This place is impressive. I'm definitely going to tell some friends about this one. The hours are a little wonky and you feel like you are going into the dungeon of lost children (you go through the owner's daycare to get there) but when you get to the end, the small room has anything and everything you could want.
The owner was super helpful and had everything and more that I wanted. From what I could tell, if he doesn't have something you want, then he will find a way to get it for you. Since I am working on my first batch of mead, I didn't really get a look at what they have for beer supplies, but he had everything I needed as far as supplies are concerned.
I am so glad I found this place, I will definitely be going back. Oh, and I almost forgot, everything is very fairly priced. It was what I was saw as far as pricing online, even a few things that I didn't that were even cheaper than I expected. And the best part is that now I don't have to do all my shopping online or pay the excessive shipping that has happened with the rise in gas prices.
Thanks again to the owner and I hope many others will get a chance to find this little gem.
This is a hidden gem of a homebrew store. Service is excellent as well as the selection. If they don't have something that you need, it will be ordered for you on the spot (even if it's just a packet of yeast or hops)! It's a comfortable and relaxed place. I found that if you bring in a bottle of whatever you make, you even get a 10% discount! This is a place where brewers and winemakers of all abilities can come together, relax, discuss brewing and beer and even have a good time. I went in to pick up some yeast, and stayed for more than an hour talking with the owner and other brewers. I brought in some of my beer and received constructive criticism from 4 other brewers! I have become a better brewer because of the brewlab and have made a lot of friends here. The only downside is the hours. It's only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This place is a must for anyone interested in brewing.
While I was scouring the yellow pages of the local telephone book, I came across this little gem. Located in what is considered the West End of Allentown, The Brewlab operates relatively quietly in the Lehigh Valley. In fact, if it were not for finding it in the Yellow Pages, I probably would not have even known it existed. The owner, you will find, is extremely helpful in all aspects of the brewing process. I was in the neighborhood. and figured I would drop in to see what they had to offer. On the outside, the place is relatively unassuming, however, they are respectably stocked with just about everything you need to get started, and even a good bit of materials and ingredients for the advances homebrewer. One word of caution...call ahead. The Brewlab's hours of operation can fluctuate, and they are not open all days of the week, so if you are planning to drop in, do yourself a favor and call first, as they also have hours by appointment, to fit your schedule. Once I start the homebrew process, this is one place I will definately revisit.
