The thing to know about Iron Hill is that each location is well coordinated with the others and so the Food menu is the same from place to place and the basic menu of house beers is the same although brewed and fresh at each location rather than brought in from elsewhere. Where the uniqueness of each location shines is in the liberty they allow each individual brewmaster to put on offer a line of beers of their own choosing. Their "quality control" exends to proper training of each server in what beers are available, etc. So your experience at each location should be pleasant and worth a visit. Plus your stand by beers from the master menu should be available and there should also be a list of beers at each location unique to that location.

West Chester is not my favorite place in the world. If you like insufferable college hipsters, ditsy biddies, and business lunchers, you won't have a problem, but it's not really my scene. But if you're going to drink some good beer and have some good food, ignore the crowd and come to Iron Hill. In case you didn't know, IH is a mini-chain, but they still make some good quality beer, and each site tends to have something different to offer.

Of the IHs I've been to (not many), I can say the WC location definitely has the best beer selection. I mean, there is a lot of stuff on tap here, and they keep the seasonal selections rotating quite well. Their year-round offerings may not be anything extraordinary to the extreme beer geek, but they're all generally solid, and the seasonals keep things interesting.

Service is fine. Bartenders seem used to very busy crowds, so the bar is well-staffed and everyone is generally on the ball. They do a good job with the food menu here too, and I've never had a bad meal at an IH. Your wallet might be a little on the thin side when you finally leave the place, so just keep track of what you're ordering.

Iron Hill is not so much a "destination," but it's worth checking out for drinks and a bite to eat if you're in town.

Went here on a mini bar crawl in West Chester since I've never been here in my 30 years in SEPA.

Iron Hill West Chester is big, just like all the other Iron Hill's out there. I think the Phoenixville location is the smallest by far. Anyway this location has a nice outside large seating area with plenty of room. You don't get that at the Philadelphia location. Inside it;s large and the bar is to the right, with the brewing equipment to the right of that. In view of all the fermenters, vats, barrels and other brewing equipment, nice views. A large u shaped bar with an island of booze within, taps towards the actual bar wood area. 15 taps or so, 2 cask offerings I believe, 1 nitro, No sign of any reserve bottles lying around, and the list confirms that only one is available at the time of this writing, FE15 it's called.

Going forward and to the left a huge dining area with some nice art on the wall. A lot of wooden interior with a modern and semi dark look, outlined with white. The dining area must seat at least 150 easy. To the right of the dining area, a smaller bar, which I guess is reserved for private parties or something. The bathrooms are nice, clean, private and spacey.

The beer list is nice and covers a lot of styles. I went with the Saison Melange, which was so good and I ordered another. Had a IPA as well and that was decent. Iron Hill wins mad awards for it's brewing year round, and with the beer they are serving, it's apparent why. could of went with some of the other offerings although the house beers are all the same from location to location. They offer growlers to go as well, with some reasonable pricing for the bigger and bolder beers.

All in all, I will come back here, every beer I had was great and the bartenderess was friendly and informative. Clean and spacious all around. Never been a fan of Iron Hill's food, so maybe I'll give it a go next time I stop into one.

I had my wedding rehearsal dinner at this Iron Hill, and have eaten here on several other occasions. As far as food goes, they have a consistent and large selection of food. I've always found everything to be pretty good for what you pay.

The place is always busy, and being in downtown West Chester, there's not a whole lot of parking. Fortunately, there's a reasonably priced parking garage only a few blocks away. I've always made reservations, and have never had to wait to be seated.

The beer selection is very good. They have a little bit of everything, and I've only been disappointed once or twice. I often get their sampler, which consists of a whole bunch of 4 oz. glasses. Be sure to specify how many you want, or else they'll bring out everything they've got, which might be way more than you're looking for.

The ambiance is pretty nice. It can get a little loud sometimes. I try to sit at one of their booths, which are very comfortable and private.

If I'm looking to spend an evening at a nice restaurant, Iron Hill is always the first place that comes to mind, and the one in West Chester is one of the best.

i went to the Iron Hill located in Newark, DE with one of my friends. We've always wanted to go, but we'd always walk past the place and say, "Well, maybe next time." But I'm glad to say we finally did go.

