Bottle shared by Jason, 650ml into a tulip.

Brown body with a white head. Good lacing and retention. Nose has assorted spicing, grains, saison yeast, and some malty sweetness - very much a 'browned' saison. Taste has a lot of yeast qualities, more complex spicing and bready flavours. Sweet malts again. A very nice beer, lots of subtleties in here.

Bottle from the brewery, limited run, previously served at Project X. Tasted more bitter than it is at 25 IBU. Medium brown colour, virtually no head. Carbonation is significant, tasty and very drinkable. Above average mouthfeel.Unique cross-style of old ale, saison.

Project X Bottle purchased about 2 weeks ago, so very fresh. Stated IBU of 25. Poured in to Great Lakes pint glass.

A - Poured medium brown, settled dark brown with some amber glow around the edges. A small amount of tan coloured head formed and quickly receded to a few bubbles.

S - A big hit of sweetness up front - brown sugar, raisins and a touch of molasses. Some clove, Belgian yeast and banana aromas round out the nose.

T - The saison characteristics come to the forefront providing clove, banana and Belgian yeast flavors. The malt backbone adds a big bready sweetness, characteristic of a doppel bock and a touch of caramel and toffee. There is a fairly big spice profile present as well, especially in the finish. The bitterness is low to moderate and is masked well by the sweet malt profile.

M - Medium body, creamy. Light carbonation.
