Ska's 15th Anniversary beer, a bourbon barrel aged version of their excellent Euphoria. I heard about this one from a friend, and after striking out at several good liquor stores, I figured it was brewery only and I would be denied. Much to my surprise, I saw this one on the shelf tonight at Argonaut on Colfax in Denver, and I picked up a couple bottles.

Pours a medium ruby color with a good finger of taupe head. Great aromas up front, grapefruit, tangerine and bourbon. Similar on the palate, and it really works. The more I sip, the more I like it. At $7.99/bomber, it is quite a bit more pricey than the $9.99/six pack of regular Euphoria, but the more I drink, the more I think it might be worth it.

this is a rad beer for a lot of reasons, on tap at spruce tap on blake street. from what i understand, its euphoria aged in a bourbon barrel. i love how there is all this bourbon character, char and vanilla and everything, but it doesnt come at the expense of the hops of the base beer. you never see bourbon and hops, so this is a nice treat. its also cool that the beer isnt 10% abv of something, and stays drinkable here at under 7% abv. frothy in look, caramel colored and clear, lace as it drinks, and a ton of bourbon and oak on the nose and taste. hops balance in the finish, and the mouthfeel is so pillowy and soft from both plenty of body and delicate carbonation. really enjoyable stuff from ska, its nice to see a lot of their less common beers around lately. this one is darn good, i could sip on these all day. perfect for winter too.

22 oz. Bomber
Best By: May 27 17

Poured into a tulip a clean/clear dark golden amber color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/foamy three-finger off-white head, which leaves some nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, kinda malty, with some slight citrus, bourbon/oak. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, citrusy, with some nice bourbon/oak note. Medium body, ABV hidden pretty well, with a nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty nice brew, has a nice Belgian feel to it.

22 oz. bottle, with some sort of bottling information etched into the glass. A new one to me from Ska Brewing Co., acquired at the local beer store. "Bourbon Barrel-Aged Euphoria Pale Ale" "Celebrating 10 years of hand-crafted collaboration in the mighty San Juans". Not one, but two layers of wax cover the bottle cap. Red & blue wax.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - It pours a nice deep blood orange body with hues of red in there. Some sediment noticeable in the glass. One finger of frothy creamy off-white head that leaves behind excellent thin lacing. Looks very nice.

S - The aroma is very nice - extremely complex and well layered. Waves of tropical oranges, tangerines, mangos, a hint of bready doughy yeast, and then the soft intricacies of the oak wood - vanilla, caramel, notes of bourbon.

T - Taste follows the nose. The citrusy hop character is retained well, and plays nicely with the barrel-aging. Juicy oranges, tangerines, mango, and a light presence of bourbon, oak, caramel, & vanilla. I wish the bourbon barrel aging was a bit more in-your-face, but it's still a very delicious beer.

M - The feel is extremely juicy, and easy-drinking. Light in body for the style, and easy drinking with a moderate 6.20% abv. Could perhaps stand to be a bit more full in body, but still very nice.

Overall, an excellent barrel aged pale ale from Ska Brewing Co., I am very impressed. Would definitely drink this one again and again.

Bourbon Barrel Aged Euphoria Pale Ale. Blue and Red wax cover the top of the bomber. Label says "Aged and Confused."

Poured into a snifter. Odd color.
Brownish...orangish...redish. Whatever it is it looks pretty cool. Big and fluffy off white head that sticks around. Really good lacing.

Nose is very interesting. The hops are strong. Lots of grapefruit and lemon. The bourban is also apparent. It seems like the wood has made the hop aroma turn tart. Smells almost sour.

Taste is as if the hops were soaked in bourbon. Lots of sour and earthy grapefruit. The barrel does indeed give the beer some tartness. Booze sticks to your breath.

This is very carbonated. Almost too many bubbles. The seem to distact from the taste. Drinkability is just okay. Flavors are so strong I wish I would have split the bottle with someone.

Overall I did enjoy thi one. Hard to review it as an APA. The only beer I can compare it to is Great Divide 15th Anniversary. This is less boozy and not as heavy.

On-tap at Flying Saucer during their 11th anniversary, served in a tulip glass a crisp copper with a decent khaki head that lasts a thin layer and leaves a bit of lacing on the glass. Aroma is a bit of oak in front of pine hops. The taste is an interesting blend of sweet malts, sweet fruits, oak and citrus hops, an interesting blend of flavors that dance on the tongue. The beer is light bodied with decent carbonation. For a 6% barrel aged beer, this one holds up better than most, nicely done!

On tap. Pours a light brown color, nice head. Taste was somewhat on the thin side for a bourbon aged beer. Not a lot of bourbon. Kind of disappointing.

Handsome amber color with a nice pile of foam in the Zunft Kölsch glass. Mouthfeel is sharp and tangy with a prickle of carbonation. Very fragrant with the woody barrel scent.

Flavor is distinctly woody with a salty note. Really thin and zingy. Totally silly, but it's luxuriously aromatic. Hops at the finish are quite nice, still more aromatics, and just a little bitter.

This is something of a novelty, but it's quite drinkable for half a glass, anyway. I can only say that it's not worth half of the $14 paid for it. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottlecraft in San Diego.
