What's is going on here???? How do people actually consider this a good beer? It is TERRIBLE. It's smells like a bundle of hay. They were pouring $5 schooies of this stuff last night and it's easily the worst beer I've ever had. Drink real beer like VB, export or New. Not this crap, I feel sorry for any tasteless person who considers this a good beer.

I really was not impressed with this beer. Right from the open it had a "rotten veggie" smell to it. The beer poured very nice in the glass, bright golden color, a little more clear than I anticipated. However, it had a good long lasting head. Very watery, and a chalky aftertaste. I dont think I will try this one again for a while. I have had better german "light" beers.

Wow, ok, maybe this was skunked, but it was horrible. Smelled pretty bad and tasted worse. I would rate this amongst the worst beers I have ever tried. My apologies for not having more to say, but I didn't finish this beer, just 2 swallows. I promise, I will try another one, in case this one was in fact skunked.

I've read all of the other reviews on this beer and I don't understand how it's consistently receiving high or even average marks. This is probably one of the worst beers I've ever had. Maybe the one I had was skunked, but my friends who drank the rest of the case assured me it tasted normal.

It started out OK with a light crisp start and then it was all down hill from there. It had a very strong bitter/sour aftertaste that made it incredibly hard to finish. I always finish a beer no matter how bad it tastes, but I really struggled on this one.

If I ever come by it again I'll try it just in case the one I had was skunked. Until I do though, my advice is to stay away.

Served: Poured from a green (...) bottle into a pint glass. A foreshadow of things to come? I hope not, as I selectively chose my pack where I thought the least amount of light would be able to enter (and therefore destroy) the beer. Still, I didn't get my hopes up.

Smell: Smell comes first, because as soon as I cracked the cap just a bit, I got a very strong and unpleasant whiff of skunk. Immediate disappointment, before I even had the chance to pop the cap off. There may be a little bit of maltiness as well, but skunk dominates.

Appearance: Very light, piss yellow... carbonation bubbles are tiny and there's not lot of them. Crowned with a white, puffy head. Very disappointing, the head is the best part of its appearance. Even it goes away very quickly, though, leaving nothing but a skunked piss-like liquid.

Taste: The first couple sips of this beer almost made me gag--skunk once again takes the spotlight. There's a little bit of maltiness I could detect in the flavor, hidden away somewhere behind the light-struck hops. Very low bitterness--probably because the hops have already been torn to shreds. The background maltiness seems to be in the aftertaste as well, and is actually somewhat enticing.

Mouthfeel: This is where this beer shines. It's very light and has the potential to be easy to drink, skunkiness aside.

Drinkability: Because of the skunkiness, this beer starts off nearly impossible to drink. After half a glass, it's not as perceptible in the taste, or the smell. It gets easier to drink, the more you drink. Maybe it would be a good beer to drink when already pretty wasted, but definitely not to start a night off with.

Certainly not a good "first try." I can imagine an unskunked Löwenbräu Original being quite nice, but with the price and the bottle color, it's just not worth the risk of skunked shit. I haven't had too many foreign beers out of green bottles, but I'm already considering giving up on them. I think this was a waste of $6.49, and I will not buy it again unless I see it in better-protected containers (cans or fully-boxed bottles to block the light).

Appearance: Very pale, clear, dingy, brassy yellow; almost the color of egg whites. White head is very fizzy but with adequate retention.

Smell: Skunk alert! Goddamn green bottle. A bit of bready malt, otherwise this is musty, uninteresting, and bland.

Taste: Very bland. Corn, a bit of grassy hop bitterness and old hop cheesiness. Clean and crisp, like mineral water. Overall, a stereotypically lousy beer worthy of much lampooning.

Mouthfeel: Actually somewhat chewy, while at the same time effervescent. Not bad.

Drinkability: (Yawn!) If you're looking for a bland, relatively unobtrusive beer, there are better and cheaper options out there.

