this is an outstanding saison, one that has been stowed away in my cellar for at least a couple of years, and has aged very gracefully down there. one of the only saison types i have had from these guys, its killer beer. a slightly hazy but still radiant yellow golden color with a tall creamy white head that sticks around awhile. it smells peppery and dry, a little funky but in the absence of wild yeasts, and has a soft fruity white grape sort of profile to it as well, beautiful stuff. the yeast may be a french type saison, but with an apparently cooler fermentation temperature here, the esters are not going crazy and there is no sharpness, maybe thats mellowed over time, but i suspect this was delicious and balanced when it was fresh too. with the peppery spice from the yeast i almost have to conclude there is some rye malt in here, but i think its just wheat and pale barley, there is just a nice layering and sort of perfect integration of the various elements in the flavor. some nice floral and bitter hops have hung around well too, and the finish here is somewhat hoppy for the style, and very very very dry. carbonation is very active here, i found this dangerously easy to drink, extremely refreshing, hearty and grain driven but also with a very cool yeast profile. a really delicious beer, no need for fruit, barrels, or wild yeasts here. i wish they would bring this one back into the rotation...

This was an accidental gift from my sister, and a damn good one.
It was a bright, glowing straw color and it poured with an airy, massive white head that wouldn't go away.
I had a Hennepin the other night, one of my benchmark saisons and this reminded me of it. High Praise. Soft and fruity overall rather than crisp and dry, I found lots of banana and pear esters plus a powdery, candy-like sweetness. There was a nice lingering mineral bitterness. Lush and full bodied on the palate, this bomber won't last long. Great stuff from Long Trail. Thanks BBB!

From bottle, poured a light yellow golden colour with a nice cap of white head. Good retention. Slightly cloudy with good effervescence.
S- floral esters, pears, creamy yeast aromas, earthy hay notes, some acetyl notes potentially, clean pale malt. Good balance of floral and earthy esters.has some medicinal notes.
T- sharpness on the start, with an assertive carbonation, bitter hop notes and some coriander spice, fruity esters and a lot of yeast influence, ending a bit dry and with a lingering aftertaste of poached pears and spice. As it warms some more grainy sweetness comes out, overall it's not bad.
M- assertive and full bodied, alcohol remains subdued though, but this saison does have some bite to it. Good carbonation.
Has a lot of flavour but also some elements that either don't fit in well or are slightly unpleasant. Some could be a result of a higher strength, but it doesn't seem to be a fine tuned saison, some odd medicinal flavours stick out but over all it is a pleasant beer, not my favourite saison though.

A: slight haze; light gold in color; 1 finger white head that receded quickly to a very thin collar; very little lacing;
S: coriander, orange peel, a touch of spice; a little lemon; as it warms, the hops begin to show - a little grainy - and the fruit really comes out - orange and lemon;
T: the flavor explodes in your mouth; coriander and orange peel are there, but the real star is citrus - orange and lemon - a nice tartness; as it warms, some banana comes out toward the finish, along with a touch of black pepper;
M; light to medium bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish; crisp; coats your tongue;
O: really complex - my note taking couldn't keep up; every time it warmed, there was more to taste and smell; really impressive;