A- Really nice lighting, dark wood paneling and bottles arranged neatly. I'm really big on lighting, and the lighting here made for a nice relaxed and warm mood. Great atmosphere for catching up with a friend, a nice date, or a family gathering.

Q- Everything seemed of a higher quality, and the price signified it. I still rate the price as reasonable though, because you feel that you are getting what you pay for, and that's a pretty rare thing around where I live.

S- Our waiter was very courteous and helpful with what to recommend. She seemed out of the loop with what beers were in supply at the moment, because they didn't have any hefeweizen or triple ale. So, I opted for the Belgian Seasonal Ale, which I ended up loving. Our food also wasn't to long a wait, which is more than I can say for the Chinese restaurant close to where I live. Overall, good service.

S- Selection was above average, although if you are a rather health conscious individual, be ready to pay extra. The average price for the health menu was at least fifteen dollars for a main course. Otherwise, the selection is pretty standard, with not to many surprises.

F- absolutely delicious. Our appetizers were great, and our main course was even better. Our beers felt tailor made for the food, and both complimented each other so well. Best food i've had in quite a while.

V- For what you get, the price is reasonable. Between the two of us, it was a little over fifty dollars. For us that's quite a lot, but it still felt worth the cost, and we didn't feel ripped off.

I've been to a few of the Iron Hills over the years. At first, i was simply not impressed. A burger from the Media location seemed like it was a frozen patty version. This experience left me completely turned off for quite awhile. Recently, I went to the North Wales location and the West Chester location (last night) for a couple of homebrew competitions. For the WC location, I found the service to friendly and helpful. Beer selection was good and the beers were tasty. Mussels were excellent, frites average, calamari good. Prices are around average for a brewpub, but I used my AHA card for a 20% discount on food and drink. Atmosphere is a liitle loud and the wait times for a table can be extremely long. While this isn't my favorite brewpub in the world (don't prefer the chain feel), it's not a bad spot by any means. This chain makes a killing moneywise so they must be doing something right.

Went here while visiting a friend in the area.

Atmosphere is good, very similar to the larger brewpub chains including Gordon Biersch, Max Lager's, etc. A lot of wood and well-placed brewing equipment in a huge space with plenty of seating for everyone.

Quality is good. The beer came out with a good amount of head in room temperature glasses. The glassware wasn't the most accurate in the world but nothing was way out of line.

Service was good. Our server never made us wait to long and promptly answered questions pertaining to beer (albeit he had to check on a few).

Selection was solid. I remember five or six year rounds, including a light lager, a porter, and an APA along with five more seasonals, including an oak-aged brown, an ESB, and a few more I can't remember. A solid selection for a brewpub and the barrels in the brewing area made it evident they're planning on keeping it up.

Value was a bit on the expensive side. Although this may just be me, but I expect beers in a brewpub to be at least a little cheaper as it's brewed on premise and that wasn't the case here. Still, it was far from being overly expensive.

Overall this was a solid place that I would frequent if I lived in the area. A solid selection that looks to rotate semi-frequently. Worth a stop.

I want to like this place more than I do. It cannot decide if it is a restaurant or a brewery. The place is huge, 2 bars, lots of tables, outdoor seating on the sidewalk. Menu is pages long, portions are big, but not overly original nor impressive. I think it is focusing on the general public more than the beer crowd. Lots of 20-somethings - in West Chester. Beer is actually OK,. there are some standard beers always on, the Pig Iron Porter is good. Some special beers rotate in and out some really good, like the bourbon vanilla porter, some quite pedestrian. Service is generic, not always knowledgeable but friendly. They have a ful bar, and wine, which always surprises me in a brew-on-premise establishment.

Went here due to the drafting room being closed, and Cappones, and every other beer bar in the Philly area.

The bar was really nice and open. They had a tons of beer available with a diverse line up including 2 lagers, a porter, a pale ale, a dubbel, bourbon tripel, raspberry wheat, and an ESB. The porter and pale ale and the seasonals were great. The light lager was modeled after coors light which I thought was awesome. The service was excellent and quick. The prices were a really good with a sampler at $5 with pints for $3. We got a plate o fries with some different dipping sauces that were excellent. Really great place I would recommend if you are in town.

