An oasis of calm, just round the corner from Marble Arch and up towards Marylebone.

According to 'Beerintheevening' (a British Beer site), this is one of the top 40 pubs in the UK.

My visit on a warm Tuesday lunchtime (July 2008)certainly doesn't put it that high in my own estimation, but it is none-the-less a very good pub. Clean and tidy, a large horseshoe shaped wooden bar serves all areas downstairs (a function room upstairs wasn't open, so I haven't seen that).

Pleasant young lady served me a fine pint of Sussex Bitter, four other hand-pulled cask ales were available, two from Archers, I can't remember the other brews, sorry. The other customers were all on their own and drinking quietly, enjoying the peace of the place.

The small menu card listed the normal type pub-grub at typical London prices (heavy) and TV screens high on the walls showed changing (Sky?)sports, with no sound.

Glad I found it, I'll use it again if in the area, well worth finding.

Situated in Seymour Place the Carpenters Arms is a short walk from Marble Arch tube and around 3/4 mile from Marylebone Station. The pub stocks a wide range of micro brews apparently but on my visit the beer on offer was fairly average and i ended up drinking Ridley's IPA which wasn't the best IPA i've ever had. The ubiquitous Fuller's London Pride was also on offer. The pub seems to go for TV sport in a big way with live cricket being shown during my visit. The doorway has a tiled wall which seems to be all that survives of the pubs original fittings.
