I tried this stout from the bottle chilled in a glass.
The color is black with thick robust appearance and full beige head with fine bead, retention is very good with lace that sticks. the smell has a fruity quality with stone fruit aroma and mild hint of anise-like spice with a subtle hop an dark malt smell. The feel is very good with mild roast and sweetness level with moderately bitter presence and mild alcohol with a dry finish.

The taste is like dark chocolate with some spiciness from yeast and moderately bitter hop presence in the taste. The malt has a subtle roasted quality with slight yeast giving a smooth foundation for the hops. The alcohol is mild in the taste however the finish is dry and spicy. Overall this is a very good stout -quaffable with nice complexity.

On tap in a pint glass.

Black on top of opaque black color with a thin mocha-brown colored head. heavy sheets of lacing.

First aroma is of strong coffee. Then come the aromas of molasses, dark chocolate, and heath bar; all developing as it warms. Pleasant sweetness.

Coffee, cocoa, toffee, and roast malt flavors. Earthy and woody.

Full body. Not heavy. Long lingering flavors that finish clean with a 7.9% abv.

It's more about flavor and feel rather than booze. And that's all right with me.

Black in color with no light penetration. There's a fingernail of brown on top. Heavy lacing. Sweet aroma of dark malt and lactose. I'm tasting bitter dark malt, a light smokey note and sweet lactose. The mouth is very creamy, dry, and smooth.

From the shoulder of the bottle: "10/07/16"

Appearance: It looks fantastic. The body is black and the head forms this very large, thick, brown, creamy cap. It slowly fades out to cloud-like fluffy islands and a ring but it leaves nice lacing.

Aroma: It has this nice woody aroma with a bit of pine and burnt caramel. It teeters between that pine aroma and the burnt caramel so every time I put the glass to my nose it's a coin toss.

Taste: It has this very nice sweet caramel flavor that pairs with a charcoal flavor. The caramel isn't too sweet and the charcoal isn't too bitter. Both are strong enough independently that they probably could be overpowering if not paired as well as they are together. The aftertaste is a bit minty and woody.

Mouthfeel: It is nice and smooth with a good texture. Good carbonation.

Overall: It is an outstanding beer and it was very enjoyable to drink. I highly recommend it and I would drink it again. My favorite part of the beer is the balance it achieves while simultaneously pushing the envelope in both sweetness and bitterness to deliver good flavors without sacrificing another element of flavor.

Poured into a 13 oz Weyerbacher tulip glass bottled 3/10/16. Pours a very attractive slick black with a beautiful 3 finger dark tan head that leaves stripes of lace behind.

Smell is dark chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla, caramel, molasses, leather, and a little smoke.

Taste follows nicely dark chocolate and expresso beans upfront with molasses, vanilla, and a little smoke and leather.

Mouthfeel is maybe medium, nice amount of life, fairly dry, and very approachable, but not a push over for 7.9% ABV.

Overall this is really nice, drinks bigger than its ABV. Not one dimensional at all.

pours black with minimal head. nose is not overpowering but typical for a stout. Nice roasty tones. taste is roasty up front with some toffe and caramel floating around in mix with typical roasted dark malt and maybe a touch of anaise. this is a typical straight forward stout. pretty good and I feel great for the style. I like coffee and chocholate stouts better. but with the exception of the light body this is a good stout.

12 oz bottle poured into a Savor snifter.

Pours pitch black with a finger of mocha foam. Lots of dark roasted malts in the nose. Flavor has a nice roasty sweetness, but finishes smooth, without a lot of the astringency you get in some other stouts.

This is a solid beer on all fronts. Enjoyable and well made.