The closest Iron Hill to us and, overall, our favorite.

Atmosphere is good with a large rectangular bar and plenty of dining space.

Beer selection and quality is generally good. The standard beers are pretty solid, with the Pig Iron Porter and Ironbound Ale aways safe choices. This IH has begun specializing in Belgian style beers and they make them well. Other seasonals are hit and miss.

Food is really excellent for a brewpub, with great sandwiches, pizzas and entrees, along with a great app lineup.

Prices are crazy high for a brewpub so, even with the high quality, we don't go here as often as we might.

This Iron Hill is located in the heart of historic downtown West Chester. It's situated on the corner of (no joke) Gay and High Street. It's across the street from Starbucks and next to a salad shop. I haven't been to all of the Iron Hill's, but this one looks the same as the one in Media, PA. That means it has wood paneling, wood floors, a big rectangular wooden bar, the brewery by the bar behind glass, wood tables, and an open kitchen. This Iron Hill is huge! When I went to the restroom, it seemed like I had to walk a mile just to get there. This place is so big that there's another bar in the back across from the restrooms. It's much smaller than the one in the front, but it's still a bar. There should be no shortage of tables here. If you have to wait for a table, that means there are no servers or there are more than 1,000 people there. Street parking for this place is alomst non-existant. There are however plenty of parking garages near by. These garages are free on the weekend.

It was almost the same menu they had at the Media Iron Hill. I didn't go through line by line, but it looked the same. They have all of your usual family restaurant food. The menu contains appetizers, salads, pasta, burgers, brick oven pizza, and entrees, Everthing was average priced. The pizza was in the $10 range, pasta in the $12 range, entrees in the $15 range, and everything else in the $9 range. At this Iron Hill, I opted for the Memphis Style BBQ pulled pork sandwich. That sandwich came with cole slaw, spear pickle, and fries. The cole slaw was OK, the fries were good, and the sandwich was pretty good. I didn't taste much BBQ on it. For some reason, they served the sandwich with red vinegar. I tried the sandwich the the vinegar and it didn't complement it at all. I should have said "hold the red vinegar and add more BBQ sauce." If you do order the pulled pork, get it without the red vinegar.

I didn't have any problems with the service. I sometime had a hard time flagging down the bartender for another drink, but another bartender came in and I got my drink. When it came to the food, I got that right away. When I ordered it, I took out my West Chester map and as soon as I turned around, my food was already there. It probably took about 5 to 8 minutes for my food to come out.

When I was here, the beer selection was very limited. Oh they had 10+ taps, 1 nitro, 1 cask, but the beer variety was lacking. All they had were Weizens, light Ales, and only one interesting beer. That interesting beer was called "Cannibal." It was a Belgian Strong Ale flavored with tropical fruits. I had and it wasn't all that bad. It was a good beer with out the tropical fruits, but sometimes you need to test out new beers.

If you like visiting the Iron Hill chains, then this one shouldn't disapoint. I enjoyed my time here. It was just to bad that their beer selection was in a lull. Would I go out of my way to visit this brewpub? Not too far out of the way, but this Iron Hill and the city of West Chester would make a nice place to visit.

Another microbrewery I had the two opportunities to hang out in all day long while the GF visited local residents involved in the Fresh Air Fund.

Bar is front and prominent as soon as you walk in with the tanks to the right and nice window tables to view the quaint main drag. Vast dining area in the back and nice pool areas nestled even farther back. I changed my opinion of chain microbreweries mighty fast when I saw the extensive selection and always rotating seasonals (Dry stoudt beyond creamy and yummy) and the Pig Iron Porter were my favorites. Vienna Lager and the Dubbel make this a beer class if you have the time. Was surprised there was no stoudt, but that was just about the only category not covered. Pricey menu to some extent but fancy pub grub in generous portions. Staff "tends stick" well and knows their product and is quick on the sample draw. Cool indy record/cd store down the block.

