Long Trail Double Bag was originally offered only in our brewery taproom as a special treat to our visitors. With an alcohol content of 7.2%, please indulge in moderation. The Long Trail Brewing Company is proud to have Double Bag named Malt Advocate’s “Beer of the Year” in 2001. Malt Advocate is a national magazine devoted to “expanding the boundaries of fine drinks”. This beer's label has changed from the one on the post. If you look at the image of the cow, you can see the Long Trail hiker is one of it's spots.
Bottled 10/11/16 and enjoyed early Jan 2017.
If you love malt AND hops but want a good balance in your beverage, this is the brew for you. Very smooth, just a tad complex profile and enough ABV to satisfy. This is the only Long Trail beer I've had so far but it's perfect.

L -- Pours a clear orange-hued amber with a practically non-existent off-white head that dissipates very quickly to a thin layer of foam
S -- Mild bready malts
T -- Malts, smoke, bittersweet chocolate, biscuit, caramel
F -- Very nice overall malt flavors make for a robust yet easy drinking brew

I was really impressed by this brew. great appearance, nice aroma that matches the taste. notes of toasted bread, grains, rich buttery nuttieness, toffee & caramel. very tasty and easy drinking but also super drinkable. texture works well.

Consumed 11/8/16

A: Dark caramel with some brown at the core and burnt gold around the edges - nicely clear - pours with a medium size, light beige head, fades to a small collar and a few wisps

S: Malty but somewhat mild - dark bread, toast, biscuits, bread dough, and bread crust - dark caramel, molasses, toffee - some floral and grassy malts, hint of citrus - lightly earthy - slight oxidation - but mostly bread

T: Very bready, with some bread, toasted bread, toasted grains, grainy bread, biscuits, crackers - some sweetness, with caramel, dark caramel, molasses - earthy, some oxidation - floral and grassy notes, some citrus - some heat

M: Medium body, carbonation on the low side, very smooth, a touch oily

O: When one bag isn't enough

I was fairly certain that I reviewed Double Bag years ago. But apparently not. This is a unique beer that does not really fit any styles. It's probably not for everyone, but the bready biscuits are charming.

Pours almost-clear copper with nearly zero head, just an off-white right. Nice color though. Aroma is slightly malty and just a hint of earthy hop. Flavor is a whole different bag... Delicious waves of malty goodness bread/cracker mixed with a nice dose of caramel. Very slight earthy bitter catches up at the finish, leaving the palate very clean and ready for a another sip. Again, delicious.

Coppery brown ale with a foamy tan head. The aroma is sweet grain and biscuit malt with a bit of yeast. The flavor is toasted malt and a hint of brown sugar with yeast and some grain and earthy qualities. Smooth, with a dry finish and a bitterness that is subdued. An interesting beer in many ways - one I hope I get to drink again!

I have personally consumed many four packs of tall boy cans of this so I'm somewhat shocked I never actually reviewed it. Pours a medium amber with red highlights and little head. Nose is caramel malt and dark fruits. Very sugary sweet smelling .
Deep burnt malt flavors with caramel and sweet fruits. Some late bitterness gives a touch of balance but this is what you thought it was. Texture is thick and keeps the booze from taking over. Different and worth a try if you've not yet sampled one.
