Had this on tap at Volo - a rarity and worth a try. Notes are all cherry on the tongue and nose, with some strong oaky flavour too. It starts quite syrupy and sweet but finishes off quite tart. Pretty stark contrasts in flavours but they blend well in the middle. I'm pretty sure the beer in question had been aged somewhat to sharpen the beer. It was good.

Bottle from the brewery. Aging may have helped this. Only slightly sweet, yet not dry rich dubbel. Something akin to an old ale. Good retained head, pleasant all around and very good with a meal. Dark brown coloured body. The aroma confirms the rich malting. Above average mouthfeel.

Had on tap at Volo.

Pours a very light brown, almost copper coloured. Very light for a Dubbel. Somewhat murky in colour. A thin white heat sits atop. Little lacing.

Smell is characteristically dubbel, but not very strong. Nothing but malt, really, not as sweet or as fruity as many dubbels. Somewhat one-dimensional, and not very complex.

Taste is similar to nose. Malty, sweeter than expected from the scent (but definitely not a particularly sweet dubbel). Quite bready. A small hint of dark fruit (plum and raisin) at the finish. Enjoyable, but not a notable dubbel.

Mouthfeel is quite carbonated- lots of 'tingle'. Medium bodied. Too much action for me.

Overall, happy to see an Ontario brewer doing a dubbel, but this is not a particularly good example of the style. I hope that Great Lakes keeps developing it, but I would not search it out again as it stands.

Pours a cognac brown. Thin off-white head.Aromas are raisins, Jamaican dark rum, with a smidgen of molasses.Tastes are all of the above, with a definite booziness.Overall this one reminds me that Dubbels are definitely an up and coming beer style for me personally

Really well blended beer. Perhaps a bit too much Cab Franc on nose & too much oak in the body, otherwise a stellar beer!
