Review: Can of Lowenbrau beer 5.20%ABV

Löwenbräu is brewed under the famous Bavarian Purity Laws. This should mean that this beer is full of natural flavours, crisp and clear and fully balanced with its taste, a quality assured product from Germany. A place where a well crafted beer is expected and anything less is simply not tolerated by the locals.

The appearance was of a gorgeous golden yellow colour that had a very good head and great lacing. Looked so good I couldn’t wait to begin drinking the beauty!

Found a faint aroma, smelt mostly of what a normal smelling lager should be like, malty and refreshing.

Was a lovely tasting drink that had no strong flavours or bitter aftertaste to it, just an awfully good session drink.
A clean, crisp, smooth and well balanced beer, Löwenbräu was really easy to enjoy. A good pure Deutsche lager. Refreshing.

I have to mention the can which is one of the most attractive I've seen. Beautiful duck egg blue with great old style lettering and lion symbol. And the gold gives it a touch of class... even in a can.
Pale straw appearance with thin head but good lacing lasting to the end of the drink. Good carbonation in a tall pilsener glass.
Smell is very mild. A hint of hops and some lemon and honey just about detectable.

The taste is very well balanced and super easy drinking. There is, however, just enough herbal hop bitterness and lemony sweetness to make this beer recognisable as a helles lager.

A very subtle but well made German beer with less bitterness than pilseners.

I rate this 78/100

Served cold from 500ml brown bottle into pilsner mug.

L) Light golden clear , with relatively thin white head for a helles. Head disappeared quickly to a film.

S) Fairly pungent hallertau hops as well as a decent malt hit.

T) Nice soft bready Munich malt flavour, hint of fragrant hops. No bitterness, a very faint sweetness on the finish.

F) Refreshing with no bitterness. Less fizzy than a lot of German lagers.

O) I wasn't expecting this to be a stand-out Helles, but it is actually pretty good although not quite in the league of Augustiner and Tegernseer. Recommended for any lager fans.

It had been quite awhile since I had one of these when I was in a local tavern I decidrd to get it.Poured a yellow/straw color with light head, somewhat of a sweet smell to it lightly metallic. Some mild bitterness and slight fruitiness but real light in flavor.Pretty easy to drink, better than alot of domestic lagers.

Appearance: 500ml can. Golden pour with a minimal head. Very little carbonation.

Smell: Mildly hoppy with hints of amlt and somem floral notes.

Taste: Light hoppiness and maltiness combine for a decent balance. Sweet notes throughout. Floral. A decent body for a pretty generic brew.

Mouthfeel: Full and crisp. Smooth towards the finish.

Drinkablilty: while i acknowledge that this isn't the best beer going, i enjoy it for what it is. i don't mind having this every now and then.

Appearance – Very light and clear yellow in color with tons of effervescence and a nice, white, foaming head that even left a little lacing.

Smell – The aroma has some light hopping but otherwise is mostly grass with a bit of must.

Taste – The flavors here aren’t that bad. The hops come out much more at the taste. They are very delicate but take charge over the grassy malt. There’s also no sweetness to speak of at the finish, which makes this one very refreshing.

Mouthfeel – This is of course light-bodied. There’s a bit of dryness to be had as well,

Drinkability – Surprisingly fun to drink. It may seem a little cheesy at the grocery store, especially since it’s so widely distributed, but this one is worth a second look, especially if you enjoy the style.

This is a solid beer that you don’t have to be embarrassed about if you keep it in the fridge for your light beer drinking friends or for yourself when you want something light and drinkable.

Lowenbrau pours a bubbly, crisp, and light gold, almost pilsner like color. A thin lacey white head quickly disperses.

It smells German and is faintly skunky, however, it’s probably just about the least skunky import in a green bottle. It certainly puts Heineken, Becks, 1664, etc… to shame here.

There are also hints of yeast and mild hops.

The taste is balance and refined. It’s rounded and dry but not as dry as other light Munchen lagers. It has that malt taste common in many of Munich’s beers.

It’s a great food enhancer for bland stuff, calms the mouth when you’re eating spicy food, and can generally pair with just about anything.

One of my favorite light, macro type lagers. Good for watching TV or drinking with the GF.

Pours a pale straw color without head really. Clear and light enough to almost watch tv through.

The aroma has just a hint of skunk and light cereal grain. Not much going on but not as bad as I thought it could be.

Taste and body are light, pale malt is present but that's about it. Lackluster but not offensive.

This is a great beer to wash a good summer meal down with. This one poured a nice golden color with a small white head that faded quickly. Grain was at the front of the smell but did not overpower the small but good hop scent. The flavor was just what I was looking for today, nice and crisp with no skunkiness and a great flavor that quenched my thirst. Recommended.

Presentation: 12 oz green twist ... "Original Munich Formula" is stated on the label. No freshness date seen.

Appearance: Straw yellow in colour with a thin white lace which comes from a light champagne like carbonation.

Smell: Quite clean with faint grassy herbal hop and a hint of grain.

Taste: Crisp and light bodied with a handful of malt texture on the palate. Light yet prickly spicy hop bitterness holds its own to flavour the brew. A touch of sweetness hovers on top after the hops fade ... the finish runs clean with a pinch of residual sweetness. Doesn't taste like it was over filtered nor are there any off flavours.

Notes: Not bad ... not bad at all. Surprise surprise, this brew has taken a turn for the better now being brewed in Canada under contract by Labatt. Decent use of hops to balance the malt ... enough to suffice any beer geek and not too much to turn the macro drinker away. Give it a try ...

This is the original German Lowenbrau, not the Miller knock-off. Pours pale straw, consistant with German pilsners. Not much head. Taste is a bit drier than most. Decent hoppiness. Malt is faint, but there. Aftertaste is dry with an alcohol twange. Overall, I liked it. I would buy it again if it was cheap.

Picked up a few cans of this to enjoy over the weekend - the weather is improving and I felt like a lager on the patio.

Poured into a Czechvar fluted pilsner glass. Bright golden in colour, some visible carbonation, big frothy head that has some pretty sturdy retention. Not bad indeed.

Nose is some mild hops, floral notes, honey and grain.

Surprisingly decent lager that has some hops and other notes to go with it that I picked up in the nose. Easy to drink, though the carbonation is a bit sharp. Not too bad for a macro, I have to say.

Cheap, tasty lager. Nothing special, but when I'm hoping for a few cans of something I can enjoy without really worrying too much about it.

I stopped by my favorite Beverage store in the entire state of Maine... Bootleggers Beverage Warehouse (Topsham, ME) and to my surprise they had an entire pallet of Lowenbrau on display! I hadn't had any since the 80's when Miller owned it. Now associated with INBEV I bought a 12PK (ONLY $12.99) and took a stroll down memory lane...

A: Straw gold color with a white head. Not too much active carbonation rising in this one. Very Good lacing.

S: Slight initial skunk, after that subsides there is a big pale malt character, and a faint hint at spicy hops, way in the background, slightly grainy.

T: Initial sweetness, almost honey like, a bit of hop spice in there too

M: Dry and lightly carbonated, pretty smooth, and a really clean finish.

D: I can drink a lot of this. This is one of the more flavorful lagers I've had. Do yourself a favor and pour this in a glass, it makes that initial "skunk" disappear.

Imagine my surpise to see this still on a menu somehwere. Had a bottle at Marino's Italian in Pacific Beach. Not bad. Sweet, hoppy flavor with a light mouthfeel. Probably doesn't travel well, given the slight skunkiness. Good enough that I had several.
