In a town noted for its German heritage and accompanying faux-biergartens, this should be the destination of choice for BAs.

Located on Main Street among all the curio shops and restaurants, this place includes a restaurant and adjoining biergarten that spans the length of the establishment (additional parking in back). On good days, the canvas is tied open so there is a free-flowing breezeway and a view of foot- and auto-traffic. Room for a band in back.

A good selection of brews is available, 8 taps and somewhere around 70 bottled. All the good German standards (which, surprisingly, is not a given in this town) along with a few I hadn't encountered before. Staff seems somewhat knowledgeable and friendly enough.

Didn't try the food but it was recommended to me independently by someone else in town while I was here.

I was fairly excited to visit Fredericksburg, a "German" town in Texas, but even more-so to stop in at a biergarten! Unfortunately the size of the biergarten didn't quite live up to my expectations, but overall it's a fairly nice, charming place and it felt comfortable and welcoming. On to the beer...

12 taps with a fairly decent selection, although I opted for a bottle of Pedernales Lobo Negro as I hadn't yet tried any of their beers. My wife went for the Hacker-Pschorr Dunkel-Weiss on tap, which was served in the proper glass.

We split a half order of the beer battered mushrooms (which was more than enough for two!) and she had the Opa's sandwich and I had the Schnitzel burger. Having fairly recently returned from Germany and Austria they were both a little bit of a let down, but what do you expect? Given the chance I'd go back again and probably be much happier without the expectations I'd brought with me the first time.

The service was pretty good, certainly a bit better than average, and I can't complain.

I'm looking forward to returning one day.

Contrary to some other reviews, this place has 12 taps (maybe they are new - i don't know) on a glycol system. Nice selection of German beers (it IS a German town) and even Chimay on tap, which is unheard of for a town this size. About 70 bottle beers, good enough selection to find a couple you like, no matter what style. Atmosphere here is great - semi-outside/biergarten - good for all weathers I suppose, but damn fine when its 70 and sunny! They have a dining room inside (which is really neat - pretty authentic bavarian lodge kinda place) and the food is better than average.

Apparently this place sells more New Belgium Sunshine Wheat than anyone else in the country (according to bartender AND some local customers who were indeed drinking Sunshine Wheat). Not a stretch I suppose, as it is the lightest beer they have on tap (lots of Spatens, Franziskaners, Warsteiners, etc.) and they do seem to have a good relationship with the Fort Collins Brewery.

Overall, best BEER place I have found in Fredericksburg. No liquor here, so you can take your beer with you and walk down the street. Good food and good atmosphere. Certainly recommend.

I really did enjoy my time here. It is a place that I can hang out all day. Though this is not a top notch beer bar in the beer geek sense. There are lots of sections here. The typical bar, a restaurant area and a biergarten as well. Very cozy, welcoming, and relaxing bar.

The selection is pretty typical for a German themed bar and town. There are about 8 taps with a decent bottle selection. Plenty of Spaten and Paulaner that are the obligatory German offerings. New Belgium Sunshine Wheat as well (which is the biggest seller). Some Chimay White on tap as well. Not a bad selection, but standard. The quality is good. One of the bar patrons said the Paulaner Hefe tasted like fresh bananas. That is a sign of good quality.

The service is good. They have a strange since of humor, which might be a bit off putting to some. Though they know their stuff, and are very friendly.

Besides appetizers I did not eat. Though the potato skins with German sausage, sauerkraut, red cabbage and covered in melted Swiss was awesome. I will refrain from grading until I have had some more offerings.

Overall, a very nice place to grab a beer. It is just past the Fredericksburg Brewery, and a good place to start a pub crawl. Without a doubt, this is worth a visit.

Everything was good at this restaurant except the service. The waitress messed up my first beer order and I had to order 4 beers for my second in order to get one they were not, "Out of". The food was excellent and the prices were right however. They have recently re-done the place but this was my first visit and I didn't think it was as nice as some of the other restaurants in town.

The potato soup was very good, and I had the Jagerschnitzel which was excellent. I would go back to this place again only if I didn't want to have a nice beer with my meal.
