22 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, deep, dark, almost opaque mahogany color, speckled with orange highlights and a quarter of a finger of white-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a thick halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass.

Aroma: Very aromatic, with lots of bready, toasted malt, along with lots of brown sugar, toffee, dark molasses, dried stone fruit such as sour cherries, prunes, dates and raisins and spices of clove, all-spice and vanilla.

Taste: Interesting, delicious, flavors of bready, toasted malt and fruity, sour cherries up front, followed by some brown sugar-like sweetness. I also get some spices of clove, all-spice, cinnamon and a hint of ginger.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and smooth as there is very little in the way of carbonation. With an ABV of 8.5%, there is just a slight hint of a pleasant alcohol warmth on the palate.

Overall: This is a delicious barleywine, with lots of delicious, malty, fruity, sweet flavors all in harmonious balance. Highly recommended!

Burnt orange/dark copper colored and slightly opaque with a big head of dimpled dark brownish orange foam that rises up high and settles down to a low head of dimpled suds. Aroma of honey, brandy, and cherry.

Rich and pungent flavor of brandy, overripe stone fruit, cherry, raisin and definite alcohol notes. Flavor doesn't develop much, but takes on a medicinal note as the glass progresses. Somewhat limited in dimension, and the medicinal note detracts. I actually thought it was spoiled until I read a few other reviews.

Clear red amber with an ample head in the Affligem chalice. Lots of lacing along the glass. Big aroma of sweet flowers and spice cake. Plenty of carbonation in the mouth.

Flavor is on the sweet side, like fruit cake. Tangy and a little hot like a liqueur. The mouthfeel is approaching the unctuous. Flavor is actually quite intriguing. Big caramel taste with English toffee. Candied pineapple and a touch of raisins. I don't think hops are allowed here. Finishes with some Old Ale fruity funky flavors.

Definitely a dessert beverage, but smooth and intriguing. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle.
