Crafted to commemorate 25 years of brewing, Long Trail’s limited edition 25th Anniversary Ale is a barrel-aged stout that weighs in at 9% ABV.

We blended a bourbon barrel-aged batch of our recently retired Brewmaster Series Imperial Porter with a rye whiskey barrel-aged iteration of Culmination, our dark chocolate porter released under the Brush & Barrel Series.

A ‘young’ batch of Imperial Stout was brewed and blended with the barrel-aged beers to infuse a fresh, roasty character.

The beer combines a mellowness drawn from long aging on wood with the bright flavor of fresh stout to create a complex beer fit for celebrating 25 trailblazing years of Vermont craft brewing.

22oz bottle sealed in red wax with a hang tag. Served in a tulip. Pours one shade shy of black with a foamy, half inch, tan-colored head. Head eventually settles into a creamy, soapy slick. Spots and swaths of lacing are present during the tasting. Nose expresses cocoa, ethanol and hints of coconut. Flavor profile suggests that this beer is a little past its prime - vinous notes (and not in a good way) and oxidation. Cocoa present in the nose is all but gone. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body (but closer to light) with a mild acidity and a light, even carbonation. Overall, a bit disappointing. Based on the reviews, the beer held some promise; however, it's definitely past its prime.
