Here's another (2 out of the three that I'm gonna be reviewing tonight) variant on Long Trail's Green Blaze, this time single-hopped with Citra hops. As I've detailed in my other reviews, I'm not a huge fan of this base beer, but most of my issue has seemingly been with the hop bill. Let's see if the change to Citra fixes things.

Pours a medium amber color with a ring of head that dies down to a single finger after a bit. Great lace; more consistent than the Grapefruit Blaze variant for whatever reason. Carbonation and particles in suspension are rather similar; that is to say, pretty good looking... the whole thing comes together pretty nicely. Can't complain here really.

Nose is weirdly similar to regular Green Blaze (which I had last night), but with some slightly shifted notes. A bit more orange/tangerine and grapefruit (not as much as the grapefruit-flavored variant, obviously) but still has some earthy dankness and surprising grassy/vegetal qualities. The ripe green pepper note is still here for some reason, despite the lack of Equinox hops. Very strange.

The flavor goes in a slightly-different direction, which is interesting to me. I get a little bit of passion fruit and guava along with the grassy and dank flavors. Caramel malts and slight biscuit-y notes comes out here too. Very "green" and sticky, with a more focused and resinous profile. It's just weird that the nose and flavor on this are as incongruous as they are. Where the nose has spicy and vegetal notes, the flavor is just strangely juicy and citrusy. The cohesion here isn't really felt. A bit messy, but it does have a much better flavor than regular ol' Green Blaze.

Feel is sticky and pretty much weighs in at a solid medium, though there is some extra thickness from the malts here. Carbonation is about right, as expected, and the backend has a nominal bitterness before going down dry and citrusy. I'm glad I stuck by getting only a single of each of these because, even though two of them have been good so far, they're nowhere near making me desire multiple bottles of them.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated 02/17/17. Sampled far beyond that date on May 6, 2017.

Orange-amber pour with a long lasting off-white head and lacing on the glass.

Despite being 8 weeks old I still get an aroma with citrus, pine, and herbal characters although the sweet bready malt notes are also evident.

Soft but medium body.

The taste begins with a nice sweet toasted malt character with a mild citrus and pine hop finish. I thought it was decent but I wonder if I would have thought better of it back in March.

A decent everyday beer. Nice citra taste and scent, pours clear tastes crisp and dry goes down easy. Not a special brew but for a daily brew it is just right
