Long Trail India Pale AleLong Trail India Pale Ale

Brewed by:
Long Trail Brewing Co.
Vermont, United States

Style: English India Pale Ale (IPA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Real India Pale Ale (IPA), as it was first brewed in the days of the British Empire, was not the carefully filtered brew that we call IPA beer today. The first IPAs were unfiltered and featured extra hops and higher strength as a preservative for the long trip from England to the colony of India. Our Traditional IPA ale is naturally carbonated, dry-hopped & unfiltered like the old days.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Aroma: Bold hop bitterness. Mostly pine, some floral. Good amount of crystal malt for balance. Some faint darker sugars, cannot tell from what. Fruity esters, blood orange.

Appearance: Deep, dark gold. Filled with small black particles in suspension. Moderate bleach-white head. Good retention and lots of lacing.

Taste: Large dose of pine from the hops. A sugary kick comes in from the crystal malt. Some spicy black pepper, that's different. More grapefruit citrus that I got in the aroma.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body. Mildly chalky, but also creamy, if that makes any sense. Finishes quite dry. Carbonation is mild to moderate and packs a sharp stinging sensation.

Overall: Goes down exceptionally fast. Lots of bitter with plenty of sweetness to balance.
