Notes / Commercial Description:
Dream Machine, an India Pale Lager or IPL, is a melding of varied visions of an India Pale Ale and an Amber Lager. Once poured, its light copper color delights the eyes and a citrusy hop aroma flows through the nose. Upon first sip, a smooth hop bitterness reveals itself – fresh, bold and slightly spicy – before subtle hints of mild maltiness appear. A big hop bite and a crisp, clean lager finish combine for a beautifully balanced beer. Take Dream Machine for a spin and let your reverie begin.

Pours a clear honey orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, earth, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with earth and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an average beer that smells pretty good, but there is an odd metallic taste at first that only goes away as the beer warms up.

I picked this up at Wegmans in a mix-a-six poured chilled into a stemmed glass, shared with tenderbranson69.

The color is a crystal clear golden with visible carbonation and amber hues with a quick dropping white head with fine bead. The smell has a noble type hop aroma with a light floral/herbal smell which brings to mind pear with a slight yeast fruity ester. The feel is good with clean crisp texture with moderate carbonation and light body with generally dry finish.

The flavor is not what I expect from a beer that promotes itself as an India Pale Lager...it has the lager characteristics with smooth flavor but bitterness level is medium, a little like a highly hopped pilsner with toasted malt taste and noble accent as it finishes very clean. Overall it is a decent lager, but doesn't fit the India Pale lager label in my opinion, drinkable for what it is

LOOK: Pours a bright orange color with a white soapy head that has good retention. Carbonation rises vigorously to the surface. Clarity is good.

SMELL: Bready malts and lager yeast working well with pungent hops coming off like cat pee and herbs. A bit of onion and pine round out the nose.

TASTE: In the taste, some pine sap, herb and citrus meet the bready malt character and add a coarse bitterness. Spicy, herbal, suggestions of pepper and ginger in with the biscuity malts. P

FEEL: Light to medium bodied, crisp hop bite, cleaner finish.

OVERALL: This is a pretty refreshing beer from Magic Hat. Essentially a hopped up Vienna Lager, and not a bad option.

Yes...it's actually pretty good.NO or is not amazing bit it has a nice bit to it on my palate and it has a drinkable factor to it because it is a lager. Is it my favorite beer? No. Is it am awesome version of a lager? Yes. I would definitely give this brew a shot before you judge. It has the awesome aroma of an IPA, along with the hoppy bite, however it's got the clean finish like a lager. Just drink one and decide. That is all...

Brown Copper Rusty color, medium to full clear body
There is a deep malty sweetness but not really that much in the smell...bready sweetness as it warms/sloshed
Same characteristics in the taste, has a light taste with only a small residual bitterness...not really what I'm going for in a red ale
This beer was decent but not what I was looking for in a IPL (as its advertised) not a bad red ale but could stand to be more robust. If you love Magic Hat its worth a try....I don't really love MH and probably won't buy it again

Poured out a clear, amber color with a one-finger, tan head of foam. It smelled malty and somewhat sweet. It was malty and sweet with a nice caramel flavor. It was crisp, sharp and smooth

A- A seems to be average in upstate ny. Looks much like a copper-penny, with some more watery notes. Pours with a nice head into an imperial pint, but then dissipates quickly with little to no lacing. Think half dead Yeungling, or slightly lighter BearNaked.

S- It smells sweet and spicy, just the way I want it. However, I feel that with the label IPL it should boast more than 50 ibu's. I mean, I litterally have to bury my face into it for any inkling of hops.

T-buttery, with the right balance of spice. Wait, is that dry-hopped peach cobler? Hahah. There's so much going on here that it's hard to make out, but not in a bad way. It certainly harnesses the #9 madness that Magic Hat drinkers have grown to love.

M- average, if that. It feels almost slimy when you really let it sit there . At the same time, the beer has drinkabillity... there's no need to let it "swim". Really, I just want Edward Marrie Cullen to drop in and say "sparkles"... I am disappoint. -_-.

O- not a terrible beer, but I've had hoppier lagers that didn't boast the ipl label.

Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: A medium orange gold that is hazy with thin white head that quickly dissipates.

Smell: Not a very strong smell. Citrus and hops.

Taste: An interesting taste as it is a mix between IPA and lager. The hoppy taste is not overpowering as the malt adds flavor. A nice blend. Citrus is apparent as well.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation that lights up the mouth. Medium body.

Overall: A nice blend between the two. At first it is almost taste like an IPA, but then the malt kicks in. I would have it again.

On tap at lumberyard in georgetown ct. Cloudy amber bronze with white head in pint. Malty bready aroma with a touch of hops...pretty mild. Taste is malty and bitter...bit alt like. Its got a classic magic hat flavor. ..just a bit over malted. Not much hop presence but what hops are there are pez candy like. Easy and sessionable. .
overall...decent but I probably won't get it again.

Enjoyed from the 12 oz can in a snifter. This decent lager pours a bright amber with a moderate head of white foam that dissipates to a thin ring and subtle lacing. Nose of light citrus fruit, herbal hop notes, and lager grains and yeast. Flavors follow the nose with honey and citrus notes on the front and sides, a bittering herbal hops note to the middle and rear, and a grain flavor on the back and aftertaste. Medium bitter aftertaste, medium mouth feel. Nothing overly oppressive. Good session brew.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Copper body with rising bubbles. A cream colored head recedes to a thick film, good retention. Foamy lacing stays on the glass for a while.

Aroma: Bitter hops, pine, a touch of citrus.

Taste: This beer is extremely bitter. There's a trace amount of malt just before the finish.

Mouthfeel: Slightly sticky, medium bodied.

Overall: This one should please the bitter hop lovers.

This beer is ok.....it doesn't stack up to the Magic Hat. The beer is lighter in body with good carbonation. The color is a hazy orangeish yellow with a creamy white head that is leaving a lace. The taste is more bitter than anything. Glad to have tried it but wouldn't go back to the well for this one.

I like Dream Machine, but I don't love it. It's bitter enough to want to cook with rather than drink, and as a beer for cooking, it's quite good. I've used it in the crock pot with chicken a half dozen times and it really adds something to it.

Big pile of foam in the Peroni Lager glass. Amber color. Very studly in appearance. Flowery aroma.

Rather bitter and herbal. This seems to go down pretty easily, but I think it would compare unfavorably with the the IPLs I've had from Golden Road, Garage Brewing, and Pyramid. Unpleasant aftertaste of over-steeped green tea.

I don't think Magic Hat is going to win any new friends with this. I'm still waiting for a beer I like from them, which is unfortunate since they seem to be filling the bottom cooler shelves here in San Diego as well as in Washington. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Liticker's Liquor in San Diego.

Dark honey, and somewhat cloudy, with a quarter inch quickly dissipating head, but good lacing. A fresh scent, but nothing of note on the nose. Nice carbonation, and drinkable. A nice hop bitterness that lingers, but lacks the fruitiness of the IPAs I prefer. A decent beer.

Taking the pieces and parts of lager and rearranging their proportions to more resemble India pale ale gives Dream Machine a unique flavor, feel and set of aromas that lead with hops and trail with pilsner malt.

As the lager pours golden-straw, its head builds to greet the rim of the glass, much like any well-sculpted lager would. But one whiff brings out a sharp spiciness laced with verbena herb, pepper and fragrant grass. Its initial taste is cracker-dry and quick with light bread and grain sweetness.

As the bready and sweet malt trails across the middle, it paves the way for noble German hops- Its floral taste gives slim honeysuckle and fresh-pulled tobacco with fruit that develops into a grassy overlay. Fresh-cut grass, sassafras and a stemmy, peppery bite moves in to round out the bulk of taste.

Its quick finish keeps the body medium-light but lingers with the gripping and undeniable leafy astringency of the hop cone. Its chlorophyll linger onward along with bitter resins and waining tobacco herb.

