Notes / Commercial Description:
This malty, full-bodied double alt is also known as “Stickebier” – German slang for “secret brew”. Long Trail Double Bag was originally offered only in our brewery taproom as a special treat to our visitors. With an alcohol content of 7.2%, please indulge in moderation. The Long Trail Brewing Company is proud to have Double Bag named Malt Advocate’s “Beer of the Year” in 2001. Malt Advocate is a national magazine devoted to “expanding the boundaries of fine drinks”. Their panel of judges likes to keep things simple, and therefore of thousands of eligible competitors they award only two categories: “Imported” and “Domestic”. It is a great honor to receive this recognition.

Medium amber and clear, thin finger of head in a shaker on tap at The Good Life in Massapequa. Malt-forward and smooth, some caramel sweetness, mild nut tones, and a vague pale fruit impression. Smooth, medium-bodied, and mild.

Copper red color, medium carbonation. Even though malt is a primary flavor it is balanced with some sort of mild hop background taste. It was a good beer that I would try again as it was an easy middle of the road beer meaning it wasn't extreme in any way. Just a unique beer

The appearance is a clear yet dark amber/brown colored body with a short slightly creamy looking head, spotty lacing drips down the side of the glass as it goes down. The smell is malty and slightly fruity with some nuts that try to carry over slightly. The taste is a rich and well balanced malty fruitiness. On the palate its about a medium in body, comes across fairly sessionable, no aftertaste with a dry earthy finish, slightly crisp. Overall, this is a good beer for its style and good to me.

I've tried to like this beer, but despite my best efforts to delve into it's mystique I just find it a very boring beer. Primary character is malty, but I wouldn't call it a malt bomb. Kind of like an androgynous beer that's not quite sure what it wants to be. It's not offensive at all, nor is it exciting. One or two and I've had enough.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. A clear ruby orange with a thin layer of head that dissapates to a thin lace quickly. Toasted grains, caramel malts on the nose and in the taste. Some orange/honey/tea thing happening. The carbonation is medium low, the heft is medium, goes down fast. A good change of pace.