S- Hints of lemongrass, faint sweet malt, skunk, and grapefruit

T- Bitter grapefruit, skunk, citrus notes, sour lemon peel, notes of floral hops

M- thin and watery

D- Get past the skunk and bitter lemon and you'll find bitter asprin chalky, nasties.

Bottle: Poured a golden colored beer with a standard head. Aroma is quite weak with only some malt coming out of my glass. The same applies for the taste, which is quite weak. I don’t have a lot of experience with helles and this leaves me with the feeling of macro crap lager.

I saw it in the beer store and had to buy a 6. I had memories of a wonderfully balanced import from the 70's and earlier with a foil cover. What I thought was a classic German lager. This beer wasn't it. The looks are deceiving, as it could pass for a extra light malt based pilsner.
The germans must not have any respect for American drinkers, and they would be about 80% correct. But the other 20 percent are BeerAdvocates.
This beer should have delivered, and because it called itself "Original", I was basing my judgement on the high standards of German Imports.
Watery comes to mind. There was some slight maltiness and a hint of hops, but very unsatisfying and nowhere near the classic Lowenbrau of my youth.

A bit of malt in aroma.Light yellow, with fizzy head that dissipitates, a big brewery beer. Fairly low in taste. Crisp and clean, so fortunately no aftertaste and boring. Grassy herbal leading to metallic and airline fuel, and low in malt. Thin mouthfeel.

with a bit more abv than the average pale lager, i was expecting a bit more flavour. nope.
starts out with a very slight aroma and the flavour is about the same. almost tasted watered down. the bottle was well within the drink before date so not sure what happened with this one.
pretty much washes down without leaving any indication you ever drank it.

A: Poured from a bottle to a flute glass. Had a yellow color and a completely clear texture. There was about a quarter inch of creamy head, but almost no lacing.

S: Smelled of typical green bottle skunk, along with some hops and malt.

T: Had some bitter hops, malt, a little citrus and a skunky quality. Thin and uninteresting.

M: A below average amount of carbonation and an oily finish.

D: I'm actually surprised this beer has an overall B- grade. This is just like most macrobrews - no character or taste. Pass.

A - Crystal clear and as golden yellow as a first morning void, this beer has a small wispy cap of a few soapy bubbles. Some filmy lace is left on the glass. This isn't the best looking beer, honestly. Whipping the beer around the glass a bit does bring up a small head, but it dissipates quickly.

S - This smells a lot like puffed corn cereal...what's that stuff called? Kellog's Corn Pops. This smells exactly like Kellog's Corn Pops, with maybe a hint of lemon juice spritzed over the top. Not bad, but pretty mundane.

T - Like the nose, this is pretty restrained and boring. There is a musty hint of floral and spicy hops, but it's only a hint. This tastes a lot like a Heineken or some other bland Euro lager.

M - A bit acrid at first, this rounds out in the midpalate before finishing bone dry. This beer actually makes me more thirsty for having sipped it.

D - Blah. This isn't terrible, but it is very uninteresting. A below average beer for the style. I'll pass next time.

Best before date: 08/09. taken from notes. Poured into Pokal.

Appearance: Poured the beer at a 90º inclination creating a one thinger white head that eventually faded into thin cap. High effervescence. Golden color. Nothing overly attractive. Almost non existent lacing.

Smell: Skunkiness and slight floral hops on the nose. Subdued maltiness. Medium intensity.

Taste: Malty, slight skunkiness and floral /spicy hop flavour.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium light body. Watery and slightly oily. Medium low bitterness. Finishes clean.

Drinkability: Cheap and a decent representation of a heller. The slickness makes it harder to classify this as a session beer and the Lack of flavor makes it a very uninteresting one.

Serving can, poured into budweiser lager glass.

Pale gold, like straw, best way to describe it would actually be "urine in water".

Thin 3/4 finger head, dicipated fast, no lacing.

No detectable odor other then a light "carbonation" on your nose.

mouthfeel is like carbonated water, actually it feels exactly like Perrier water.

Taste is very light, almost non-existant, but whats there is straw like and a touch of lemon.

