Tonight I am comparing several different IPA's that are all poured from a can. In addition to this one, I am tasting Santa Fe Brewing's Happy Camper IPA, Anderson Valley Hop Ottin' IPA and Marble Brewery IPA.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a large tulip glass, this is a dark amber or orange brew with just a slightly cloudy appearance. The aroma has hints of malt, but the orange and pine hops scent dominate. The flavor is nicely balanced, with a just slightly bitter aftertaste.

This is a top 20 IPA, one that I will be drinking again.

A - It is burnt orange with amber highlights. It is topped with three inches of beige head.

S - I get some hints of citrus and pine.

T - The taste is a nice combination of citrus and pine. The flavors intermingle with the pine winning out on the finish.

M - It is medium and smooth.

O - It has more pine than I care for. I prefer more citrus and tropical fruit. It is good and bitter.

16oz pint at the Alamo Drafthouse Denver (actually out in Littleton).

This beer pours a clear, medium copper amber hue, with one finger of foamy, mostly creamy beige head, which leaves a speckled wall of fuzzy lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of pine resin, orange and grapefruit pith, caramel cream malt, and a further floral bitter hoppiness. The taste is a whole lot more astringent, the fruity hops gaining a certain metallic edge, the malt twisting closer to a bready sort of nature, and an edgy perfume essence arising.

The carbonation is a bit peppy, but mostly easygoing, the body medium-light in weight, and teetering in its smoothness. It finishes fairly dry, the perfumed and crackery notes persisting.

A decent enough hop-heavy IPA, even if said hops go off the reservation a bit. The metallic, flinty character might make a huge dent in the overall desire for another, that is if there weren't already so many other options around here.
