Sampled at the Madison Airport. (served with a lemon).

A: Very hazy, straw coloured with a white head, no retention, initially a hint of lace.

S: Spice, lemon, wheat.

T: Lemon, spice, wheat, light bread.

M: Moderate body & carbonation.

D: Barely average for a hefe weizen.

Certainly better than most American wheats, but it's tough to play in the hefe weizen category.

A hazy pale yellow unfiltered wheat. Thin head with an interesting lightly spicy/peppery aroma.

I had this after sampling 3-4 of their heavier offerings and it was surprisingly refreshing as a spacer. The flavor was full- perhaps the 60% wheat malt they talk about. Slightly astringent.

Quite drinkable on a Muggy Madison, Wisconsin evening.

Tried this along with the Black Earth Porter at The Great Dane Pub off the capital square here in Madison. My first "American Pale Wheat Beer" and I have to say, not too bad. Enjoyed it with a good 1/2 lb burger and fries.

Appearance: Served in a tall weizen glass on tap with a slice of lemon on the rim. A bright light to goldenish yellow color with a cloudy, translucent, thick body. Very small white head (probably killed by the lemon slice) that disappates quickly. Looks refreshing.

Smell: Grainy, sweet, spicy -- almost vegetable-like but couldn't quite put my finger on what. Not in a bad way though. Fair amount of hops balanced with wheaty malt. Very unique in my limited experience.

Taste: Spicy, mysteriously vegetable-like but also sweet. Hops and wheat mix for a well-balanced body. Refreshing taste overall and suitable for the hot humid summer day I was enjoying.

Mouthfeel: Much heavier/creamier than I had imagined for this "pale ale" but a pleasant surprise as I enjoy a good medium-bodied beer. Fairly highly carbonated but not a strong bite. Very refreshing overall.

Drinkability: Overall a tasty, and very interesting brew. Though I couldn't quite pinpoint the vegetable flavors I was tasting, it remained a complex yet refreshing pale wheat for a summer's day. Could see it as a session beer, even though it's fairly heavily-bodied. Recommended if you're in town and at the Dane to try a few of their vast selection of 15 or so beers on tap.

On tap at the brewpub. Listed at 5.35% abv. Thick and lacy. A good wheaty aroma. A slightly orange body, thick head and lots of thick lace. Oange flavour, and edgey. Something alike Dancing Man. There are good models to follow in this state. Average mouthfeel.
