Appearance: Clear, deep golden orange, with a large, sticky off-white head, which retains very well. The lacing is thick and scattered, the carbonation is profuse.

Aroma: An absolutely massive aroma of pine, grapefruit rind, and sweet orange hops burst forth. There is sweet caramel mat as well, but the malt is quite secondary to the staggering hop aroma.

Taste: AS with the aroma, tasting yields a surge of hops, predominately pine, but grapefruit and sweet orange hops are present as well. The caramel malt presence seems understated, bu that is probably only when considered against the hops. In a lesser-hopped beer, the malt would probably stand out. That being said, while this is a very hoppy beer, it still seems graceful ad pleasing. Finishes with a lingering medicinal hop bitterness, The relatively high ABV (6.8%) is handled so artfully that it almost escapes notice.

Mouth feel: Soft and full with zesty carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: A very well-crafted and drinkable example.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve ounce aluminum can, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 3.75

Pours a dark orange color with a finger length head that dissipates slowly and leaves a blanket of lacing. Smells of lots of resinous pine, grapefruit zest, lemon, grass, and a significant amount of carmel/candy sweetness. Smells pretty balanced. Taste starts with a little pine and grapefruit. Then the middle provides a nice malt backbone. Good amount of carmel sweetness and a nice breadiness somewhat balance the hops. Then the finish brings back a lot more pine, but more resinous this time. Also get flavors of grapefruit zest, tangerine, grass, and more carmel sweetness and breadiness. Very balanced. Medium body with a smooth, creamy, and oily mouthfeel. The resinous pine lingers for a while on the finish. A well done ipa that is light on the wallet, not on the hops.
