A - Pours an opaque black with a thin layer of bubbles close to the same color as the label.

S - Roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, standard for a stout, though it comes on a lot stronger than most I have in recent memory. Slight vanilla scent as well.

T - Roasted malts dominate with a smooth chocolate taste lingering throughout. Hints of oatmeal and vanilla stay in the background. Very sweet tasting, almost as sweet as a milk stout, but not quite, the roasted malts still dominate heavily in this beer. The flavors are just as strong as the aroma.

M - Not quite medium bodied, but not as heavy as most stouts within the style. It feels a little thin. Definitely a good creamy mouthfeel from the oatmeal, but the thin-ness of the beer takes a little away here. Finish is bitter roasted malts.

D - Great drinkability. I love picking up a 6-pack of this for a Friday night, it's a great sessionable stout. I haven't tried all of Brown's brews yet, but it probably isn't a stretch to say this will be my favorite of all their beers.

A - Pours a dark black with a thin layer of light tan almost beige bubbles close which dissipated rather quickly leaving no head at all.

S - Roasted malts, chocolate, caramel notes

T - Roasted malts dominate with a smooth chocolate and caramel taste lingering throughout. Hints of oatmeal and vanilla stay in the background. Sweet and smooth!

M - Medium bodied for a stout, it feels a little thin with carbonation this dissappears quickly. Finish is a yummy roasted malt flavor.

D - Great drinkability. I could drink a sixer of this stout and not feel inflated - I can not say that about a lot of stouts. I really liked this beer but then again it fell in line with a lot of porters that I really enjoyed.

Picked up a growler while back in the area visiting family. This brewery was my homer spot for 2+ years. The stout pours an extremely dark blackish-brown color with blood ruby highlights and a very thin, light, foamy chocolate milk colored head. Aromas of light roast coffee and cream, with a hint molasses and chocolate. Flavors are rich and smooth on a light body. Coffee and hazelnut character come forward first, with a smooth chocolate and caramel malt backbone to keep the brew on the sweeter side of bitter. The aftertaste is dark chocolate, and a little bitter, with a slick and lingering finish. This is lighter than I like for the style, but very tasty overall.

A: Dark brown, almost black body, with a thin, creamy tan head; mostly lasting, but no lacing.

S: A light nose, but a good one at that: roasted chocolate malts, sweet toasted oats, coffee notes, caramel, and some vanilla.

T/M: Great flavor: oats create a sense of sweetness while the roasted chocolate malts create a slight bitterness to balance it out. Getting a little lactose to make it creamy and kind of lean, but it's still chewy on the tongue and carbonation is light. Didn't expect it, but definitely getting some smoke in the flavor as well. Other flavors include cocoa, coffee, and vanilla.

O: I love oatmeal stouts and this one was really nice. It's always my go-to at the Tri-City ValleyCats ballgame. Easy to find, priced well, and characteristics are spot on. A must try for a oatmeal stout lover.

A - Pours a dark black-brown color with a finger of brownish-head. The head has pretty good retention and laces nicely on the glass.

S- Lots of roasted carmel malts and some really nice sweetness from the oats. There is also some chocolate notes in the background with a tad of coffee.

T - Starts off with some nice toasted carmel malt and the oat flavor mixing nicely. There is also a touch of cocoa in the background. Through the middle the roasted flavors really come out and there is even a little bot of coffee flavor along with it. The finish is a mix of the roasted carmel malts and sweet oat flavor alongside some lingering roasted flavors.

M - A little bit more than medium bodied with light carbonation. Super smooth and silky. Almost slides through the mouth. But really watery at all.

D - Very drinkable. The flavors are really nice, and while there is sweetness, it is well balanced and never feels like too much. The mouthfeel is really fantastic.

Solid oatmeal stout. Worth a go on a fresh tap.

The color of the pour is nearly black with a slightly tan head. The smell is very roasty with some coffee and chocolate.

The mouthfeel from the oats is wonderful and silky smooth. The mouthfeel stays constant throughout the pint. There is a slight bitterness at the end.

This is my favorite of the style. The silkiness from the oats is really great and there isn't too much in the way of chocolate or coffee flavors to overwhelm that silkiness.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with no date or lot code on the bottle or label. Sampled on October 8, 2009.

It pours quickly with a dark brown to black color and a thin tan head with non-clinging lacing. Not quite as foamy as the stouts I prefer. The aroma is a fascinating combination of sweetness, oatmeal, wheat, and roasted coffee grinds.

The mouthfeel was of thin to medium body which does not emulate some of the other oatmeal stouts I have had in the past.

The flavor rescues my short-lived disappointment with the mouthfeel with an interesting balance of sweet, chocolate malts, and neutral hops. Overall this is quite mild. Not bad in the long run.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: black body with brown edges and the tiniest transit of light allowed through. Head is one finger of rapidly dissipating creamy tan foam. Pretty stouty looking.

Smell: nice mocha aroma with hints of chocolate, coffee and roasted grain. My only complaint is that it is a bit light; the aroma seems diluted in water. The composition is damn nice, though.

Taste: flavor starts out with a somewhat fruity character with a hint of tartness, before evolving into a charred wood/roasted barley goodness. It lacks smoothness and refinement, but it ticks all the boxes for oatmeal stout characteristics.

Mouthfeel: smooth, medium body with a well-integrated carbonation. If not precisely creamy, it's got a silky character which I love in a sweeter stout.

Drinkability: this is a tasty stout which I would definitely have again. Not exactly a session beer, as it is a bit sweet, but quite quaffable nonetheless.

Poured into pint glass.

Pours 1/2 finger of tan head. Not good retention. Leaves very little lace. Color is a dark brown, basically black.

Aroma: Chocolate, caramel, coffee, oats, and grassy hops. Very typical for an oatmeal stout

Taste: Big coffee and caramel taste. Chocolate, oats, and grassy hops all present as well. A lot like the smell, except the malts seem to be more roasted here.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and creamy, a little rich. Wow, this beer is highly carbonated. Full bodied. Ends with a roasted malt flavored aftertaste.

Overall, a pretty good example of the style. The only thing I really don't like here is the carbonation level being so high. Other than that it is pretty good.

On Tap at the brewery in Troy, NY. Pours dark brown with long lived off-white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of caramel malt, dark fruit and cacao. Body is full, creamy and smooth. Caramel malt, vanilla, coffee, brown sugar, dark fruit, sherry and hint of hops combine on the palate. Finish is long and semi-dry. Delicious brew.
