I got a bottle of this in a mixed 12pck from a PA beer store near the WV border. The beer poured a hazy orangish with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had hints of citrus peel. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink...good presence of citrus spice and pine. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a decent beer.

Had fresh on tap.

Pours the standard Long Trail well-filtered brownish amber with a decent white head that laces and retains fairly well. Grassy, earthen hops dominate both the aromas and flavors, with hints of caramel malts and bitter citrus. Feels.... like an IPA. Overall very average

Meh, another brewery attempt to jump on the mega-hops blend, juicy, tropical IPA bandwagon. Pours an attractive amber color with minimal head. I pick up mostly malt in the aroma, hops are subdued. Taste is muddled, the various hops don't amount to any sort of harmony of flavor. I get a really bothersome bubble gum taste underneath the bitterness. There's a lot of citrus overtones that dominate the taste for a moment but then the bitterness takes over. Definitely won't be buying this again. I really don't like tasting tropical fruit notes in my beer, I'd just make a smoothie if I wanted fruit. I'm going to have to make it a point to start reading the bottle before I buy to see if has descriptors such as juicy, tropical, citrusy etc.

12oz. bottle served in a shaker pint. No bottled-on date evident. Pours an orange-gold with a slight haze to the clarity and a tight, quarter inch, bright white head that eventually settles into a consistent 1/8th inch cap. Nose expresses muted notes of tropical fruit and biscuit malt. Taste is a bit weird - medicinal in the top layer and more of the muted tropical fruit quality present in the nose. There is also the start of some metallic notes beginning to develop. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body (but closer to light) with a pleasant, even carbonation. Overall - not good and bordering on a drain pour. Hopefully this is just an old bottle.

Poured from a bottle dated 051516 into a shaker pint.
A - A touch of haze, tangerine, copper in color, nice white cap.
S - Tropics mash up with a bit of pine, sweet malts, mint and grass notes
T - Hop oil, lots of fruit, pineapple, papaya, orange, and traces of conifer.
M - medium in body, more viscous that the body lets on. slick and a touch oily.
O - Big in feel, the nose is a bit convoluted, the feel is solid.
I will try this again.

This beer pours a hazy copper orange color with a 2 finger, fluffy light khaki colored head that eventually fades to a tiny ring around the edge. There are sticky, webbed hanging sheets of lacing. Smell is dank pine, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, candied orange and sweet malt. Taste is similar, but less malty than the smell. Feel is medium and resinous. Overall a great beer. Love the hop profile.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass bottled on 3/14/16. Pours an attractive orange with a half inch white head that does leave some lace.

Smell starts with fresh cut grass, papaya, tangerine, pine, and grapefruit rind.

Taste follows loads of tropical fruit, earthy hops, peppery zest, fresh cut grass, pine, and a nice grapefruit zing in the finish.

Mouthfeel is close to medium, plenty of life, a little dry, and very drinkable.

Overall this is a really nice and affordable IPA that may have just earned a position in my weekly rotation.

Bitter without much flavor. Bitterness overwhelms the flavor. Nothing to see here.

A copper color with a modest white head that left a good deal of lace.
Aroma of pine, citrus, and sweet malt. On the fainter side.
Pine resin taste, a little grapefruit. Strong malt presence.

12 oz brown bottle

Pours moderately hazed, typical amber, typical mini cap and decent looking fine scattered lacing.

Pine and hop resin nose.

More resiny hops up front, soft malts below......easy drinking and respectable, if middle of the road kinda IPA....workable sessioner, better the decent value in a everyday kinda hopped up brew

12 oz bottle from PA.
Lightly hazy golden amber colored body with a decent head.
Good hop-forward aroma promises tropical fruit flavors.
The flavor is fruity but more malty and herbal than the aroma suggests. It's also better than the aroma, and markedly harmonious for style.
Fine feel with medium body and carbonation.

A very nice hop mash up: Blaze a hoppy trail. I's Long Trail, not exactly beer geek gold. You gotta keep an open mind.....
* update review. 11/24/17.

An ever so slight haze to the golden hued copper color. Big carbonation. A sparse, white, rocky cap of foam goes down slow.* the all white foam is rocky, bubbly but thick, sea foam style. Holds on tight. Excellent and intricate lacing is thick.

There is a distinct, "Long Trail Ale" type malty aroma coming out of this IPa. Caramel or maple type malty sweetness. Otherwise, the hops get earthy, floral and resinous. Pine tree, honey and herbal side notes. * tropical pine and earthy tones with a fall seasonal, roasty and sweet malt aroma thing happening underneath.

The first sip brings in, earthy, bitter and dry leafy hop flavor, becomes slightly fruity with red fruits, sour and tangy, not citrus but more high alpha style wild fruits. The sweet, sometimes sour malty edge keeps the IPA balance a bit out of whack. Since the malty flavor is high in effect, it comes across much more like an English IPA, but with a bigger, bitter ibu.

Overall, very tangy. Sour and sweet malt adds depth but certainly not balance.

* A very earthy, sour and bitter pine hop complexity that combo's well with a much more English-style malty ipa experience. This hop foursome covers some serious ground in the hop flavor spectrum. Pine, earthy, tangy fruits, earthybitter vibes.

Long Trail Brewing Co. "Green Blaze IPA"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, coded "120216" and sampled on 022217
$2 @ Wegmans, King of Prussia, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: Nice label. 60 IBUs and 6.5% ABV, very good, sounds like a lighter style. Nice pour with a large pillowy head of off-whie rising above a hazy amber body. The head is slowly condensing and becoming more rocky. I get some resin and pine in the aroma but it's really too early to tell as there's so much head keeping the aromas in. Impressive head retention, and what appears will become some very nice lacing. Hopefully that haze is from dry hopping. Now I have to wait. OK, that took a bit. The foam split down the center but there's still a lot of creamy froth around the sides. There's still not much more in the aroma although there is a bit of lemon, lime, and tangerine. Interesting. The flavor is very much the same with a bit of gently sweet, almost toasty, biscuity malt. The lemon-lime note is really interesting, I'm not sure I've ever experienced that before. The lacing it's leaving behind is impressive: torn sheets of lace that just about cover the whole glass from where it first started on down. It's tartish and fruity upfront on the tip of the tongue, and then more piney and malty across the middle, followed by dryness and residual pine in the finish. As it warms I'm finding a bit of mango, lychee, apple, and papaya within the fruitiness, and maybe even some berry. The lemon-lime is fading though as it's less concentrated since opening up. The 60 IBUs are coming through solidly. It seems more like 70 to me. Fortunately the pine is coming through too heavily in the finish. Sometimes a lot of pine and bitterness can be a bit raspy, but I'm not finding that here. Medium bodied and somewhat creamy. Smooth. I like it. It's unique and interesting, and very drinkable while still retaining a solid IPA bitterness.
