Limbo is a fantastic beer, easily overlooked by the BA community due to being brewed by Long Trail. It was the first in what was to become an excellent lineup of new beers. This is a dry-hopped version with grapefruit and tangerines added.

Brew is a dark orange, slightly cloudy. Good head size from a strong pour; decent head retention and nice lacing.

The first aroma up front is a slightly sweet, brown sugary and bready bite of caramel malt. This is followed by a nostril-cleansing citrus scent of grapefruit and tangerines, but nothing so strong or acidic that it implies the fruit is added. Pineapple and pine are also present. Overall, the aroma is fairly restrained.

On the palate, those aromas all blend together in an interesting way. Instead of clearly defined phases of flavor, it all melds at first, yielding a hoppy, sweet, malty, citrusy, gooey profile. The second half shows the dry-hopping fairly clearly, with a touch of dankness, some pine, and very subdued citrus and tropical notes. Finish hints strongly at papaya, kiwi, and pineapple, no doubt due to the Galaxy hops.

Throughout, there is a slight citrus bite, but it is nowhere near as pronounced as in other fruited IPAs. It's barely enough to be noticed.

Could use a touch more liveliness. Excellent drinkability for a brew approaching 8%.

L: Clear, lightly bubbly copper with a fluffy, sticky white head that leaves copious lacing.

S: Sweet red grapefruit flesh, tangerine peel, hints of apricot, pineapple, and strawberry; a touch of caramel, and a hint of earth.

T: Fresh grapefruit, hints of dirty tangerine, a bit more caramel malt pushing throughout, along with a slightly toasty breadyness; lightly earthy and piney, with a moderately bitter and dry but well-rounded lingering finish of grapefruit peel.

F: Medium-bodied, smooth, almost chewy, and well-carbed.

O: Yet another citrus IPA, but not a bad one. Solid, if unexciting. Doesn't stand out, though. Get the regular Limbo IPA. So much better.

This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a sly burnt orange to amber color. Light transparency about it. Carbonation rising at a decent pace. One ring of lace sticks to the side after a finger’s worth of white foamy head dissipates. The aroma takes in some grapefruit rind bitterness. Sugary malts start off with the grapefruit rind bitterness but do have some components that don’t seem to come together. It wavers a bit, doesn’t seem to hold the bitterness in there. Apricot is there. The flavor leans sweet with the sugars, citrus pulp, and apricot. Malt residue aftertaste with a quick sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation feels very light allowing the sweetness to almost become cloying. Overall, I like regular Limbo better. The malt backbone in that seems to embrace the body better, this is borderline cloying in the feel and leans to the sweet side and doesn’t keep the bitterness to embrace the aroma.

Haven't been a huge fan of Long Trail offerings, but while this is pretty heavy on the citrus flavor, off the top of my head maybe my favorite beer from them that hasn't been a collab

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Bottled Sept 20th 2016.

Deep and crystal clear shining amber orange, with a hue of almost pink grapefruit, and dark bronze edges. Ample amounts of fine carbonation, meeting to a fluffy rich off tan colored head, three fingers easily tall. Good solid retention, ring lacing, island mountain like puck in the center, with some fine swiss cheese bubbles. Excellent looking IPA.

Hints of juiced grapefruit, and minor dank hop aroma hit real nicely. Juiced dank flavors creating a thick nearly smokey sensing experience. Faint tropical notes even hint at a little exotic, with candy like flavors minus the big sweetness and sugary quality. Great nose on this brew.

Palate really sings. Thick and oily rich hop coating mouthfeel. Mid palate smashes with excellent citurs graperfruit and orange flavors. Faint sensing caramel leaving a nice playing surface for hop action and love. Oily and zesty bursting finish of citrus, long and lingering. Juicy flavors and feel with a good dense malt backbone, almost honey and tropics washing along.

Loved regular limbo and they just made a real good counterpoint. Grapefruit Sculpin eat your heart out.

Similar to the regular Limbo IPA. A little more citrus flavor but disappointing overall. I expected more flavor and character. Not a bad beer but my search for a great grapefruit IPA continues.
