A - Pours pale golden and thick with haze. Fluffy, one-finger head quickly dissipates to bubbles and foam. Some spots of lacing.
S - Overpowering sour wheat and yeast characters. Subtle spices and a bit of banana peel.
T - Sour lemon zest dominates. Wheat, yeast, coriander and bananas are also there, but not really enough to balance.
M - Nicely carbonated, not forced in any way. Smooth, crisp, refreshing. Not too heavy for the style, which is good.
D - Not too bad for a fresh, local summer beer, but there are better hefes to be consumed.

Originally reviewed May 29, 2005. This is fantastic! A nice rich thick murky golden lemon pour, with a sop of thin white foamy head. Aroma is rich in coriander, lemon and sweet pears. Flavors is extremely wheaty yet full of bubbly esters and rich fusel notes. The flavor profile is amazingly complex for the style, yet managing to maintain a smooth, crisp clean palate that is just slightly sugary and sour. August 10, 2006. Recent retastings have found this much shallower, with sour notes coming for front and the desirable esters and character having fallen back. Batch variability strikes again...

Yellow and a little extra hazy with good head and retention. Spicey smell with a touch of banana. Good banana flavor, but the sour wheat flavor is too strong to make a great beer. Still nice, light and easy drinking. Nice attempt, but cant keep up with the great hefes made in Germany.
