L: Golden yellow

S: Corn and sweet malt with a touch of skunk

T: Same as smell ... not offensive

F: good enough carbonation

Overall: unimpressive when I factor in the price and can get much better beer for the same cost.

Bought in Flordia, poured into a pint glass. Pours with lots of carbonation, one finger head. Color is of a yellowish gold. Cloudy. Not a very good look, I would say.

Smell of grains... malty and corny.

Taste surprised me to say the least. Thought it would equate to a watery tasting macro, but has a little more flavor and body. Medium body, with sweet corn notes, grassy, high malt.. No hops to note, A slight skunky and small metallic taste left in the mouth.

Overall goes smooth, a unique taste. Would drink again thought a little high on malt.

Poured from a clear 12 oz. bottle. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of grains, malts, touch of skunk. Taste is grains, malts, corn, touch of alcohol, very easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, despite the 7% abv, is a beer that would be great to have several of on a hot day.

Bottle: Poured a bright golden color beer with a large poured white foamy head with medium retention and light lacing. Aroma consists of light adjunct with medium sweet notes. Taste is mostly dominated by mildly sweet adjunct notes with not much else in terms of flavour profile. Body is light with surprisingly good carbonation. Better then expected but we are still talking malt liquor qualities here.

Kalik Gold has a thin, fizzy, slightly off-white head and a clear, deep gold appearance, with a few bubbles and no lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet barley malt and water. Taste is sweet, bold, malty, and it has an underlying hop bite or bitterness. Mouthfeel is generally light, and Kalik Gold finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and nicely drinkable. Yes, it has the typical malt liquor characteristics, and yes it’s quite good. I say you should try it!

A: Pours a transparent straw color (duh) with a small white cap. Retention is decent.

S: Wheaty, grainy, and nicely malted. Hops are decent, subtle, and slightly earthy and floral.

T: Identical to the nose. Pretty flavorful actually, with lots of alcohol in the flavor. There is an underlying sweetness in this beer as well.

MF/D: Fuller body than the others, very drinkable.

Notes: This went head-to-head with PBR in our blind bracketed macro tasting as the #5 seed (upset the #4 seed- PBR). Proving to taste better than most of the other 9 beers.

I received a bottle of this as a gift from my good friend the Louisiana Spitfire after her trip to the Bahamas, and along with a Kalik t-shirt as well, the whole ensemble. I also work with a fella from the Bahamas who was telling me all about the Kalik line, and the story behind the name regarding the Junkanoo festival.

Comes in a clear 345 ml bottle, the word Kalik embossed on it. Pours out a clear golden hue, casual carbonation, and a fairly tall shock white head that lasts less than 30 seconds before completely dissipating.

The aroma starts off fairly neutral, sweet malt and very faint grassy hops, but as it warms the adjuncts start crawling out.

Adjuncts are clearly present in the flavour, no doubt about it. Grainy malt up front, with some sour corn in the middle, finishing off with some puckering astringent herbal hops. Quite the mouthful. However I've been told this all becomes less noticable when you drink a few of these in the hot sun of the Bahamas. Had to have been there I suppose.

Mouthfeel is on the light side, but still fairly substantial for a 7% abv lager.

I thank my friend once again for bringing me back a bottle to sample, however I don't think that the general population is missing out on much that we don't have this available on domestic shores. No better or worse than most of our domestic macros.

12 oz clear bottle with a freshness stamp of 03/10 on the neck of the bottle. Pours a crystal clear medium gold color with a fluffy white foam. Average retention and little to no lacing.

Nose has a tropical fruity aspect from the elevated alcohol content along with some candy sweetness and grains. Does not smell very good, almost like a malt liquor.

Taste is a little bit better, but the sweet grains really are approaching cloying status. Not balanced very well by any semblance of hops. The alcohol helps to dry out the finish. This is quite a bit like many of the stronger Euro Pale Lagers found in the States. I dont think this would be overly enjoyable in hot weather on a beach, not very refreshing or crisp. Thanks to my Aunt for bringing this one back for me during a recent vacation. I think I'd rather have 2 regular Kaliks over this for roughly the same alcohol intake.

Pours a pale gold with a big white head. Head falls to nothing. No real lace.

Smells like an adjunct lager, grains. Lightly skunked.

Bigger flavor than the regular Kalik. Bit bitter and alcohol is present.

Thin to medium bodied in the mouth. Fuller than expected.

Average warm weather beer. Easy drinking and I like the higher alcohol.

Had Kalik Gold while on vacation in the Bahamas, assumed all I would get down there was basic lager type beers so the bar wasn't set too high for the local beer scene. This fit right into that category but thankfully had more body, flavor and ABV that expected. Typical thin, fizzy white head that faded fast and left zero lacing with of course the clear gold color. Aroma was basic malt, vegetables, a dash of caramel and a hint of floral hops. Taste had a tad bit more malt than regular lagers which gave it more robust sweet flavors to make up for the almost non-existent hop qualities. Better than I expected and drinkable enough for a nice poolside brew.