A great location right on the corner of the main drag, High St, in the middle of downtown West Chester. Very nice exterior is followed up by a lovely interior that screams WOOD! The bar area is a very smartly designed U shape that has a nicely positioned big screen TV at the open end of the U. Plenty of casual tables with an adjacent formal dining area plus a back bar area. The other added plus, the entire place is NO SMOKING! I even got to see this enforced.

Everything was very good from the beer to the food. The air about the place was very comfortable.

My service was wonderful. The bartender was very attentive without being annoying and the food service was lightning quick. A plus...the btender poured my nitro porter and gave it to it settled he noticed that the pour was a bit low...he took it back and topped it off properly without me saying a word....nice!

They carry a ususal selection of 6 standards of which I had none of since we are getting an IH close by shortly, in Lancaster. I had two of their seasonals, a Pumpkin Ale and Cherry Vanilla Porter on nitro. Both beer were very good with the CVP being outstanding.

Food wise I had a very pleasant 4 way Cincinnatti Chili. Plenty of spice and only complaint....could have used a bit more pasta.

Value for the area...Philly burbs....was right on par. My good sized bowl of chili and a nice bread was like $5.99. Beers were like $4 or so....nothing outrageous. Hey, it's metro Philly, I am not expecting $2 pints or anything!

Overall a very nice facility that I would visit again without hesitation. I hope that the Lancaster location will be this nice.

Let's just say seasonals. I've been going there since they opened and I have found that their best beers are the ones they brew the least. However, that gives me something to look forward to. I never have a hard time finding something to eat there either. They usually offer a two course beer dinner menu, in addition to weekly specials. If that doesn't suit you they do have a pretty decent meatloaf. Yes, I said meatloaf. The wait staff knows their brews. I'm always impressed when they tell me this beer was made with these hops and this malt and so on. I'm not a big fan of chain brewpubs, but Iron Hill of W.C. definitely holds it's own.

went there as a party of 4 based on the desire for a decent restaurant and of course beer. The exterior and interior are nice, clean and inviting. the brewhouse is visible prominently as you enter but then really not visible while dining. the beer selection is a short list of all very light, low abv beers. Nice but average. The food was good and all in the party enjoyed their dinners. Seemed a bit pricey but that may be my NH standards vs. the local scale. Worth a try but don't expect a broad range of beers. An Imp IPA, Imp APA or any belgian would've gone a long way for me on the selection score. As it was I thought it overlapped too much.

I stopped while in the Philly area, went for lunch on a Sunday. Wow what a brunch menu (for a brewpub nice change). I really enjoyed the Raspberry wheat with a butternut squash soup. Also had the basic lager which was nice also. I can see how it would get crowded at times seems like a hip place for the locals. I tried the Phoenixville location the night before and was not able to get in so that's why I hit the Westchester location the next day. I would recommend it for others in the area or passing thru as I was, try at an off time tho. The service was good, sat at the bar and had great conversations with locals from the area.

What a hassle getting to this place! I won’t bore you with too many specifics, but we encountered some heavy traffic on the PA Turnpike due to the pouring rain and windy conditions. When we finally arrived in West Chester, we found that three of the main streets were closed due to a Christmas parade (on December 1). A parade on a Friday night? Yup, that’s what I thought too! It literally took us an extra hour to get to Iron Hill due to the traffic and weather.

My wife and I sat at the bar. The place was completely packed, and we were told that there was an hour wait for a table. I watched the bar like a hawk, and we grabbed two spots within two or three minutes. This brewpub boasts a British pub style décor with a nice horseshoe-shaped bar. The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly, but a little forgetful. Had to remind him about drinks twice, but it was extremely busy, so I’ll let it slide. He also gave us free samples of some of the beer we were unsure about, so that was cool.

My first selection was Iron Hill’s seasonal Hopilicious Holiday APA, which was on draught and served in a 16oz. pint glass. It was a nice, hazy orange/rust colored hue with a creamy white head that mostly diminished halfway through. The aroma was fantastic, with a moderate malty aroma combined with nice hoppy notes of grapefruit, perfume and spices. It went well with our cheese plate appetizer. My wife had the Raspberry Wheat, which was excellent as well. It had a nice, light fruity aroma and finish.