Carbonation is very heavy, hits the back of the throat like chugging soda. Which drowns out what little flavor it had.
People with sensitive asohpagus may get hiccups after they swallow, but they dont stay. "as happened to my mate".

Overall, not a good beer, but to each their own.

After all that being said, slamming one back in the hot sun
is going to feel so so good, its so much like water.

Bright straw color with dense pearly activity. Slightly frothy white 3 finger head, lasting around 5 minutes, with faint lacing. Flavors of sweet roasted grains, faint skunk and metal, a bit floral, and weak noble hops. Lots of sweetness, low bitterness. Slick medium body with prickly and crispy carbonation. Light finish, lingering syrupy sweet roasted malts, and very faint grassy hops. Very fresh but watery, not very flavorful. Overall the quality is mediocre.

Had in a tall beer glass
A: light yellow, clear, decent 2.5-finger head that quickly dissipates; very few carb beads
S: stinks; macrobrew machinery stench all over it
T: very simple, non-complex beer; very little hop profile
M: overly watery
D: it's certainly not the worst macrobrew you could get, but why bother?

Not impressed with this beer. Smells like straight apple juice. Virtually no sweetness, though, and a sort of flat tasting bite. Thin bronze hue, slightly pleasant crisp mouthfeel, but not as crisp as my old standby, budweiser. Tastes pretty cheap, but I can sort of dig that kind of metallic flavor in that it personally brings back memories of getting drunk in college. Overall didn't like it, but it wasn't anything nasty, and beer is beer. Lowenbrau is ok.

I don't understand why imports like green bottles. Pours a crystal clear sunny yellow color with limited head retention but good to note that the foam did remain through the tasting and left good lacing.

The smell is every so skunky. Funny how the vegitable smell comse out so much for a beer that follows the "reinheitsgebot" tradition. Undertones of sweeter malt and more noticeable phenolic aromas are noticeable as well.

The taste is soooo European lager. A pilsner sweet taste that mixes with a band aid/cardboard mix and comes out with a funk skunk taste. Really why the green bottle? The malt is a tad on the sweet side and a big notice from the bittering hops. A spicy to almost earthy appeal with the bitterness, is quickly lost and finishes crisp and cleanly. The aftertaste hangs on to the strong yeasty flavors and leaves a dry creamy feeling that is on the verge of chalkness.

The body has a mid feel is little carbonation. Overall this beer has a lot of mixed appeal with the fruity and skunkiness combo. I still don't understand the appeal of green bottles though.

Another green bottle, another beer that tastes like the other green bottle guys. Anything that says premium lager is becoming pretty suspiscious in my mind. This one is extra pale in appearance, but not as bitter in the taste. Seems pretty smooth. Nothing special about this beer. Summing up, skip it.

500ml can poured into a pint glass.
ABV 5.2%

A - Poured a clear yellow with a 1cm head which quickly vanished. Minimal lacing. Looks pretty average.

S - Light sweetness hits first, a bit of sour, and some grassy hops in the background.

T - Sweetness up front, some sourness in the middle and some mild bitter hops in the finish. There's a slight unpleasant tartness which isn't helping my enjoyment.

M - Average carbonation. Body is light.

O - My appreciation for this one isn't as high as it used to be. Pretty average stuff.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium yellow/golden color with a small fizzy white head. Grassy, yeasty, and a bit skunk smelling (probably a bad bottle). Flavor was mildly bitter, more malty grains. Light bodied, decent carbonation, fairly smooth. Decent beer.

Poured from 11.2 oz. bottle into Samuel Adams pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a crystal clear golden with a one-finger head that dissipates almost instantaneously. Spots of lacing are left behind.

Smell: Skunked. Green bottles suck, brewers. A moderate smell of hops and light smell of malts is behind the skunk.

Taste: Moderate skunkiness, moderate hops and biscuit malts, mild bitterness throughout. End is watery and grassy.

Mouthfeel: Light to moderate body, high carbonation, smooth.

Overall: Not a very good beer, just below par. They need to not use green bottles and need more flavor!
