As a fan of bocks, I love this beer. I look forward to every spring when the Dane releases it. The only thing I have had that is better than this and would rate a 5, is a dopplebock the Dane came out with this year called the uberbock. Interestingly I was able to talk to the man who brewed it. He told me that it was an accident. They were trying to make some other type of bock and something went wrong and they created a dopplebock with an alcohol content of 10.5 percent. I love the dominator but the uberbock is the best beer I have ever had.

I've had this a few times at the downtown dane, and it's one of my favorite beers. Dark copper collor, oak overtones in the nose, and a sweet carmel malty taste with a subdued but noticeable hop presence. An interesting and complex beer, that hit's you with tons of flavor. A great brew

It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
The camera pans across a suburban landscape and targets a specific house. A lovely one with golden-edged burgundy siding and a porportionally large, bone-colored roof.
A tobacco laden malty spendor drifts through the air as I approach the door. Subtle, but welcome.
The door swings open and I am greeted by a smiling man in a wooly malt sweater. After some small talk about caramel and earthen malt tones, a bell rings and in comes a trolley upon oaken, woody rails. We climb aboard and travel to land of vanilla-tinged make-believe. A strange cat purrs "meowmeow, alcohol, meowmeow". Lady Elaine comes out from her grand chocolate castle, dressed in orange peels and molasses, and gives an instructional speech about grain. The bell rings again and the wooden trolly takes us back.
It is a smooth, delicious ride.
Can you say "intoxicated"? I knew you could. How about "growler"?

As warming and as comforting as the show.

In memorial to Fred "Mr." Rogers. Thanks for the memories. You're in a better neighborhood now.

On-tap at the Downtown location.

Pours a rusty amber hue with a thin film of khaki bubbles on top. Nose of strong grains, gnarly wood, and strange fruit. Taste starts off with the sweet carmelized malts and oaky notes but is quickly overtaken by an almost lambic sour/citric fruitiness of grapfruit and lime. Very unique and intriguing on the palate. Mouthfeel is oily slick and smooth with a solid carb bite. A whole lot of character in this warming delight. Never a misstep, Great Dane.

Reddened amber body with some tan froth that dissipates rapidly. Caramel, citrus, booze, and earth in the aroma. Flavor is all sweet boozy caramel. Finishes with some nice fruits, even a touch of grapefruit. Strong, medium-full body. Ample carbonation. Balanced and drinkable.

Very nice example of the doppelbock style. This would be a great winter beer, perfect for ending a long day out in the cold. While a little on the sweet side, it's smooth texture and flavor make this one worth a second visit, especially for doppelbock fans.

Pours a clear dark reddish coppery color with tan colored head. Caramel malt, sticky sweetness, and some light cereal on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied and thick. Finishes with caramel and nuts.

A-Deep copper color. Decent head that fades quickly.
S-The aroma overall is faint but I got a bit of smoke, malt and a bit of toffee and vanilla.
T-Very malty as you would expect, with flavors of vanilla and toffee with a noticable smoke flavor.
M-Slightly sticky with decent carbonation.
Overall a very good beer and fairly true to the style. Complex malt flavors without being overly sweet.
