Karma Citra IPAKarma Citra IPA
Notes: Karma Citra IPA (American Style IPA) is one of the most talked about India Pale Ales in Canada for good reason. There is a lot of flavour packed into the orange-bodied 6.6% award winning beer. Notes of lemon rind, tropical fruits, soft pine resin and a touch of honey bound from the glass in both the aroma and taste thanks to a generous amount of the famous Citra hop. Deliciously bitter medium body, yet nice and smooth with a dry resiny finish.

This was the first Ontario beer I ever had, and it made me excited to move here. It's obviously citrus-y, but not disgustingly so. It's an appropriate late summer, early fall beer, and a fantastic prelude to Lake Effect, the next tank ten in the series. Of course, Great Lakes doesn't mess around.

S: A weak nose of citrus and dank hops.
T: Again weak pine resins and citrus notes its not bad but missing some.
F: Medium body with nice carbonation.
O: An ok IPA.

Tried a September 2020 can. Poured into a tulip a translucent honey gold pour greets thee with excellent collar. Fair nose here of citrus and malt but not as complex as I prefer. Taste is sweet and smooth; light hops around. Feel is light for an IPA. OK but the brewery has stronger contenders in its overall lineup.

L: Translucent medium light yellow, foamy head
S: Citrus and grapefruit hops, doughy malts
T: A bit bold but also a bit subtle. Slightly astringent resiny piney citrus pithy hops. Toasty caramel malts. It feels like it is really lacking something though, the flavour feels hollow. It's almost like it turns to water in your mouth as you swallow and leaves little aftertaste which I guess could be a good thing.
F: Thick foamy and a bit oily, coats your mouth, not too drying
O: Hate to say it but I feel this is overrated. The taste was not very special and really felt like it was missing something. Still an enjoyable beer.

I got a can of this beer from a beer store in Sault Ste Marie whilst there for my son's hockey tournament. It poured a hazy orangish with white head that is leaving a nice lace. The scent had dank fruit notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with tropical fruit peel presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

OMG. The aromas that waft up from the glass as the beer pours certainly sets the anticipation high. Loads of frothy head cap this clear, golden/orange beer. Sweet orange and citrus notes abound. Tastes of tropical fruit and oranges with a hop bitterness at the end. A little lacking in depth (by this I mean it could use a greater malt presence IMHO, but that is probably just a personal preference). Overall a hugely enjoyable beer that is hard to put down as each sip seems to compel another sip.

Single from LCBO in Kitchener, Ontario.
Pours a just slightly less than clear golden yellow with 2 fingers of off white shaving cream like head.
Aroma caramel malt, ripe orange, mango, pineapple, piney, slightly resinous.
Taste follows with tropical fruit, slightly piney/resinous, ripe orange, over ripe pineapple, moderate hoppy bitterness.
Medium full mouthfeel - smooth citrus bittersweet - orange/pineapple and touch of lingering bitterness.

I purchased a 473 ml standard Canadian pint can. So far, this is one of the better IPAs I've had in Ottawa and BA had it listed among the top 100 Canadian beers at the time of purchase. I sought it out for that reason, actually. The hop was distinct and citrus, as you'd expect from the name. I'd drink it again, though I'm not sure it would be a top 100 beer in the US states of Michigan or Ohio. The competition there is fierce.

From a 473ml can served straight from the fridge at 8 degrees Celsius into a white wine glass. Canned on date: 13.10.2017.

Look: The beer pours a slightly veiled amber with 3cm of moussy, off-white head that dissipates into a craggy cap in just short of 3 minutes. Good lacing and overall head.

Smell: Moderate strength and balanced. Hop-forward. Pronounced North American hops with notes of grapefruit, sweet orange, resinous pine, lychee, and pineapple.

Taste: Follows the aroma with medium-strong intensity and high bitterness. Again, notes of grapefruit, lychee, sweet orange, and resinous pine. Biscuity pale malts and a neutral fermentation profile provide a fabulous canvas for Citra to shine. The finish is long, strong, and very bitter with the hops still dominating.

Feel: Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Crisp with a bit of dryness and slight alcohol warming. Exceptional mouthfeel.

Overall: An excellent, delicious, and juicy IPA by GLB. A testament to how a relatively simple beer can be absolutely delightful. Well worth a try for anyone who likes their beer hoppy.

Good example of an American style IPA citrusy, grapefruty, with slightly veiled tropical fruit malt sweetness.

Can purchased from LCBO, date on can reads September 7 2017, enjoyed on September 18 2017.

L: Pours a tropical orange gold with almost two fingers of head. Great retention and lacing throughout.
S: Lots of tropical fruit, primarily pineapple, mango, melon and grapefruit. Mild earthy hop presence is there as well.
T: Follows the nose with the tropical fruit flavours. There's a nice hop bitterness that I felt was missing in last year's version.
F: Medium body and medium to high carbonation.
O: Great Lakes' Tank Ten IPAs never let me down and this is no exception. Easily my go-to IPA during the fall season.
