I'll have to say this didn't drink to it's size. That's not a negative, just an observation. In total not as fruity and refreshing as I tend to like my saisons and not as dry either, but having stated that, it still was a fine beer for a very nice evening.
Quite cloudy and a fair amount of lacing, often showing drink lines. Cloudy and more towards gold. At first showed a sweetness and some herbal. As it warmed this went away and the wheat and spice showed up. Became drier as it warmed to, not being that dry at all at first and somewhat later. Did have a bigger feel which probably reduced it's quenching qualities.
I enjoyed this. Good and solid.

Poured into a goblet: color is gold, nice off white head that presents 1/2 inch thick then dissipates to a thick ring on the glass with some lacing on the glass.

Smell is a bit sweeter than some saisons, but there is some good saison spiciness, esters and phenols from the yeast fermenation; malt is is sweet, but not overpowering.

Taste is also sweet, malt flavor is blended with some sweetness from the fermentation; malt are simple clean pils, hops are earthy and crisp, yeast off flavors are light phenol, pepper, some clove and ester. Flavors are enjoyable, a little sweet for a saison, but good profile.

Mouthfeel is a bit sweet, lingerin sweetness outweighs dryness from the fermentation, and many saisons are more balanced. Still enjoyable and not a detractant.

Overall, a very good, and slightly different style for Long Trail. Good flavors, presentation and aroma, but could use some clean, dry mouthfeel to take it to the next level.

A-a light golden color with three fingers worth of rocky white head

S-pale bready malt, spices, yeast, and citrus

T-taste is similar to the smell, pale bready backbone with citrus, spices, yeast, and slightly bitter

M-medium body with moderate to high carbonation

Overall not the funkiest of Saison's but still very nice. I like the barrel series that Long Trail is doing.

A: Poured from the bomber-bottle into a Piraat tulip/snifter-type glass. Body is clear golden with a 1-finger white head. Some lacing.

S: Yeasty, bready and lemony. Touch of fruit.

T: Cereal grain foundation, some ripe fruit (grapes and apples), slight earthiness and a lemony finish. Modest heat from the ABV is felt at the end of the sip and lingering on the back of the palate. Lemony bitterness remains in the aftertaste, attempting to cut through the sweeter flavors.

M: Medium in heft with good carbonation levels. Hint of slickness at times.

O: Too sweet and not dry enough to be the type of Saison I prefer, but it's not bad.

This was an accidental gift from my sister, and a damn good one.

It was a bright, glowing straw color and it poured with an airy, massive white head that wouldn't go away.

I had a Hennepin the other night, one of my benchmark saisons and this reminded me of it. High Praise. Soft and fruity overall rather than crisp and dry, I found lots of banana and pear esters plus a powdery, candy-like sweetness. There was a nice lingering mineral bitterness. Lush and full bodied on the palate, this bomber won't last long. Great stuff from Long Trail. Thanks BBB!

Poured out of a 1.6 ounce bottle into a tall wheat beer glass served cool

Somewhat cloudy straw gold body with a nice thick sticky white head

Spicy clove front some floral some earth smell

Spicy herbaceous front flavor. Fruit lingers near the end some slightly medicinal aftertaste

Light mouth feel

A nice enjoyable beer some enjoyable complexity might be a little bit too strong and alcohol

Long Trail Brewing Co. - Brush & Barrel Series - Saison, poured into a Lawson's tulip.

Look - Pale straw wheat with a touch of amber and a small foamy head that dissipates quickly and leave some lacing.

Smell - Aroma is light with lemon, coriander, and banana. Sickly sweet.

Taste - Taste is clean and refreshing. Fruity but not overly so, this is a non-sour saison for sure. Some pepper, mild, phenolic but not as much as some of the brett bombs I have had.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with balanced carbonation. Rests juicy subtle citrus borderline tropical (think mango or cantaloupe) but not at all hoppy. Rests slight warm malt and fades slowly.

Overall - This is a good non-brett saison that comes across as slightly cloying but makes up for it with an almost creamy tropical fruit taste that is intriguing.

From the 2014 batch. Sampled on March 28, 2014.

This has a slight foggy pale yellow pour with a short-lived white head. Decent carbonation.

The aroma is wonderfully traditional for the style with its Belgian biscuit malts, Belgian yeast, coriander, clove, and slight citrus backdrop.

The body is light to medium.

The taste is much like the aroma with the same yeast, malts, and spice character but the peppery finish and grass kick in to give this a modest, bitter finale. This is worth trying once.

22oz poured into goblet. Bottle number 3460 8?

A-Golden straw body with nice clarity. Just shy of being perfectly clear. A light fluffy head formed that leaves nice lacing and had decent retention.

S-Clove and dough first come to mind then a slight mint/herbal presence with banana peel/mild spice character finishing it out.

T-The taste is herbal, estery, sweet mixed with clove. Lots of flavor coming from the yeast just as a saison should be. Not a particular fan of this yeast though.

M-Medium bodied saison with decent effervescence. Finishs with an herbal dry finish.

O-A beautiful looking saison that just does not do it for me in smell/taste. Yeast is the main driving factor of any saison and I just do not prefer the flavor profile developed by the yeast. The hops add a nice herbal/earthy character to the flavor/aroma and the malt bill keeps the hops in balance with a dextrin body. Happy to have picked this beer up and would like to try this beer fresh.

Hazy blonde color with a finger or more of sudsy white foam. Has a lemony glow to it. Charming.

Sparkly spiciness with a familiar lemony scent of citrus and farmhouse yeast spunk. Lightly peppery with a hint of grated coriander. Very delicate aromas showcasing the yeast, the implied fruit, and a hint of herbal hops.

Very spicy, plus lemon. Crispy, especially with the intensity of the carbonation. Notes of soap, tangerine peel, and coriander. A typical, if not, my kind of craft saison. A nice soft body promotes enjoyment, while delicate flavors and balance denote a precise effort.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip
A: Pale orange with a tall 2+ finger head
S: sweet malt, sweet fruit esters and some Belgian yeast
T: Again sweet malt, fruity, a bit of banana, clove and yeast
M: Medium-bodied with pleasant, sweet carbonation
O: A solid, straightforward example of the style. Bonus points for the beautiful label. My only preference would be slightly less sweetness

Served in a pint glass at Estelles in Boston.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pale yellow color with good clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Spicy, floral, powdery, vanilla, and bready.

Taste: Same as above. A little bitterness and really smooth.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, refreshing, a little dry, medium to high carbonation, and light to medium bodied.

Overall: Pretty nice saison. I'll try it again sometime.
