Long Trail Double Bag was originally offered only in our brewery taproom as a special treat to our visitors. With an alcohol content of 7.2%, please indulge in moderation. The Long Trail Brewing Company is proud to have Double Bag named Malt Advocate’s “Beer of the Year” in 2001. Malt Advocate is a national magazine devoted to “expanding the boundaries of fine drinks”. Their panel of judges likes to keep things simple, and therefore of thousands of eligible competitors they award only two categories: “Imported” and “Domestic”. Served in a flute glass from the bottle.

Appearance: Transparent Amber with medium bubbles on the body and an off-white head rising just about a surprisingly two finger's length.

Smell: Light yeast and smooth malts, resembles an IPA as far as scent.

Taste: Light malts a bit sweet. A touch sour which feels a bit like a lemon was squeezed in the brew.

Mouth: Medoum carbonation, lightly sticky.

Overall: Good brew especially considering the price I got it for. Breadth feel at the end which definitely complimented the prosciutto I just inhaled.

Actually one of the closest American Alts I've had to actual Altstadt Altbier I had back in the 80's in central Germany. Very smooth and great taste both warm and cold

A 12oz bottle brought back from New York City last year. It pours a hazy dark amber colour with a off-white head that leaves lacings. Aromas of roasted malt, orange, caramel & honey. Tastes of roasted malt, orange, caramel, honey, Aftertaste has crisp hops in the middle ending crisp with a lingering sweetness. Light in body with average carbonation.

Pours a semi clear and semi hazy copper/amber color. A fingernail length bubbly head dissapates to a frothy film that retains quite well and leaves a significant amount of lacing on the side of the glass.
The aroma consists mainly of toffee, caramel and biscuity malt. The aroma is closely aligned with the taste. Although this is a malt forward beer, there is a modest floral hops profile that balances it out.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth. It is silky and creamy, particularly in the finish.
I must confess I do not know much about the altbier style, however, I will say that this one is pleasant and flavorful, and, pairs well with a meal. I would have again.

This beer's label has changed from the one on the post. If you look at the image of the cow, you can see the Long Trail hiker is one of it's spots.
Bottled 10/11/16 and enjoyed early Jan 2017.
If you love malt AND hops but want a good balance in your beverage, this is the brew for you. Very smooth, just a tad complex profile and enough ABV to satisfy. This is the only Long Trail beer I've had so far but it's perfect.

L -- Pours a clear orange-hued amber with a practically non-existent off-white head that dissipates very quickly to a thin layer of foam
S -- Mild bready malts
T -- Malts, smoke, bittersweet chocolate, biscuit, caramel
F -- Very nice overall malt flavors make for a robust yet easy drinking brew

I was really impressed by this brew. great appearance, nice aroma that matches the taste. notes of toasted bread, grains, rich buttery nuttieness, toffee & caramel. very tasty and easy drinking but also super drinkable. texture works well.
