Had this one in The Smiling Jack club in Lleida during my stay in Catalunya. A nicely designed bottle.

A: Copper/yellow color with a tiny white head

S: Sweet malts with some fruity notes. A bit thin.

T: Malts, sweetness which is best defined by caramel (might also come from the use of corn). Red fruits make this brew special. Hint of citrus.

M: Medium/high carbonation with a pleasant bosy that fits this beer.

D: Had this one for 2 nights in a row at the same club. Will surely drink this one again on my return to Lleida, but will not do any effort to find this beer in Holland.

Poured a not-excited gold with a foamy head.

Smells of mild malt, fruit, some hop.

Mouthfeel is a touch chewy for a basic lager, a little thicker than what I'd expect from a cerveza, and in a good way.

First taste is corn, but not adjunct corn, like the real-deal maize. Some tiny hop bite, a whiff of alchohol and a very refreshing finish.

A good brew. A welcome departure from standard macros.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of April 2013. The embossed green bottle is uncommonly fancy for a lager - it seems to imply higher quality (although the ingredient list mentions maize).

Poured into a straight pint glass. A deep amber colour with medium carbonation and some slight floating sediment. Forms a large head of creamy white foam with decent stability; this slowly subsides to a patchy surface layer. Aroma of light malt with notes of harsh stewed leaves, overdone veg, corn and a hint of sulphur in the background. Deteriorates as it warms.

Tastes of light malt with a dry finish. Notes of stewed leaves, overcooked veggies, solvent and corn. Rather harsh and astringent, with a hint of cardboard and slick, solventy booze in the background. A dry bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, oily and tingly, with decent body. Somewhat acrid; dries the palate. Aftertaste of stewed leaves/veg/corn and alcohol.

Not very nice. A crappy lager with lots of unpleasant off-flavours and excessive booze. It's strength doesn't improve anything. It gets worse as it warms, but it wasn't good to begin with. Don't let the classy bottle deceive you - this is best avoided.

Another one of those import beers that I only seem to have when faced with the corresponding ethnic food, in this case, tapas always seems to match well with a '1925'. The stylish 330ml green bottle, with mucho raised type, informs us ahead of time that it's made with corn. Good to know, I guess.

This beer pours a clear, medium golden amber hue, with lots and lots of puffy, foamy, and frothy bone-white head, which leaves a consistent ring of tightly webbed lace around the glass as it slowly abates.

It smells of bready, crackery pale grain, a mild corn sweetness, nutty yeast, a bit of floral honey, and somewhat skunky grassy, leafy hops. The taste is gritty, bready caramel malt, husky corn mash, more floral, earthy honey, still fairly skunky vegetal hops, and a moderately strong alcohol warming.

The carbonation is average, just a tame frizzante character throughout, the body a pretty solid medium weight for the style, and plainly smooth, the alcohol taking its standard measure of flesh here. It finishes on the sweet side, muddled malt and alcohol carrying on through the siesta, alongside some unwelcome and persistent vegetal skunkiness.

Cool bottle aside, this prime candidate for being light-struck seems to have had its ticket punched, as such. Too bad, since I remember liking this a lot more in the past, but perhaps it was really the heat of the summer day, and the long-awaited paella.

Alibi Room special import. Perfumy hops, then something off, or rotten later on in. Creamy head, creamy and also grainy mouthfeel. Above average carbonation. Drinkable and my rating is good for this one. Tigglmtl insists it is skunked and so could be.

Alhambra Reserva 1925
500 ml green glass bottle

Appearance: Clear, amber-copper body beneath a full head of frothy white foam that holds quite well and leaves some very nice lacing about the glass.

Aroma: Malty with caramel and background notes of sweet bread. Subtle grassy hops. It's not bold but neither is it hard to find. Pleasant. Surprisingly not skunked given the green glass bottle.

Flavor: As the aroma indicates in every way. It's kind of like a malty Vienna lager with it's caramelish malt and mildly grassy, floral, and gently spicy (alcohol?) hops. A stiff bitterness anchors it and it finishes dry, subtly spicy, and lingering.

Mouthfeel: Medium-full in body with a dextrinous edge and a crisp, gently effervescent carbonation that softens to smooth as it warms.

Overall: The bottle makes a great impression, and the beer has some depth of character to it. Pleasant and enjoyable.

exp 5/31/12

A: Foamy and healthy head with lots of rising carbonation. Medium gold and transparent.

S: Very weak in smell. Actually hints of lime. Bits of grass, but very very weak.

T: Metallic, but also a fairly weak flavor. Higher alcohol is detectable but not negative. Grassy. But fairly neutral, a hair sour.

M: Watery.

O: The taste is Ok, but the rest really doesn't stand up.

Pours gold with a small head.
Slightly skunky aroma with some grassy and spicy hops alongside biscuity and grainy malt.
Flavours are a little harsher but retain some of the spicy hops and grainy malt. Some cardboard notes.

Bottle: Poured a ginger-ale color lager with large bubble and a medium head with average retention. Very strange looking beer. Aroma of malt and crisp hops is clearly identifiable and no trace of skunk even though green bottle had to travel 3000 miles. Taste is quite refreshing with very fresh and crisp hops. Easy to distinguish from a pale lager and quite refreshing.

A: The beer is crystal clear amber yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: Light aromas of pale malts are present in the nose along with subtle hints of corn and grassy hops.
T: The taste follows the smell and is mostly dominated by light flavors of malts. There is a light amount of bitterness, which masks any traces of sweetness. Slight bits of grassy hops are also noticeable.
M: It feels medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is relatively easy to drink because it doesn't feel that heavy on the palate and does a very good job at masking any traces of alcohol from the taste. Despite the green bottle, no skunk is evident. It's not a bad lager, except that it can be considered a little bland.
