Presents as dirty brass with a thick bone crown as it jams the nose with spicy rye, caramel glaze, brown grass, and clove esters.
It follows through, flavor-wise. Tangoing rye spice, laid upon sweet bread base. Yeasty through the middle, carrying cloves, pears, and a subtle nod of bruised banana. A touch weizen-esque, and hinting strongly at Wolnzacher. The rye follows through to the close, as it mingles with a like-minded dried flower and herb hop note.
Moderately carbonation and light in the mouth. This is a straight-up nuanced drinker, and a fine rendition of an all too rare, true Germanic Rye.

Slightly hazy light copper body. Frothy ivory head. Slightly better than average retention. Moderate lacing (all of the Dane beers seem to have head retention problems - it's probably just not "beer clean" glassware, but it is a very busy bar!).

RYE! Distinct spicy rye in the nose... just beautiful! A caramelish malt supports it from beneath (or acts as its safety net!) along with some mild grassy hops and a touch of yeasty character that's subtly fruity and a touch spicy/phenolic (or is that the rye itself?).

It's smooth in the mouth with a medium-light body and delicate, fine-bubbled carbonation that lets the maltiness come through, and doesn't add anything to accentuate the rye spiciness. Very nice!

More full rye flavor appears in the flavor, swathed in gently sweet, bready, and lightly caramel-accented malt. Mildly nutty even! Softly fruity yeastiness rounds it out with notes of softly sweet apple and green banana; and a firm bitterness balances it - although the rye itself lends just about enough zing to do that on its own!

It finishes dry with the rye spiciness resonating over some mild lingering bready malt notes.

Smooth. Supple. But SPICY too! And complex with a hint of caramel and some mild yeasty fruitiness.... enjoyable and somewhat complex. Defintely well-rounded. Very drinkable. Impressive!

on tap at the downtown dane with some peeps. reviewed mostly from memory

appearance: amber body, beige head...pretty standard

smell: little sign of rye, a little metallic, toasted malts...not very impressive

taste: um, probably the worst dane beer i've ever had. i picked up a rusty amber flavour with not enough in the way of rye, toasted malt, bland red fruit. pass

mouthfeel: medium

drinkability: not great
