Malty, slight pepper, toasty caramel throughout. A thin head with no lace. Maybe some figs, dates, and a touch of some unidentifiable fruit. Low bitterness, slightly dry, but not too much. A slightly off brown/copper color. Sweet with some cinnamon and spice. Low carbonation; Did I mention malt? A damn malt bomb! Full-bodied and boozy. Seems like a good beer for a crisp fall or winter evening. I prefer a lighter alt, but this one is worth trying at least once.

Drank from 22oz bottle in a pint glass in March 2018.

Appearance: Dark amber with a moderate & creamy tan/brown head. Head left only a little lacing on the glass.

Smell: Balanced aroma of caramel, nutmeg, toasted malts, and a little cocoa as well, but overall the caramel and nutmeg dominate the others. I do not get much hops aroma.

Taste: There is a balance between the caramel, roasted malts, and some bitterness from hops. There is a sweetness, with just a little hoppy bitterness bitterness adding some complexity.

Mouth-feel: Medium alcohol, but with a very smooth and creamy body.

This is a nice, malty ale that has a variety of flavors that adds some complexity to the beer. This is a medium-bodied brown ale, which is very smooth and enjoyable to drink. I would definitely buy this again.

Very tasty beer. I started drinking it while making my dinner and the next thing I know I'm sitting on my ass feeling really nice! Overall a very tasty beer, but I don't think I would get a case of just this beer. It definitely belongs in a variety pack (for me at least).

L: Clear amber with a small off white head that dissipates to a thin film. Little to no lacing is left behind.

S: Cooked sweet red apples and pears, caramel, toasted brown bread, hay.

T: Cooked apple and pear, brown sugar, caramel, slight cherry, toasted brown bread, and a touch of grass. Very sweet.

F: Medium-bodied, moderately carbonated. Slick with residual sugars.

O: A decent enough beer for what it is. Not something I really care for, though.

I've been enjoying this beer for 15 years or so now. This double altbier pours a dark amber/brown color with a thin coating of a bubbly head. Smell is of bready malts, but not as much as, say, a doppelbock. The taste follows suit; i get bready malts up front, a hint of caramel, and a smooth finish. Back in the day, the 7.2 ABV was fairly strong. It is well hidden on this one, and I just keep wanting to have more. This brings me back to my Vermont winters. Cheers, Long Trail. Please do not take this away for a few years like you have been with other beers in your lineup.

It pours dark orange with a hint of brown with roughly one finger of head. The aroma is malty, with faint notes of burnt bread. The taste is sweet upfront with some late but prolonged bitterness. Medium body and with some mild carbonation bite.

Picked up a bottle at the local supermarket. First time I had seen this and I have liked other Long Trail beers. Poured into a pint glass not much head or carbonation. Scent is malty faint alcohol and appearance is nice dark copper. Taste is malty and nice for sipping. Better as it warms and is exactly what is described. Not my favorite but good for a late night.

12 oz bottle from VA in a Laughing Skull glass.
Lovely copper body with great clarity but only a short head despite a aggressive pour. The head, nonetheless, has excellent retention.
Mild aroma with obvious alcohol.
Surprisingly full and complex flavor has hints of toffee, vanilla, honey, and brown sugar. Somme roasted nuts appear in the moderately bitter aftertaste.
Smooth and full bodied feel where the high ABV is partly hidden.