As for the food, the cheese plate was fantastic, and included three kinds of cheese, toasted bread wafers, roasted almonds, honey, and a cranberry marmalade spread that was incredibly tasty. Well worth the $12.50, in my opinion. For dinner, I got the hummus, which was also excellent. It included a generous portion of hummus with roasted red pepper garnish, and was served with Calamata olives, cucumbers, diced tomatoes, feta cheese and pita bread. My wife chose their sarsaparilla pizza, which included chicken, bacon, sweet onions, and a tangy root beer flavored barbecue sauce. Both selections were served with good portions and were above average in both taste and value for money.

For our second beer selections, I decided to go with another 16-oz. draught, this time the Ironbound Ale. This very tasty, lightly hopped pale ale was definitely more quaffable than the Hopilicious, and was extremely fresh. While it had only a faint hop aroma, it did have a good balance of malt and hop flavors. The head quickly vanished, but was replaced with beautiful lacing around the glass. My wife went with the Pig Iron Porter, which was a heavy, robust porter with a smoky flavor and finish.

Overall, it was too busy for me to really enjoy and savor the atmosphere. I’d also like to note that the restrooms were very clean and spacious, which was nice. The beer was quite good and the food was fantastic, so I would definitely like to return during a time when they are not quite as busy.

A visit to purchase some bottles from their reserve list.

Atmosphere: The restaurant looks like it iis an old converted five-and-dime. The interior is wood-lined, with a wide open bar area up front, a smaller bar in back and spacious dining in between.

Quality: Service, food and selection were all excellent, good quality. Iron Hill has nailed the brewpub concept, serving excellent food and beer.

Service: Service was friendly and attentive, rushing the much needed chocolate milk for my 2 year old. Refills on non-beer were prompt and the beer orders were quickly returned from the bar. She also coordinated my large purchase, which was nice.

Selection: Too many offerings to count. There were the regular beers, seasonals, nitro- and cask- beers, bottled reserve offerings. I went with a Hopilicious, a Bourbon Porter and the Wee Heavy. I took home a growler of Hopilicious, 2 Russian Imperial Stouts, Dubbel, Tripel, Old Ale 2005 and English Strong Ale, all in 750 mL C&C bottles. Very nice indeed.

Food: Appetizer and main course were served hot and very good. It is evident that a great deal of time was put into the menu, kudos for that.

Prices are reasonable and, as always, you get what you pay for beerwise. You want the Impy? It's a bit more than the pint of lager.

I have visited the IH West Chester location on several occasions but this was the first time we went for a full dinner. First and foremost, their beers are very good. Fresh and tastey and they offer several different beers that are updated frequently. When we last visited they had the heffe on tap which is very good but they were freshly out of the Belgian wit which was disappointing but it shows they run through beer quickly. The food menu is extensive and good. We had a catfish finger appetizer with a great remolade. They had a 2 course beer dinner that included a gazpacio soup and a southwestern steak which was very good. Along with 2 beers, it was only $19.95. I would say overall this is the best IH location because of the great location in West Chester.

This is a great place I will definitely venture back to again. I love the area. This is the second time I was here. The first though I was on business and didn't drink. I just went in to ask if they had a Rauchbeir on-tap. It was mid afternoon on a Thursday and the place was hoppin! West Chester is a cool laid back atmosphere to begin with. The outdoor dinning tables on the patio is my favorite feature. The first day I was there it was 75 degrees and the patio was full of preppy college kids in sandals and polo’s. A casual dining 'family friendly' place. The beer is far above average. This time I had the Bourbon Porter and the Rauchbeir in a bottle and I was blown away. Prices for bombers and growlers are pretty steep but it is damn good beer so ... I would say it is worth it. The food, oh the food wow! I know the focus here is beer but OMG the pulled pork sandwich was FANTASTIC! It was heavily smoked pork and next to the Rauchbeir I was drinking ... I couldn’t have been happier.
This place is so easy to get to as well. Simply go to the Exton exit and head south till you get there. I don't know why I haven't been here before, but I will *certainly* be back soon and regularly. The 45 minute drive is easily merited and even those of you further away, I don't think you'll be disappointed if you make a journey to get to Iron Hill Brewery in West Chester.

