The first Lithuanian beer, brewed since 1995, which has received international recognition along with a number of top awards. Bright gold in colour and with a thick foam on the glass Ekstra has gained its wide popularity for its balanced flavour which is enlivened with slight bitterness of hops. Once introduced, Švyturio Ekstra has become the most popular draft beer in Lithuanian restaurants and pubs as it is delivered to bars unpasteurized or live.

Thanks to Vaidas for providing this bottle, adding Lithuania to my map. Švyturys Ekstra is a sparkling, slightly hazy, light golden lager with a thin, dense, waxy white head that fades pretty quickly, but leaves a little lacing on the glass. The aroma is bit muted, but slightly sweetened with round, light malt. There are notes of lemon, hay, soft grass and medicine. It is light bodied and a bit chalky and alkaline in the mouth. It's actually not too watery. This beer tastes a lot boozier than it is. There is a strong fusel taste, followed by corn, solvent and black pepper. The hops almost come through at the finish with their soft grassiness, but the toll of the alcohol(s) drowns everything out. This kind of tastes like a 40. I could see drinking this in a dimly lit place, while chain smoking.

Can pour into a tulip glass.
Golden clear appearance with a sparse lazy film of head. Bitter, grain, malt, horse blanket. Light body and light carbonation.

I paid $1.89 USD for a can of Švyturys Ekstra which I purchased in Glendale/California/USA.
Look: Švyturys Ekstra had no real amount of bubbles or foam.
Smell: Švyturys Ekstra had an aroma typical of beers brewed from fermented grains.
Taste: Švyturys Ekstra had a watery taste.
Feel: Švyturys Ekstra was basically flat and nearly devoid of bubbles.
Overall: People who enjoy drinking watery flat beer should seek out Švyturys Ekstra.

From Lithuania, 1784...brewed with barley and rice. English on the label, which is great.

Beautiful light hoppy, ricey aroma...perfect for a hot day I reckon...even though it isn't.

Light and refreshing...easy to drink fast. Hot a huge amount of hops, but well balanced and a subtle dry bitterness.

Not a huge amount of flavour, but I like the dry balanced bitterness and the pure refreshing taste.

A simply gorgeous beer; clear, golden body; excellent carbonation; thick and rocky head, white and dense. Sweet and gently toasted malt nose; mild spicy hop note. The taste mixes a gentle malt sweetness with a somewhat bold hop bitterness; light herbal notes. Medium body; crisp; a soft dryness throughout.

Here's a beer where one would love to have a fresh sample of. As an import, who knows how long its been bottled or under what conditions, yet it is extremely drinkable.

Poured at 57.4 °F; no decipherable bottling date uncovered on the label.

L: always liked the look of pale lagers. This one looks very refreshing.
S: grain sweet corn a little skunk about what is should be.
T: first swallow is skunk but it gives way to some really firm bitterness that submarines the sweetness in the smell. I gulped it. I like it.
F: much better than anticipated. I did not discern it as too watery but still very thirst quenching.
O: seems the scores are polarized. I’m on the high end. It has to be ice cold on a hot day and it works really well. Goes with a slickness. I think it is really well done. Would definitely revisit if the mood strikes me. In fact, I wish I had another right now.

Pours a crystal clear straw color. Thin one to two finger white head forms on the beer before quickly dissipating leaving just a thin residual layer of bubbly foam on top of the beer. It appears rather effervescent giving it a nice crisp appearance.

The aroma upon opening is initially rather skunky, but that settles down and notes of sweet doughy malts come through. There are some notes of tangy yeast, and very subtle light herbal hoppy notes.

Taste has notes of sweet bread, yeasty notes, but kind of watery. A strong earthy bitterness comes through on the back end. Kind of sweet, with some light grainy notes.

Feel is medium bodied, somewhat, for lack of a better term, syrupy? Bright carbonation, but not particularly bright or crisp.

Overall its a mediocre euro lager - the flavors are cleary muted and there is too much sweetness to it. I didn't particularly find it all that enjoyable to drink, and probably wouldn't again.

A beer without a definite, loose character, a product to quench thirst. There is no need to look for anything special or from the country of origin. A disappointment

Pours clear, gold in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is wheat with medicinal and earthy hops. Light bodied, slightly bitter, moderate carbonation. Couple sips and I am good. Not a clean lager. Cannot get past medicinal taste. A hard pass--reminds me of Baltika Extra 9 without the alcohol punch.

Brilliantly clear gold, white head, nice retention and lace
Light herbal/floral hops, honey and bread malt aromas
Sweet bready malt, a touch of fruitiness, herbal and spicy hops, firm malt and bitterness
Medium light bodied, appropriate carbonation
I like it.

Appearance:
Pours a straw yellow and displays a sheet white head that's as tiny as it is temporary.

Bouquet:
A dainty aroma of wheat coupled with an equally delicate scent of dried hay.

Feel:
A light body that's crisp and airy but has enough gravity to avoid feeling like a diet beer. Harbors a fleet of cotton soft bubbles that caress the tongue with a shy, feather-light touch.

Taste:
Wheat cracker with a restrained drizzle of clover honey.

Overall:
A light lager that's marginally better than ok, and could be nice on a hot summer day.

Despite its demure simplicity, Ekstra is notably better than most run-of-the-mill muck like Natty Boh, Blue Moon, and other disgraceful, corporate garbage that occupies the same tier.
