glass, lightly hazy but pretty clear, slow moving carbonation within the beer.
smell: not too impressive an aroma but not unpleasant, biscuit and caramel, lot of orange and grapefruit, resin, pine, floral.
taste: nice enough but not remarkable, light biscuit and caramel, orange and orange pith, pink grapefruit, seriously bitter, nicely sweet, floral, lingering bitterness and sweet fruit flavours linger on the finish.
feel: medium bodied, light to medium carbonation, a tonne of lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue, very drinkable.
overall: i suspect age may have gotten the better of this can, not bad none the less, would like to try fresh or fresher at least