Visited at noon on a Saturday with my wife. We were promptly seated, since the place was almost empty. Our waitress soon arrived and gave a description of the four seasonal beers on tap. I ordered a sampler of the six house beers and the four seasonals. When the arrived, the waitress proceeded to give a description of each of the house beers. She also took our food order. The food was brought out in a reasonable time frame, and was served at the proper temperature. The portions were large and we ended up taking half of our sandwiches home with us. The food was delicious. One nice thing about their beers is that most of them are of low or moderate alcohol content, yet still flavorful, so that a 10 beer sampler at noon on a Saturday was not too much. Excellent meal, great atmosphere. High recommendations.

During the pilgrimage to Eastern PA for Victory's tenth anniversary and a brewfest in West Philly we stayed in the Holiday Inn in West Chester. Not going to review the hotel...okay 2 out 5 starr...anyway the main reason to hit up West Chester on a weekend besides the hot college girls from the local West Chester University would be the great Iron Hill locale nestled on the corner of High and Gay Streets. After the sampler and an additional glass of the 1K Golden Barleywine I was indeed a bit "gay". Easy to find especially if your arleady in town we didn't have any problem on Friday night finding parking but that Sunday afternoon damn we must have circled the block like three times before finding a spot a block down the road. Atmosphere is pretty trendy alot of metal glass somewhat industrial fine dining esque that's my judgement as a whole, but the bar is big rectangular and seats a large amount of folks. Service was great was near closing after stopping in late after checkin on Friday night bartender still let me get a sampler since he realized my night was just getting started, this was followed by a pretty in depth description of each beer very nice doesn't happen at every brewpub. Selection was nice 10 overall nine different Pig Iron was on Cask and draft two seasonals were a tasty Weizenbock and a very tasty untraditional barleywine that I already mentioned. No food that night we came back on Sunday and realized we were all running low on cash after the long weekend of imbibing so we never had a chance to eat here.

Easy to locate in West Chester along the busy main street with numerous restaurants and shops. We parked in the parking garage about a block away for easy in and out. Stopped in on a crowded Saturday fall afternoon, and was lucky to get the last two seats at the front bar.

Dark wood, hip interior, and an upscale crowd worries me at first. But seeing that everyone was drinking beers and having some nice looking food settled me down. There is a large amount of tables in this place, and a second bar that was not opened is in the back by the restrooms. Open view into the kitchen is also quite cool.

Eight beers on tap, including a porter, raspberry wheat, lite, english style pale ale, west coast style pale ale, schwarzbier, and an oktoberfest. A nice variety to select from. The three different pints I had were all of very good quality and great tasting. Growlers available to take some of these fine offerings home.

Food was also very good as the appetizers we sampled were very tasty and well presented.

This is a place you should try to make an effort to visit if you are in eastern Pennsy. One of the better brewpubs you'll ever visit.

Arrived at Iron Hill on a Thursday evening just as it was cramping up with bar hopping people for this West Chester nightlife central location. Loud Hip-Hop DJ and throngs of apple-tini drinking cuties made this a great place for the views, but otherwise oppressive for trying the beers. They had a Cask Porter on tap but the bar tender could hardly be bothered with pumping one out. In this time-slot, the Irish bar across the street was a far better alternative for a Murphy's and a live band. I don't doubt the atmosphere and service would be better other times, but the rating reflects when I was there.

A very nice brewpub in busy downtown West Chester. It has some okay regular offerings, but the rotating taps are usually very good. Some of my favorites have been the ESB on cask and the oatmeal stout, though other seasonals are definitely worth a try. The food is not the normal pub grub, it has a bit of a flare to it. One of the last times I was here I got a warm chocolate cake with peanut butter sauce inside. It went great with the oatmeal stout. I haven't visited any of the other locations (though there will soon be one much closer to me), but I imagine that they are like this and that is the reason for the success. It is done right with great service, good beer, and good food at a decent price.
