A: opaque; very dark brown - virtually black; 2 finger dark tan head that receded to a thin cap; very nice lacing;

S: slightly sour; milk chocolate;

T: roasted grains; some bittersweet chocolate toward the end; mild bitterness on the finish;

M: medium to full bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: for me, the sourness in the aroma was tough to get past;

Pours a deep brownish black color with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and some alcohol, there are some ester flavors giving off fruity notes. The flavor has an acrid thing going on a bit too high on alpha acids leaving it almost tart, when it shouldnt be. Roasted aroma hinting at coffee, earthy is a good way to describe, hops taste faded. Sadly overall just an average taste at best. Its a pretty good beer that could have been great.

Poured into Duvel tulip. Bottleneck says 01/15/16.

A- Pours a mostly opaque black color with a 1/4 inch light brown head that retains a bit before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a large center patch of surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves tiny specs behind.

S- Milk chocolate and vanilla aroma brings to mind malted milk balls.

T- Heavy roast that's not that pleasant. Kind of acrid and burnt tasting. Dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, but both don't have a high quality to them. There's also some hop bitterness to go along with the heavy-handed roast bitterness but isn't very complementary. Bitter aftertaste.

M- The only decent part of the beer. Creamy and viscous with medium carbonation and a full body.

O- Glad I didn't pay money for this since it's not my idea of a good stout. There's no balance here and, while it's decently easy to drink given the ABV, I would pass if offered again. lacking character.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams glass. Pours black with a thin tan head. Malty smell with a sweet almost chocolate background. Slightly smoky flavor, malty, and fruity.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark brown color and an opaque consistency. There was a small amount of foamy, tan-colored head that quickly dissipated. Not a whole lot of lacing.

S: A fair aroma of malt, coffee, chocolate, and brown sugar. Slightly underwhelming.

T: Tasted of a bit of chocolate (could have used more), some brown sugar, lots of roasted malt, a definite lactose presence, light coffee notes, a little caramel, and light hops. Like the aroma, the flavor was something of a letdown. None of the ingredients was forceful enough. Might have gotten an old bottle here.

F: A decent amount of carbonation with a super dry finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is an unfortunately uneven beer. Not terrible, but forgettable.

This is perhaps the driest stout I have ever had, and impressively so. As it's name may imply, the flavor is quite dry and more earthy than anything else.