This beer is quite amber hued. Which is a nice lead that turns into a pretty bland ride. Minimal hop influence. Minimal everything really. It's just...bland. Too bad my next beer isn't chilled yet. Otherwise I'd be finishing this one as quickly as possible and moving on.

Magic Hat Dream Machine IPL has a thin-to-medium off-white head, a mostly clear, copper, bubbly appearance, and some decent lacing left behind. The aroma is of hop oil and sweet grain. Taste is of floral hops, some hop resin, sweet grain, and medium-baked bread crust. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Magic Hat Dream Machine IPL finishes crisp, easy going, and refreshing.

Appearance - Pours a somewhat hazy amber orange with an of-white finger head. Dissipates rather quickly, leaving a broken layer of surface suds. Lacing is small and spotty with little stick.

Smell - Smells of grain and bready malts, with hints of caramel and citrus.

Taste - Mostly malt character with notes of caramel and touches of grain. Hops are tame considering the style, but come through with some citrus flavor. Slight pith and stale bread in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with fair to lively carbonation. Goes down easy enough.

Overall - If I deciphered the code right, this was bottled on March 18th, so probably not too old to kill the hops, this is just a very average IPL that shows more malt than hop. It will be quickly forgotten.

Pours a slightly hazy sunburst orange color with a frothy white head that leaves chunks of lacing.

Smells of grainy malt and grassy hops.

Tastes of the grainy malts with a moderate hop touch. Grainy malts lead off with a bit of sweetness. Grassy and lemony hops come in next with a moderate amount of bitterness. A touch of butter comes on the end. An overall light feel, but doesn't feel coherent.

Mouthfeel is light with a crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a solid pilsner, but the flavor profile feels funny.

First time trying this style, so let's give it a whirl. Popping the top this IPL smells earthy hoppy and fresh. Pours to a light orange with a minimal head that stands well. On the taste this brew is definitely more than a lager but stays with the style as the bitterness is not real pronounced but rides in the background. Good solid mouthfeel, nice thick consistency. Taste is consistent throughout with a bitter twang in the finish that is quite bitter. Not sure about this style, I think I prefer either a Lager or an IPA instead.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Amber color with a thicker white head that lingered. Lots of carbonation. Medium lacing on the glass.

Smell: Hops and citrus, maybe some pine notes in the background.

Mouthfeel/Taste: A little rought medium bodied. Taste of bitter hops with a subtle sweet citrus on the after taste.

Overall: Not bad. I would have this one again.

This dissapointing ale pours a handsome amber hue with a nice white head and lasting lacing. The nose is an overly sweet floral mix of hops, malt , and European yeast. The mouth is smooth and easy to drink but given the taste why would you want to. The flavor follows the nose with way too much sweetness and a floral hop bill that does not help the sweetness. I enjoyed the last few Magic Hat releases but this is definitely a miss.

Dream Machine brewed by the Magic Hat Brewing Company, with an ABV of 5.7 % This brew pours out a nice dark amber color with a small, white head. Dream Machine is a filtered brew you can see right though it. The appearance is decent to this brew. The smell is bitter with hops and grains. There is some richness to this brew in this smell. Not too big on the smell of this brew. Dream Machine taste is ok with a bitter after taste of hops. The taste at first is smooth but it is over powered by bitterness. The bitterness to this brew is to much for my taste. Mouthfeel is nice at first but, bitter at the end. Not a bad finish to this brew. Overall In'm giving this brew a 3 out 5.

Tried one of these from a 12 oz bottle the other day.

In the glass, it's a dark amber, with lots of visible effervescence, and minimal head.

The nose was very faint, offering little more than some soft piney hops, so I didn't know what to expect. The taste wasn't too strong, following through on the pine, and offering a soft, citrusy finish, kind of like marmalade.

Carbonation and mouthfeel were both what I'd call medium--pleasant, but not overbearing.

Overall, i enjoyed it, though it's not necessarily something I'd pick up again. It's well-balanced, but doesn't really offer much I'd seek out--drinkable and enjoyable, in an interesting style, but not something I'll be keeping an eye out for.
