Been in Auckland 2x now and both times have been in Shakespeare.
Pretty central location in the CBD and only a few blocks from Sky Tower and Circular Quay. It does have a 24 hour license and does have accommodation that is reasonable. I chose to stay at another hotel both times and was a block from the hotel.

A-- Honestly kind of dingy and more of a workers type atmosphere and what was in there... A lot of lawyers and corporate people. Go Figure. Night time gets more seedy but can have a decent conversation with locals or other tourists. Has pool tables and that is a plus.

S-- It is New Zealand!!! Makes Australia look like the USA in terms of service. Bartenders would rather play pool than serve you a beer.

S-- Tap beers are workable and decent. Grand Cru is good at 11% ABV. Have a few other NZ beers available and also had Tui on tap. Do not get Tui though. Wine selection is ordinary and so the the spirits. On the pricy side but cheaper than what you see in Sydney. Beer styles are more British.

F-- Menu was just not interesting. Get some chips or peanuts. Better food options only a few blocks away in the Quay.

V-- Not bad beer and open at 3 AM is a plus. Service is poor though. Better than going to the Belgian Beer Cafe only a few blocks away. Reasonable in price because the NZ dollar is not worth much so there is bang for your buck if you are from the USA or from Australia. Like the place but would stay elsewhere and would eat elsewhere.

Like this little place. Interesting old pub building. Didn't try any of their own beers, but it was quiet and a pleasant place for a beer. Some road works nearby, which I hope will be completed by the next time I am in NZ.

Pub is in a good location of the Auckland CBD. it is located in an old building that gives it a bit of character. It trys to give a bit of an old style pub but could use some help. They had 3 of their own beers on tap with the rest being Montieth’s. The beers were fairly run of the mill for theiir style, The menu has your basic pub grub selection but nothing I was interested in. On the plus side it was a good place to be stranded during a rainy Auckland afternoon

A good place to stay in Auckland, especially if you love beer. It's certainly not great beer, but it's pretty good, the place has a good atmosphere, and the location is great.

Right in the middle of downtown Auckland, just a couple of blocks from the Sky Tower, great old hotel, with a tiny brewery bar on the ground floor.

Quality is above average, nice British Style sessionable brews on tap.

Service was very good. Very helpful, friendly, and prompt.

Food is decent pub grub.

Value is ok, beers were a tad pricey, but the food was fairly priced.

Certainly a place to check out if you find yourself in downtown Auckland.
